Help me spend £1k on 2 bags...

I am in the fortunate position of having £1000 to spend, I have decided that I would like to get two bags, one day, one evening but which and what is another issue.

I like hobo style bags but think that I probably want something more structured so it will last better. I don't want a tote or grab bag (have already/not keen) and would prefer shoulder, maybe cross body.

I'm off to Bicester soon and hoping to maybe get one of them there. So far, after a lot of consideration I have the following options...

  1. Mulberry Amberley satchel & Ginger and Brown clutch
  2. Coach Sutton Hobo & Mulberry clutch (Amberley maybe)

What would you do, any other suggestions (not a Bayswater)?

Re colours, evening bag probably in black, day not black or tan, maybe oxblood or brown...

Sorry it's long, I wanted to give all the info!
TIA

I love the Coach bag and would prefer to get two high end ones so I reckon option 2.
If you see a Mulberry Lily at Bicester that would be great for a small evening bag.
Happy Shopping, sounds like a great trip!

DontFundHate · 14/03/2019 15:11

Definitely 1!

Thanks, my head says get the coach one and maybe a Darley and the Ginger & Brown one. But then part of me is thinking I'll likely never have this cash to spend like this again so do I just go for it....

Someone at work has a Mulberry Anthony bag. She loves it. Hers is brown. It does look lovely. It's a bit too big and tempting to put too much in for me. She's very strict and has only the basics with her. She also stuffs it into a locker 😮.

DreamingofSunshine · 14/03/2019 17:53

I've got the Mulberry Amberley in oxblood and I love it. Personally I prefer a nicer day bag as I use it everyday whereas a evening bag gets relatively little use by me.

WinkysTeatowel · 14/03/2019 18:47

Thanks Dreaming, that good to know. I'm edging that way I think, realistically I could save and buy a different Coach bag but I don't think I would be able to justify a 'big' Mulberry out of my normal budget.

I have a black Mulberry Lily. I have to say, it's been a good buy. Light as air, but dressy enough for any occasion. Fits the essentials.

I wouldn't get a Mulberry day bag though. They're very expensive at that size and can be quite heavy. I'd go Coach.

MooMinCow · 14/03/2019 19:55

Have you looked at Aspinal? I got their Lottie bag in a black quilted leather last summer and it’s a brilliant! Superb quality, a bit structured and can be worn cross body or shoulder bag.

I also have a gold metallic Mulberry Lily which is similar to the Lottie but I had to get a felt liner for it as it was too floppy without one (unless I filled it with loads of stuff.)

I alternate between the two as my going out bags, but I think the Aspinal bags are a lot better quality than Mulberry these days.

emma6776 · 14/03/2019 20:36

I love aspinal bags. 15% off at the mo with SPRING19 too.

maloofhoof · 14/03/2019 20:44

I love the look of Mulberry bags and wanted one for my birthday. However when I went to choose one (coincidentally at Bicester village) I didn't like the feel of them. No matter which style, they all felt stiff and almost cheap, to me anyway.

WinkysTeatowel · 14/03/2019 21:23

I couldn't find any Aspinal bags today when I was looking, does anyone know if any department stores stock them? I forgot to look in House if Fraser annoyingly.

MooMinCow · 14/03/2019 21:36

They stock them in Selfridges and John Lewis - there’s a store list on their website

WinkysTeatowel · 14/03/2019 22:10

Thanks went to both of those today (Birmingham) but they didn't seem to have any!

Cambridge satchel company have lovely bags. I'd be spoilt for choice with your budget

diamantegal · 14/03/2019 22:17

I love hobo bags - I've tried more structured and always come back to the more comfortable ones. So I'd go with the Coach one - no point buying something you won't feel comfortable using.

Personally, I prefer a clutch bag for an evening, so will abstain on that one!

PH03b3 · 15/03/2019 06:36

I have a coach and i love the quality of it. There was an excellent sale in the coach outlet in York recently might be with a look if bicester has the same?

MooMinCow · 15/03/2019 06:47

OP if you’re in Brum Selfridges again, Aspinal are (confusingly) on the ground floor near the food hall/candles! Have no idea why Hmm

Onemoremakesthree · 15/03/2019 06:48

I've not looked what's available but I've just seen an email to say there's mulberry on brandalley... night be worth a look you could get three Wink

WinkysTeatowel · 15/03/2019 07:06

There's an Aspinal shop at St Pancras station. Some lovely bags and luggage in there.

WinkysTeatowel · 15/03/2019 07:13

Ooh thanks Onemoremakesthree I've signed up, they have a Freya I was considering before..

I have worked with the factory that makes Coach bags and I can confirm that they are beautifully made !

twosoups1972 · 15/03/2019 18:22

Oohh I love a bag thread!

I like both Coach and Mulberry but personally I think that Mulberry is a bit more special. I know their prices have gone crazy but they are lovely bags.

OP have you thought about smaller brands eg Strathberry or Manu Atelier?

DeRigueurMortis · 15/03/2019 18:29

I've quite a few mulberry bags and I love them.

My only advice would be to be a bit brave with the colour.

I've got 2 x black, 1 x brown, 1x red and 1 x Ivory.

The one actually use the most is the red one. Which frankly has surprised me.

It brightens up a multitude of outfits and coordinates well with more than I would have thought.

It just looks (apart from the Ivory one) more classy and expensive than the others for some reason.

In hindsight I wish I'd been braver with my other choices (maybe a bright blue for example). Hey ho, but I really can't justify getting yet another one Blush
