Anyone ever put a leather jacket in the washing machine???

Ive bought a beautiful leather jacket on ebay but it stinks to high heaven. Its musty and filthy both inside on the lining and the leather its self.
Have any of you ever dared to put a leather jacket in the wash? The thought of wearing this even after a good damp sponge wipe down and airing is repulsive still.
It was a bargain so if it might be sucessful I might consider the risk.
Specialist cleaning seems to be more than double the price I paid for it therefore not really an option.

@gubbsywubbsy really? actually put in machine or hand wash areas eg the bottom. the hem of mine got very dirty and dry cleaning didn't work. It has no dirt or smell anywhere else so i have considered handwashing the hem with fairy liquid.....

I'm an ex dry cleaner and we more often than not machine washed them in an industrial sized machine . They always came up sparkly and clean .. most wedding dresses can be washed. If you have one I'm happy to advise if you want to pm

Can confirm I’ve washed a beaded communion dress ( so similar to a wedding dress) & came out great!

Wow, that link recommends putting them in the tumble dryer as well! Would you do that, gubby or its air dryer safer? My machine doesn't have a 6 min cycle either for washing - the shortest is the handwash cycle at 40 minutes.

Noooo dryer .. polyester comes out pretty much dry after the spin so no need to tumble . Drop dry away from sunlight .. make sure the dresses are polyester though and I only ever washed them in large washing machines.. a small one with a big dress could cause problems and it won't get clean .. always turn inside out though so beads are protected by the dress from the drum .

If you look at a lot of wedding dresses they actually say to hand wash and not dry clean .. it's so much safer to wash because a lot of the time thr beads are added after and are not solvent safe so will melt .
