Hi everyone, will catch up tomorrow, having problems with MN site the stupid scam adverts & have to keep logging in & out, it’s really fecking irritating 😡

grannycake · 22/03/2019 21:09

laska tell me about it. I have a new motorhome and a plan for Provence this summer but if we want take the dog and we are no longer members of the EU she will need extra vet checks which will cost £250 and they need to be done 3 months before travel. If I knew that we would definitely left I'd pay up but it might not be needed. I think we will go in July but may have to persuade dear son to live back at home and look after the dog for a couple of weeks - will cost me his travel, fridge/freezer full of food and a large bottle of vodka still cheaper than vet

We're off the Northumberland for Easter so that's good

Ellapaella · 22/03/2019 21:24

@grannycake I live in Tynemouth, just a few miles away from Northumberland. We have a camper van and spend most weekends between May - September visiting different places on the Northumberland coast and national park. It's absolutely beautiful up here.. such an unspoilt part of the country, beautiful landscapes. If you haven't visited the Northumbrian coast yet then I would recommend Bamburgh and Holy Island as an absolute must. Holy Island there are some amazing beaches on the uninhabited end of the island (the part you can't access by car and only on foot).

ilovecherries · 22/03/2019 21:30

I know. Our plans were to head off to Europe in the van with the dog next March for our retirement gap year. Beyond pissed off.

miffy2 · 22/03/2019 22:16

@laska we are off for the two weeks around Easter, i am lucky enough to have those two weeks off work. Previous visits have been in August so I am looking forward to it being all green - and warm too!
We are v lucky in that our kids, while all teens, love coming on holiday with us. My parents divorced when I was 18, my dad remarried and he and his wife spend half the year in SA and half here in Dublin. The perfect life, not jealous at all, at all :D

My heart goes out to all of you who are unsure as to how the coming months are going to affect you. Over here we are all gobsmacked at the royal f*ckuppery of it all, but hoping the outcome is positive. I love my little road trips up to Belfast, I love hopping over to cousins in Manchester and London, I buy A LOT from the UK online. Those are superficial things but they will affect me - from the outside, in. I can only imagine how much tougher it will be from the inside out, if you get me. I am hoping the march, and the petition, go well.

grannycake · 23/03/2019 04:35

Ella I haven't been to Northumbria before but have wanted to for a long time. We plan to stay around Bamburgh and possibly travel p to the East coast of Scotland as well

Cherries its the uncertainty that's driving me mad. Lets hope the march today and other events help sanity prevail

dontcallmelen · 23/03/2019 09:57

Miffy dress is lovely & the trip sounds utterly amazing.
grannycake the outfit is fab, your trip also sounds brilliant yy let’s hope sanity prevails & the March goes well today.
Laska really really hope you get the camper van.

twosoups1972 · 23/03/2019 11:58

Morning all Smile

Bloody bloody Brexit Angry We had family over from the US last weekend, they said it's big news over there too. We are a laughing stock all over the world!

Funnily enough though, being the big worrier that I am....I try not to worry too much about it because it is totally out of our hands. I'm of course hoping there will be a positive outcome eventually even if takes years.

Laska2Meryls · 23/03/2019 12:07

I'm feeling really depressed about BloodyEffinS*dding Brexit this morning, I hope there's a huge, huge turnout at the March , - wish I could be there ...

Len we are definitely getting the van ( that and the BR are about the only things that's keeping me hopeful at the mo) , but not quite yet, perhaps end of this year ( I have the £ in bank now Smile, have been saving for it for the last 15 years by paying extra into my work pension .....)

twosoups1972 · 23/03/2019 12:09

laska completely agree with you about families. Even families who appear to all get on well all have their issues. I didn't have a happy childhood and grew up with a difficult mother who (probably) has mental health problems and personality disorder. She fell out with all extended family so I grew up with no family and was very lonely. In recent years I have tracked down my cousins and it has been totally wonderful. My mum's first cousin (who I adored as a child until my mum fell out with her) is more like a mum to me and she has got to know my 3 dds like a grandma Smile

twosoups1972 · 23/03/2019 12:11

laska campervan plan sounds exciting! I sometimes have dreams about driving from coast to coast in the US in a Winnabago Grin

Laska2Meryls · 23/03/2019 12:20

.. the work pension I cashed in last summer so effin Brexit ant take it way from me!
two Soups [solidarity fist] .. yup families are darn difficult, .. My non D sister and I grew up one with each parent after my DM and natural F divorced ( I dont know the real story of why, but I do know it affected my DM greatly and in latter years even though she got to know my S again, they never had an easy relationship ) In those days the mothers didn't have automatic rights to the children on divorce.. I was a v small baby at the time, so probably that why she could have me .. but my sister has always deeply resented me because of it.. we are non contact for many years , because I had enough of her abusing me , but even that caused probs for my poor DM .. Crap situation all round really..

twosoups1972 · 23/03/2019 12:22

So sorry to hear that laska Do you think you will ever resolve things with your sister or is it better to remain NC?

Redact · 23/03/2019 12:26

Hello hushistas. I've posted previously and you were all very helpful and friendly with the advice you gave me, which was spot on, so thank you. I'm thinking of buying the Frida cashmere jumper and wondering if any of you have one and can advise me which size to order please? I'm usually a size 10 or 12. Also looking to get the Hever canvas trainers, if I'm usually 4.5 should I be ok with the 4? Hush shoes I find seem to be fairly generous sizing but I do have wide feet! Thanking you all in anticipation.

twosoups1972 · 23/03/2019 13:00

redact lovely jumper, what colour are you getting? I would say Hush knitwear tends to come up on the large size so I would say a S or even an XS if you want it more fitted.

twosoups1972 · 23/03/2019 13:02

Anyone else struggling with what to wear in this weather? Here in London, it LOOKS sunny but is still quite cold (12 deg ish) and not warm enough for spring clothes, lighter jackets, bit of bare ankle etc. Is everyone else still wearing proper winter clothes?

ilovecherries · 23/03/2019 13:09

Can barely use MN atm because of those bloody pop ups. I still pretty much wearing winter clothes, soups. Dumped the hat/scarf/gloves but still wearing cashmere and a cami (rather than heatgen) and my Seasalt coat.

redact, I did have the ‘summer’ weight cashmere last year and it was very small - I needed XL. However, in their winter weight at a solid 12, I only needed an S. which is no help at all, I know!

Wishing I was in London, but just not able to take any bumping in crowds yet.

dontcallmelen · 23/03/2019 13:36

Cherries I’m the same with the pop ups really irritating 😡
Laska I meant to say as well, hope all goes with the family meal & must be very difficult when you have family dynamics causing you such pain especially as grief must be still so raw for you💐 glad that fffing brexit won’t damage the plans for the camper van, I also feeling very low at the moment, I’m so angry with all that’s going & the rise of the hardliners/right & their attitude towards the poor & vulnerable has deeply depressed me, I’m not going on the March as really struggling with fatigue at the moment dd & some of her friends are going though.
Soups yy the weather is grey & chilly.

Ellapaella · 23/03/2019 13:37

12 degrees is positively Mediterranean to us northerners soups! I've been wearing my white t shirt with Hush star fray boyfriend jeans and my new Hever trainers for the last 4 days. Weds, thurs and fri felt very warm to me when out and about walking the dog. Had my very light weight black down jacket on when outside.
Today's a bit colder (chilly north wind) but still wearing slightly cropped jeans and just a light sweater today. Needed to do my jacket up this morning walking along the beach though.

Ella lol I was thinking that as I typed us southern softy’s, I had the wood burner on last night I was freezings 😳

Ellapaella · 23/03/2019 13:46

Len GrinI've lived up here for over 10 years now and I really do think I'm acclimatised!
My eldest ds who is 16 flies down to Bristol to stay with his Dad every other weekend and says he gets that holiday feeling when he steps off the plane in Bristol as it feels so balmy in comparison!
We get nice winters in the NE, often very cold but usually dry and sunny, we don't get much rain in winter months. Cold, crispy winter days are lovely as long as the sun is shining.

OP posts:
ilovecherries · 23/03/2019 14:08

That’s the difference I certainly notice between the NE of England and the SW of Scotland. At home, it’s constantly wet and if I’m wearing enough to stay dry then I’m clammy as it’s just too warm. Here, it’s a nice cold most days, we rarely get the endless rain we have at home.

makemineapinacolada · 23/03/2019 14:18

Well my parcel arrived and the green linen jumper ones up small on me, is completely see through and boxy unfortunately. The navy love stack T-shirt is tight on me and looks very tacky - not a good haul!

ilovecherries · 23/03/2019 14:19

I’m also reflecting about my own future today (as a change from worrying about Brexit, the far right, climate change, my elderly parents etc etc). The one thing I’ve realised over the last 5 weeks is that I’m not ready to retire. I did realise this 8 years ago when I took early retirement/redundancy from my proper job. I thought it would be great and then when I found myself two months later making an excel spreadsheet to keep track of when I’d last done the top of the kitchen cabinets and the skirting boards, while Jeremy Kyle played in the background, I realised I had to get back to work. DH is going to retire at Xmas, and I decided this year that I would stop pitching new clients, and gradually let the business go. Five weeks off with surgery though and I’m already stir crazy. I don’t want to do the high pressure/lots of travel work I’m currently doing, but I need to find something flexible that won’t tie me geographically but that provides something in the way of stimulation/interest. I am SO bored. And I don’t really think having DH (dear though he is) around all day will be the answer. Sorry, not clothes related at all, but just a bit of an argh!

dontcallmelen · 23/03/2019 15:26

Cherries I know exactly what you mean I retired to early & am not well enough for employment, but I really should look at some proper volunteering, I have skills that could be really useful especially around homelessness/MH organisations etc been saying it for ages but need to get off my bum & do it, dgd goes to nursery two days a week from April so that will give me a bit more free time 😂 at the spreadsheet for cleaning I’m getting the same.
Ella agree if it’s sunny & cold makes all the difference it’s just been so grey here recently & the bloody wind has driven me mad, I’m always cold though even in the height of summer my hands n feet are practically blue.
