SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 01/04/2019 21:56

Omg quintella - I bought 2 and they were soooo small & nylony!! Yuck.

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 01/04/2019 21:59

This is a spectacular fuck up by BM's marketing department. I bet they were all crowding round their laptops waiting for us to swoon on over their ugly, dated, badly made 'perfect' dress relentlessly pressing refresh waiting for a positive comment.

SosigDog · 01/04/2019 21:59

Bon Marche is actually good for certain demographics. Their clothes go up to a size 26 which is pretty rare on the high street. They do good basics for people who care more about practicality than looking good. And they cater for the 65+ old lady market at a reasonable price point. But they would have to totally reinvent their image and probably alienate their existing core customers in order to attract women aged 30-40.

FlibbertyGiblets · 01/04/2019 22:00

I am not a bloke. Quite affronted at that.

Back in ye olden days we did this, cod used to hunt out a frock or two that would be great for shoving on after a day wrangling small ones or gardening or indeed loafing then trot to school looking less draggled.

I thought it would be fun doing this (school run days long behind me now) but no one wants to play. Boo!

Flibberty, don't get the dress. Those shoulder straps are going to drive you up the wall.

MoonStarsSun · 01/04/2019 22:05

Thin strapped dresses no good for school run though unless you like showing off your bra straps to the world or are brave enough to go braless in a thin strappy dress whilst juggling fractious children, sun hats, water bottles, bags and maybe wrestling a toddler or two.

A school run dress needs to be made of non-see-though fabric, have straps wide enough to hide bra straps, not be too short or too low-cut or too tight in the skirt for the inevitable bending down, and not be too giddy looking. It's an elusive creature...

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 01/04/2019 22:06

Why does one need to trot to school looking less draggled it’s collect & go?
Why does one need to look a certain way eg less bedraggled?whos that for
It’s peculiar to get dressed in a specific way for such a perfunctory task

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 01/04/2019 22:09

One time i swung by spontaneously for pick up,someone asked me if I was new

AuntieStella · 01/04/2019 22:09

I love seeing the correct MN usage of 'school run dress' and how long it takes for people to realise it's a specific jargon term (and nothing whatsoever to do with an actual school run).

It's come up early this year, but nice to see the re-appearance of the old hardy perennials!

FlibbertyGiblets · 01/04/2019 22:10

I suppose it was part of those awful years where one was a bit subsumed by WBD demands, preschool oddness, baby fug.

Anyway matters not. The big two are at Uni and the baby is in 6th form. Grin

So why is it called school run dress if it’s unrelated to school run
Op is referencing it as item to wear for school run, look less bedraggled

GlacindaTheTroll · 01/04/2019 22:11

"I’m astonished it’s an actual thing, consideration given to dress for school run"

Grin

Save your astonishment - it doesn't mean any such thing.

It's simply the best summer dresses that can just be thrown on (without need for extensive grooming or accessories to look right)

It's sod all to do with actually going to a school.

1frenchfoodie · 01/04/2019 22:12

Are you on drugs? No.

UterusUterusGhali · 01/04/2019 22:12

I had a couple of SRDs and I'm not particularly fashionable. It was a thing.

You've got to remember that athletiture (sp?) wasn't a thing then. Nobody would dream of wearing leggings outside the gym!

GlacindaTheTroll · 01/04/2019 22:13

"So why is it called school run dress if it’s unrelated to school run"

Old thread that became MN lore

(Suggest you don't try to make sense of it, just accept it)

Supersimpkin · 01/04/2019 22:13

I thought Bon Marche was a care home supplier?

On the upside, dress is so out of date it's nudging retro chic.

SadOtter · 01/04/2019 22:18

I think it is beautiful, sadly as every 'look at this hideous dress' thread has proven, if I think it is pretty everyone else on MN hates it.

GinandGingerBeer · 01/04/2019 22:18

Blimey, calm down people it's only a dress. Confused

LocksMyth · 01/04/2019 22:18

I am more disturbed by the notion of a 'school run dress'.
FFS can't we wear whatever without being judged?
Is there a pair of 'school run trousers' for the many dads who do the school run too?

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 01/04/2019 22:18

I will be as ostentatiously astonished as I wish,at the fuckery of dressing for school run

If you really are irked at associating the school run dress with the school run change its name
Out of interest How is the act of throwing clothes on different from getting dressed?

PenCreed · 01/04/2019 22:25

I quite like it, but then that shape suits me (not the pattern so much). That White Stuff one would make me look like I was wearing a particularly shapeless sack, and all their stuff is designed for taller women so it would be too long for me as well!
