Can anyone talk me out if buying this dress?

I love it, but I don't need it and shouldn't really be spending over £100 on a new dress, even if it is a total bargain!

Anyone want to talk me out of it??

It's a nightie.

WifOfBif · 07/04/2019 10:31

It’s awful.

Unflattering length and horrible fabric. Save your money.

Dvg · 07/04/2019 10:32

Hate it. Just unflattering and cheap looking and nothing much to look at, definitely Primark style

dontgobaconmyheart · 07/04/2019 10:33

I like it enough that I'd potentially buy it in Primark for £10 for a holiday (though black in the summer isn't great IMO-but neverfor £100, spaghetti straps on dresses realistically don't flatter many people or body shapes though and the cut of this is weird. The way they've done the hem gives it some maternity vibes. It's fine but nothing special IMO I wouldn't see it on someone else and think wow, or assume it were £100.

Backseatonthebus · 07/04/2019 10:34

Here's another New Look one that's similar.

NWQM · 07/04/2019 10:34

I would honestly be praising your amazing new dress from New Look if saw you in it.

Reviews would put me off too. Have you tried it on?

Petalflowers · 07/04/2019 10:37

Pretty, but so overpriced, and a slightly odd length. Ie. Pretending to be a maxi dress, but isn’t.

option1

option 2

Two similar, far cheaper (and nicer) options from M and S.

myidentitymycrisis · 07/04/2019 10:47

There is a reason it’s in the sale

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 07/04/2019 10:55

I also think unflattering and frumpy

dinkydolphin · 07/04/2019 10:56

The exact same dress is in primark right this second!!!! £12

PositiveDiscipline · 07/04/2019 10:59

It's very pretty but I don't understand why people wear black in the summer. I used to live on the equator and when I first got there I had a typical British summer wardrobe of summer dresses in black, navy and grey. 17 years later my summer wardrobe is now yellows, reds, whites and pale pink.

Ditch the black. Black is for winter. Embrace colour.

Pianobook · 07/04/2019 11:02

Nothing special. You could definitely get a cheaper version.

StarJumpsandaHalf · 07/04/2019 11:18

its also lacking attention to detail, look at where the skirt meets the dress, I know its not easy to line up with ruching, but seriously for a dress that costs £219, you would expect some effort

according to the reviews, the fit is a bit odd, and baggy around the armpits

its not worth that price, £25 maybe

Absolutely this, all of it. Lots of comments about the bagginess under the arms and you can see that from the shape of it. The lazy cutting to pattern would get to me too and the 'sparkle'

I think there's a lot of Oh it's Whistles and Oh there's £100 off, what a bargain, whereas if it was George at Asda £40 down to £20 it wouldn't be given a second glance.

ReturnofSaturn · 07/04/2019 11:25

It's boring.
And polyester so a massive rip off at that price.

lasttimeround · 07/04/2019 11:25

It looks cheap and its polyester.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 07/04/2019 11:31

Buy something made out of more natural materials.

Polyester turns into a micro-plastic.

The great coral reef is nearly dead due to micro-plastics from clothing.

I hate clothing that's killing our children's earth.

Justgivemesomepeace · 07/04/2019 11:31

I would never consider myself to be particularly fashionable but even i would feel a frump in that. But so many people are saying they like it so maybe im even more out of touch than i thought Confused.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/04/2019 11:42

See, to me the M&S ones and New Look ones aren't nearly as nice. Nothing to do with the label, it's the waist (as usual non-existent in M&S) and the length I like. Whether it's worth the extra cost while still polyester I doubt, but I definitely prefer the OPs dress.

Sunonthepatio · 07/04/2019 11:59

I bought a similar navy polka dot sleeveless dress on eBay for £2.20. Hobbs brands. It was floor length and therefore unpopular, so I cut a 30 cms off it and re-hemmed it. That would save a lot of money!

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 07/04/2019 12:03

I think the comments are understandable from the pictures but it really is lovely in person. But I take the comments that it doesn't look worth the money. I'm not too bothered about manmade fibres etc to be honest and I know the skirt part at least is a shape that really works for me.

Shelbybear · 07/04/2019 13:01

I agree with Luaa looks like something from new look or similar. I don't think it's nice either. I actually thought it was mickey mouse ears at first 😂

Eustasiavye · 07/04/2019 13:04

You can't wear a bra with it.

onecardshort · 07/04/2019 14:09

If your budget allows for it and you love it then go for it but saying that are you sure you are not paying over the odds because of the label and being swayed by the perceived saving?

Justkeeprollingalong · 07/04/2019 14:56

It's dry clean only, not practical for a summer dress, especially a polyester one that will probably make you sweat more.

MondeoFan · 07/04/2019 15:04

It doesn't look like a £200 dress looks like a cheap one from Tesco
