Could you tell Alexa to put some random songs on.., presumably the sound system is also controlled by Alexa, just keep changing the tunes, they'll wonder what on earth is going on. Maybe a bit of Vanilla Ice? MC Hammer?

@Never, I bet there are millions of posts on AIBU dedicated to exactly your situation. Could it be that your invite never turned up and they all think you’re rude for not acknowledging? So many what ifs if nobody actually asks wtf is going on here....

I'm surprised that your DH hasn't said anything and why he don't seem to realise just how hurtful it is.. You do need to say something I reckon just once to your MIL so they know how you feel, then don't acknowledge the wedding again . Horrible situation though.
I did laugh about Vanilla ice that would have been so funny ( my friend wouldn't have thought so though, she is not a gentle laid back type and esp not when drunk.. that's why I usually escape when she gets into partying.. )

never that is truly bloody horrible, seems like real subterfuge to me especially when they were all invited & sodding well booking accommodation all together, that is sooo unkind & underhand, I’m not one for confrontation, but I would definitely be calling them out on it.

Ha ha laska I love the green biros. I'd be really annoyed and freaked by an Alexa that you are forbidden to turn off. (Why, just why?) We don't have one of those things and I really don't want one.

Order an Action Man with eagle eyes, then it can watch them too.

We randomly got sent an Alexa by Amazon in November. I phoned them about it, they said someone had purchased it for me as a gift, but couldn't say who. I have no idea where it came from as no one who loves me enough to spend that amount of money on me would ever think an Alexa would be an appropriate gift. And no one has dropped any 'did you get a parcel from me' questions. So it is sitting in its box waiting to be sold on ebay. I don't actually even really understands what it does, or why I would want one, but I'm sure I can live fine without it listening in on my life.

@Fuzzy - Love the Action Man! Was going to suggest ordering a paperback, a hardback and kindle versions of 1984 sent to all their devices.

Well the upshot was we weren't invited. MIL was absolutely furious and voiced it and seemed genuinely upset on our behalf. So I am now just going to draw a line under it and move on. Thanks for everyones support. I really appreciate it.

and the reason for not inviting us was it was the couple who had decided all the invites so that was that. Nothing to do with her daughter, [mother of the bride] seemingly.

Hey am home now, so funny that you all like the Green Biros! (my random brain - DH also thought it was funny/a bit weird! but he laughed like a drain when i told him ). Is we do a meet up I propose we each wear a green Biro in our top pocket!! (or behind one ear!) .

Do wish I had thought of sending them a copy of 1984, (I may actually take one with me next time we stay with them and 'accidentally' leave it in their guest bedroom!
