Phillips Lumea has changed my life!

Just that, really.

Been using it since Xmas, every 10-14 days. Haven't removed hair from legs, pits, bikini line or arms in 10 days now and there's practically no regrowth. This isn't a sales pitch btw, I just wish I hadn't spent the last 10 years wanting one but thinking they were too much money!

deadsexy
I thought it would only work on dark hair and fair skin ?

Abcd3 · 29/03/2019 19:54

It sounds amazing!

@Florence11 I'd not heard of Eucerin cream before - just looked it up on Amazon! Do you recommend the 5% or 10%?

@MaryLennoxsScowl Very good question - I would also like to know this!

florence11 · 29/03/2019 20:25

@Abcd3 I use the 10% Smile

myidentitymycrisis · 29/03/2019 21:09

if anybody is interested there is a similar laser removal gadget in Tk maxx clearance for £102 reduced from 299

golightlytoday · 29/03/2019 21:13

Mine arrived today!

And I've just had my first sessions. Thoughts so far. ..

Very glad I got on that does the slide feature. Doing legs with it is much faster.

I used on highest 5 setting for legs. Around knees I could feel it but not painful. Did legs much quicker than I thought I would. Probably close to the 15 mins they says and did full legs.

Underarms superquick, bit more of a twang. Did it on 4. But not an ouch.

Face, I have the one with face attachment. But top lip was very awkward as you need to have skin flat against it and was hard. But think got there. Chin the same. Really hard to get actual chin zapped as not flat! But did my best. I actually swapped to the body attachment as seemed easier.

Sides of face were easy and again used the body attachment.

Didn't do bikini line as really don't want to shave it but can't be arsed getting it waxed before. So wanted to see what regrowth was like on legs first and then suck it up and shave bikini.

I was about an hour doing all above including texting in between and using the little shaver thing I got with mine (which is awesome!!) on bit of face.

Overall I'm really surprised how fast and easy it was. And much quicker on legs than epilating for me.

I will report back results as I go!

myidentitymycrisis · 30/03/2019 00:32

I have done my legs twice, first time on 3, second on 4. Difficult to see if any difference yet. I’m reluctant to do my face as I have never removed my ‘tache only bleached it.

Abcd3 · 30/03/2019 11:47

@golightlytoday That slide feature sounds good. What type did you get, please?

Abcd3 · 30/03/2019 12:32

Thank you!

Btw, I have very fair skin with a few scattered brown freckles. Does anyone know whether it’s ok to use a Lumea on skin with freckles? (Not heavily freckled, just several dotted around.)

ShirleyPhallus · 30/03/2019 12:37

This sounds amazing!

Those who have done bikini areas - have you done all the way underneath and around to bum hole or just bikini line?

Haffiana · 30/03/2019 14:47

They may hurt when you zap them as they absorb the light pulse just as a dark hair does. It depends how dark they are. What most people do is use a white make up pencil (kohl) on them or any similar marks before zapping.

TanselleTooTall · 30/03/2019 14:50

I'm too dark to use one. 😭

Abcd3 · 30/03/2019 20:30

@Haffiana Thank you!

So much useful info here! I have read through this entire thread twice, trying to work out which model to buy! It seems the people who've reported good results and specified the model have used the BRI956. The Philips website no longer has it in stock. I don't know whether this is it? www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N6SJ4NU/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I'm wondering whether to get the Costco one (BR1923): www.costco.co.uk/Health-Beauty/Philips-Lumea-Advanced-Corded-IPL-Hair-Removal-Device-for-Hair-Body-Bikini-and-Face-BRI92300/p/923923 Has anyone achieved permanent hair removal with this one? (Wondering whether it's as good as the BR1956!)

Grumpasaurus · 30/03/2019 21:51

Amazing guys- thanks for all this! I have just ordered the one from Costco. I have PCOS and am hairy, hairy, hairy. Am excited by this!

Will keep you posted.

Does it work on men? DH is HAIRY!

Mummylou83 · 04/04/2019 12:35

I have an old model, Lumea prestige - is this one any good now or is it the more updated models?

PositiveDiscipline · 04/04/2019 12:51

I thought IPL was permanent. I had my lower legs zapped in a salon about 11 years ago and only about 5 hairs have grown back in that time.

I may buy one of these machines to do the rest of my body.

PositiveDiscipline · 04/04/2019 16:02

Oh bloody hell. You lot have just made me buy one. I need to get off S&BConfused

EntirelyAnonymised · 04/04/2019 16:10

golightly, you talk about getting your bikini area waxed ‘before’. Before what? Before using the IPL? If so, it won’t work. Waxing isn’t compatible with IPL.

You need to shave or very closely trim the hair, leaving the root still in place under the skin as the heat from the IPL needs to penetrate and be absorbed deep into the hair root. That’s how it works. It works on the hair under the skin. Waxing removes the hair at the root, so there is nothing in the follicle for the IPL energy to work on.

BringmeGin · 07/04/2019 00:32

I've just bought a Syosin one for £85 from Amazon and done my first session today. Will report back but not expecting immediate results of course. I just couldn't stretch to the Lumea price tag but have read loads of articles and reviews of the top IPL devices and this one ticks all the boxes so fingers crossed!!

Fazackerley · 07/04/2019 07:53

Sorry to say but the first few 5 star reviews of the syosin are fake.

Fazackerley · 07/04/2019 08:07

Of course that doesn't mean it's no good! I'm a bit nerdy about spotting fake reviews. Report back!

BringmeGin · 07/04/2019 23:43

Will do x

golightlytoday · 09/04/2019 16:46

@EntirelyAnonymised delayed reply!

The lumea says you can wax before it ok. Or epilate. As that's what always stopped me getting on. But newer ones say it's fine.

I have now since getting bikini waxed done all body and face now.

Nothing to report back from first go yet. But looking forward to second go and maybe seeing a result start.

bddandotherissues · 09/04/2019 20:04

I’d love one of these but they are so expensive but I’m place marking to see if the cheaper ones are any good
I have pcos so need something
