Phillips Lumea has changed my life!

Just that, really.

Been using it since Xmas, every 10-14 days. Haven't removed hair from legs, pits, bikini line or arms in 10 days now and there's practically no regrowth. This isn't a sales pitch btw, I just wish I hadn't spent the last 10 years wanting one but thinking they were too much money!

I have the original Lumea, bought about 10 years ago. I used it as per the instructions and was hair free after a few months. I used it every now and then over the years and have remained completely hair free. I used to get awful ingrown hairs before getting the Lumea.

I want to buy a newer model as the battery on mine is now terrible and I want one with the facial attachments and think maybe corded would be better?

Which model is best to get?

cheezy · 25/03/2019 09:20

Has anyone had laser hair removal at a salon instead of doing it at home? I had a trial season last summer and have only just realised (after a winter of hairiness) that the patch the woman did on my leg is much much less hairier Shock

So I wonder whether it would be easier/ cheaper to have a session in a salon instead of buying a lumea....

Greatly encouraged that I may have a less hairy future ahead of me Smile

poppym12 · 25/03/2019 09:22

So this definitely won't work on chin hairs that are coming through white? Dammit.

Fazackerley · 25/03/2019 09:24

Yes I had my chin done in the salon. It cost 60 per session and all the back within a year.

I've done my legs and bikini line about 4 times now. It's really really worked. I have to shave once a fortnight as opposed to almost daily. My armpits are practically hair free after 3 sessions. Chin hair still stubborn, but all the little black follicles have gone completely. Still have white hairs there and some fine darker hairs.

Fazackerley · 25/03/2019 09:25

Sorry meant to say that was with the lumea! So deffo worth 300 as that's what 6 sessions of lip and chin would have cost in the salon.

I used to get on growing hairs on my thighs they have gone.

Ooh ooh and the BEST thing is , the regrowth on my legs and bikini line DOES NOT ITCH.

RumblyGrumbleNoise · 25/03/2019 14:01

Just got my philips lumea and im a bit confused by instructions Blush
Can I just ask (sorry if this has already been answered!) It says you can epilate wax or shave inbetween IPL treatments but I thought you could only shave? Does any one have experience of waxing/epilating while using? I've only done one treatment so far but had a wax booked in for Thursday and don't want to mess up the ipl?
TIA

BIGGESTBISHYO · 25/03/2019 14:01

I’ve got one of these... bought it over 18 months ago and never took it out of the box Blush

This thread has inspired me to break it out.

I need help with facial hair. I have a very Furry face, with the odd thicker chin hair (attractive, I know)
I currently use plucking and one of those flawless shaver things to keep it at bay.
Would this work whilst using the flawless shaver instead of actually shaving? The thought of putting a proper razor to my face makes me nervous.

And will this work over acne scars?

FrontRowSeat · 25/03/2019 14:08

I’m desperate for one of these but scared of the price tag!! Would it be weird/disgusting to buy one second hand? Blush

RumblyGrumbleNoise · 25/03/2019 14:12

I don't think it's disgusting to buy second hand!
But just in case it makes a difference to you I got mine from Costco they are on promo atm for £191. Which I think it good?

RumblyGrumbleNoise · 25/03/2019 14:14

IS good Blush

MediumBags · 25/03/2019 14:14

Do you use a visor?

SadieContrary · 25/03/2019 14:26

I created another thread to avoid derailing the OP's post but no answer and any wee bit of reassurance would be appreciated 👍🏼

<a class="break-all" href="http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=www.philips.ae/c-p/BRI954_60/lumea-prestige-ipl-hair-removal-device/specifications" target="_blank">https://www.philips.ae/c-p/BRI954_60/lumea-prestige-ipl-hair-removal-device/specifications

Does anyone have this model?

Bought it following a thread on here extolling its virtues (the Lumea in general) but I thought it was the BRI956 - am I right in thinking that the only difference is one less attachment? It was my error, not the retailer.

I paid approx £288. I'm thinking I got a good deal. Reassure me please. It's a big spend so just want to make sure

NotGenerationAlpha · 25/03/2019 14:43

Another lumea believer. I'm still almost hair free 7 years and going. I only need to give it a top up everytime I see a stray hair appearing. And that's really rare.

NotGenerationAlpha · 25/03/2019 14:44

@Honeycake50 I'm very hairy with thick and black hair. Basically hair all over my lower leg, arms and armpits. I used to have to shave every other day.

RumblyGrumbleNoise · 25/03/2019 14:44

@SadieContrary
That looks identical to the one I just purchased apart from mine has a bikini attachment. I paid £191 for mine.
Where did you get yours from?
I can't give you any reassurance as I've only used once but maybe you could try and get it cheaper?

Fazackerley · 25/03/2019 14:50

I paid almost 300 quid for mine and its the same as that with one less attachment.

I shopped around a bit and in the end just went for it, probably could have saved 80 if I had waited a week or so but wanted to crack on.

The attachments are a PITA and unnecessary IMO

I do almost every part of my body with the big main body one anyway!

Fazackerley · 25/03/2019 14:51

Do you use a visor? no but the flash bothers me so I tend to wear my sunglasses!

NurseNancyandDoctorDavid · 25/03/2019 17:59

@Haffiana , thank you, just ordered from Costco!

icannotremember · 26/03/2019 11:15

If you had to choose, which of these would you go for?

The Braun Silk Expert BD5001 currently £230 on Amazon or The Philips Lumea SC1999/00 for £128?

Fazackerley · 26/03/2019 11:46

the lumea

Chicinwellies · 26/03/2019 21:57

I have blonde hair and medium skin tone - I take it this wouldn’t be ideal for me?

golightlytoday · 27/03/2019 06:56

Trying to decide if the prestige model is worth the extra £100 or so.

www.wearebodybeautiful.com/philips-lumea-prestige-vs-lumea-advanced/

It is quicker and has cordless option. But then I'm worried about remembering to charge the battery always so it doesn't die.

Fazackerley · 27/03/2019 07:01

I never use the cordless setting

golightlytoday · 27/03/2019 14:20

Just ordered the Costco one. Can't justify the prestige price!
