MIdgebabe · 26/02/2019 16:42

Excuse the crappy nail polish etc obviously wasn't expecting sunshine!

SleepingStandingUp · 26/02/2019 16:45

I assume its a comment of function over form? That they aren't pretty enough to be "nice" Southern Shoes?

I had some similar, literally wore them til they died they were so comfy

MrsGaryLightbody · 26/02/2019 16:46

Oh god def not pretty ! Functional and comfy plus great for walking I've turned into my mother shoot me now

Northern?

🤨

I hate sandals. Any kind. Especially with long trousers 😁

So all I can say is that they’re ‘outdoor sandals’ for walking etc so it depends what you do for a job how appropriate they are for work & the sort of comment you’re likely to get.

But ‘Northern’. Nope.

RiverTam · 26/02/2019 16:48

the only thing that is northern is that you've whipped out your sandals at the first glimpse of sunshine Grin.

Decormad38 · 26/02/2019 16:48

I think that the person was just looking to have a random jibe at Northerners and found a convenient and rather pathetic way to do it. The sandals are just sandals. The friend needs to get a life.

IncrediblySadToo · 26/02/2019 16:49

🔫

formerbabe · 26/02/2019 16:49

They look like orthopaedic shoes...Sorry Grin

LightDrizzle · 26/02/2019 16:57

Northerner here. I’m pretty sure it’s because you’re wearing sandals in February. It’s like the thing of Northerners not wearing coats, particularly on a night out, unless it is below zero.
Obviously it’s a cliche and a stereotype, but having lived in London, Oxfordshire and back up here again, it is based on truth!

averylongtimeago · 26/02/2019 16:58

They look very comfortable. Eminently suitable for a day walking about or being your feet all day when the wearisome warm
Who cares what anyone else thinks? They are your feet!

MrsGaryLightbody · 26/02/2019 17:01

I'm sure it wasn't a really mean jab but as an honorary Northern lass I'm happy to wear them them for walking the lakes etc but should they only be seen North of Brum lol
Oh well it's the only pair I have at mo so they'll have to get used it , shall wear a flat cap and bring my whippets tomorrow Wink

OP posts:
notacooldad · 26/02/2019 17:03

I have a couple pairs of those sandals but I tend to wear them for outdoor activity type stuff eg kayaking, being on a beach, changing into after taking hiking boots etc.
I work with teenagers and has them on one day last year. O e of the kids came chatting and suddenly went ' what the fuck are they!! I hadn't a clue what she was on about but she was referring to my sandals which were approximately the same age as her!🤣🤣

I am Northern!

Imissgmichael · 26/02/2019 17:04

I have some very similar. Do a lot of walking so teetering around in silly sandles is consigned to history when I was 17 and daft or when I’m not doing much walking. The ones you have are very like my professional and expensive walking sandles.

Your colleague sounds like a tit.

fluffiphlox · 26/02/2019 17:04

Aah I see. I was expecting clogs.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 26/02/2019 17:04

shall wear a flat cap and bring my whippets tomorrow

For your bait, take a ham and pease pudding stottie as well. That'll learn them

PickAChew · 26/02/2019 17:06

You'd get frostbite wearing them up north!

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2019 17:08

Oh for goodness sake, it was just a daft joke, why do some people over analyse stuff to this degree.

Imissgmichael · 26/02/2019 17:46

We’re a hardier lot in the north. Wearing sandles at the moment.

DorothyZbornak · 26/02/2019 17:52

Sorry, but I agree with your workmate. I'm afraid they're definitely nana sandals.

Doobigetta · 26/02/2019 18:08

I’m going to have to bite and say that I haven’t seen anyone in my Northern city either wearing sandals in February or wearing such fugly shoes. Sorry.

NotMeNoNo · 26/02/2019 18:25

Record breaking Fugly Sandals thread in February.

I cannot get the teva sandal hate on SnB. They're just trainers for hot weather.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/02/2019 18:44

Can't imagine any Northern girl wearing sandals like that OP - we tend to be a lot more glamorous than our southern counterparts!

When you said Northern sandals I was imagining perilously high strappy stilletoes - worn whilst wobbling through the Bigg Market in a blizzard...
