I thought Meghan looked amazing today. Loved the whole thing.

SwimmingInTheDeepBlueSea · 08/03/2019 21:23

curly id not heard Sophie speak before. I really like her voice - she sounds really kind.

itswinetime · 08/03/2019 21:36

Last time I heard Sophie talk her and Edward were doing a interview for the queens birthday I think 🤔

EstrellaDamn · 08/03/2019 22:11

Well that's exactly what I'm saying @TyraAllen

I wasn't saying one solution was better than the other, just that if I knew I was going to an event where the audience was at my arse-level (and that is the case right now) then I'd give that a bit of thought.

I'm as feminist as they come but 'make panel stages a better height for women's clothing choices' isn't hitting my top ten things I'm furious about right now.

itswinetime · 08/03/2019 22:32

Kate will attend an evening gala next week so that will be a gown event I'm guessing

This from Elizabeth Holmes’ instagram (she comments on Meghan and Kate’s outfits, it’s a good follow) is an interesting and valid point, and relevant to our threads!

The writing is small so... the original Instagram post she is quoting says:

‘I’m getting a lot of comments regarding Meghan’s dress length today, from women nonetheless! I found a very similar look Duchess Kate wore a few years back and I think they are both very lovely looks! Today is INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY! Let’s out some positivity out there and empower these women, not bring them down.’

Elizabeth Holmes’ response is:

‘A friendly reminder that telling women not to think critically about something like fashion is NOT away of supporting women! Women should not be forced into a place of having to love everything that another woman does or says or wears! It’s like telling a woman to be nicer or smile more. There is no need to be mean or take a cheap shot, but liking and/or agreeing with everything is in no way additive to the conversation! THINK CRITICALLY FAM! Think your true Thoughts.

This isn’t meant to be a slight against Meghan’s skirt length btw, but I thought the general point applied to what we’re doing on these royal style threads discussing fashion.

Sorry, forgot to close my quotation marks there! The last sentence referring to these threads is mine.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/03/2019 22:59

Oh a friend of mine is an NPG patron and met Kate at a gala a few years ago. He says she's extremely tall and willowy.

Pink Elizabeth Holmes is spot on, totally agree.

certainlymerry · 09/03/2019 03:48

Really applaud Sophie's speech. She works very hard and has a genuine interest and care about her causes. She is very like Princess Anne in the way she goes about her Royal duties - she doesn't make everything about her, she gets on with it in a quiet and determined way.

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/03/2019 07:46

I think they all genuinely care about the causes they champion, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it!

I'm not mad on the dress and the jacket is too tight but I guess that's better than a new one that won't fit in a few weeks time.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/03/2019 09:28

Okay,
I’m going to watch it now and will be back later to discuss

On an unrelated note, here's Nicky Haslam's list of things he considers common. Best not accept any homemade food at Nicky's house!

Dear Nicky, so past tense.

Kate didn't promote enough for some of her earlier smaller charities and missed events too (unless gala or evening type event) and they picked other people to take over patronage. The work she is doing now is a better fit for her (outdoors and children related), more suited to her interests and passions.

Sophie's voice sounds very similar to Kate's. I love Sophie's engagements, she does a lot too - she was in the top 6 last year.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/03/2019 18:39

Is Kate a mumsnetter?

Link from the other thread about her

I wonder if she lurks on the RS&G threads. I’d be so tempted.

AhoyDelBoy · 10/03/2019 01:51

Curtsies to the Duchess of Cambridge if she’s lurking here Smile

Hairydilemma · 10/03/2019 07:20

Found you all! Hello Smile

Rhubarbisevil · 10/03/2019 09:15

Nicky Harlem himself is common. “Not washing hands after the loo?” Ugh!

“Initials on shirts” a does he mean Ralph Lauren or monograms? Oh, why am I giving the ghastly man social media space? 💩

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/03/2019 09:16

Isn’t he dead?

Rhubarbisevil · 10/03/2019 09:17

My phone does not like the word Haslem!

Rhubarbisevil · 10/03/2019 09:18

Apparently not. Wikipedia says that his middle name is Ponsonby.
