Will Kate emerge from her Norfolk seclusion sporting a bigger than ever Alice band? Will the Mail and Express stories about Meghan get more ludicrous by the day? And will this thread see the arrival of Baby Sussex? All will be revealed in due course...

The only cake character who vaguely resembles the real person is Harry. Diana and William are I recognisable and they've been given Osmond teeth!

I think its auite common to employ bilingual au pairs/nannies amongst anyone that does. It would be unusal nowadays to have a strict posh English speaking one. Especially when you look at London. —cant you tell Im doing babysitting for such families on the side— its mind blowing the amount of staff some families have.

Onprozacandmyhighhorse · 18/04/2019 17:52

If W & K took the children on a visit to New Zealand they'd probably be accused of leaving the country to avoid the new baby's arrival. We'd be getting all sorts of stupid accusations of jealousy and bad feeling.

SlipperOrchid · 18/04/2019 17:54

onprozac I agree. The Daily Fail would be delirious!

MotherofPearl · 18/04/2019 18:16

Speaking of the delirious Daily Fail, some of you might enjoy this brilliant article from the incomparable Marina Hyde:

I thought Phillip had given up driving after his accident?

Agree with all the comments about Eugenie's neckline, but I did rather like her hat. She likes those pillbox style ones doesn't she? I wish we'd seen the Queen's skirt / dress, it looked lovely.

SlipperOrchid · 18/04/2019 18:33

I think Philip said he would only drive in his own land?

I like the pillbox hats, they have a retro vibe and Eugenie seems to rock the retro vibe without ever trying too hard. Her features, hair and curves add to it.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 18/04/2019 18:37

It's lovely to see Eugenie with HMQ on an official engagement.
We've said on this thread that Eugenie should be asked to do more official stuff.
I like Eugenie as she's so smiley & it lights up her whole face & that reminds me of Max.

I think it was a conscious decision by NZ to only request William to attend the memorial service. The presence of Kate and the kids would make it into a big production all about them, and what they are wearing (especially as Charlotte hasn't been there before, and Louis hasn't been on a tour at all) rather than the focus being the memorial and those who were killed.

I also think it would be daft to attempt to take three small children to the other side of the world for two days and expect them to behave impeccably at a solemn public event - no matter what kind of luxury you are travelling in, that is not going to be a fun trip with kids.

This is a good piece from The Independent https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/serena-williams-meghan-markle-beyonce-black-women-birth-healthcare-a8868571.html

The Cambridge children will have great fun if they are all fluent in Spanish and their parents aren't! Heaven help K&W when the Nanny is off duty.

This apparently happened to Madonna after she sent Lourdes to the South Kensington lycee. Lourdes would be chatting away to her friends in fluent French but Madonna had no idea what they were saying! Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/04/2019 21:46

William on that cake looks like a freshly botoxed Tom Cruise!

Lovely to see Eugenie with HM.
It’s a shame that over the years she didn’t have more engagements with family members.

I think there is definitely a Princess / duchess uniform the young royal women adhere to in the presence of HM; high neck, hat, tights.
I wonder whether they will loosen up a bit more when HM passes.

I think William looks very handsome in this photo.

That's the best photo I've seen in William for years!

Agree Eugenie is a Max-in-the-making! Quite like her style :)

I have a hunch the baby has arrived. Of course I don’t actually know this Grin My hunch stems only from following Cressida Bonas on Istagram for some time, and noticing that she often seems to post personal photos when Harry is in the spotlight. She has posted today and I am probably way off but maybe not 😀

SenecaFalls · 19/04/2019 00:18

That Marina Hyde article is brilliant. My favorite line : "the hospital-steps photocall is infinitely less established than deeper royal traditions, such as attempting to acquire France or killing one’s relatives."

And also "spokesprick." Smile

Pannalash · 19/04/2019 00:43

I think Prince Phillip is bloody amazing for 97. How many 97 year olds do you see carriage driving Smile

SenecaFalls · 19/04/2019 01:14

And Philip is less than 2 months away from being 98.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 19/04/2019 01:37

I agree re Princess Eugenie should do more engagements and Princess Beatrice as well, I think they get a a bad rap, they both seem pleasant young women and apart from some fashion misses have not caused the monarchy any embarrassment whatsoever, and even the fashion disasters have been taken with good grace (Pretzel hat auctioned off for charity I think?) I know Charles wants to slim down the monarchy but I often wonder if that is to spite Andrew more than actually wanting to slim it down, yes we don’t want a load of distant relatives using tax payers money, but I do think grandchildren of the monarch could have a more public role if that is what they would like to do, I think it’s a shame B and E have been denied this opportunity by Charles putting a block on it.

SenecaFalls · 19/04/2019 01:43

I agree that I would like to see both of the York women out and about on the Royal duties more but the first outward signs of slimming down the monarchy actually began with the decision not to give royal titles to Edward and Sophie's children. It was presented as their decision, but I think it came originally from the Queen likely in consultation with Charles. So I really think it is a broader policy decision.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/04/2019 01:53

That photo of Prince William that Curly posted, he looks so much like Diana from the nose upwards, below the nose a Stuart/Hanover mix (from looking at portraits of Jameses V & VI of Scotland & the Georges if England)

brizzlemint · 19/04/2019 02:01

It's a good photo, I'd love to know what he was thinking.
