Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your lady garden grow?

So I’ve become a bit obsessed with this lately as let’s be honest when do you ever see other people’s real life lady gardens? So time for a straw poll:

Are you a bare naked kinda lady? Landing strip? Wide berth? Trimmed? Au naturel?

The media makes out it’s weird to have public hair. I’m thinking naked truth on channel 4, hair removal adverts, you name it. But what is the majority status quo? Do most women these days really remove all their hair? I’m taking the above examples as an unrepresentative sample of the population considering if you choose to go on a tv show and have your naked body scrutinised you will probably not go on there without some grooming for show.

So hit me Grin

I’ll go first. I reserve bikini waxes for high days and holidays. I don’t shave as I get awful awful shaving rash. So I trim from time to time, but I am most definitely not neat and tidy. I do wax my legs and my eyebrows and shave my armpits regularly. Dh doesn’t care about the state of down there so I don’t bother doing that much but now I’m really self conscious when I use shared swimming changing rooms terrified of being judged by the bare waxers out there!

If they'd said 4% of women under 25 I'd believe it.

TortoiseLettuce · 09/02/2019 22:31

I leave it. Tried shortening it with scissors but that made it prickly? So I leave it alone.

gnushoes · 09/02/2019 22:42

Don't remove hair except stray chin ones and bizarre spiral bits of eyebrow.

Megan2018 · 09/02/2019 22:46

All shaved off because it has gone grey!!! And that makes me feel old. Am only 40.

I prefer sex that way too. But main reason is the grey. Head hair and eyebrows are dyed. Am very dark everywhere and the grey is hideous.

LilQuim · 09/02/2019 23:00

@TheBreastmilksOnMe no, sorry, love! Read it back & it was my stupid wording!! BlushGrin

LilQuim · 09/02/2019 23:02

I used to chat with a guy in the States & he said he much preferred a full bush. Called the hairs "flavour savers"! Confused

Seaseasea · 09/02/2019 23:02

No one has to answer this if they don’t want too of course but I am genuinely curious... when you have the ‘full natural’ downstairs, does it not interfere with head? Are your partners all natural too?

(Not judging btw, wish I wasn’t weird about my hair!)

ladyvimes · 09/02/2019 23:02

Generally free with the occasional trim. I’m not shaving it off til my husband shaved off his!!

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 09/02/2019 23:09

I'm waxed bare, personal choice. I just like it more that way. DH couldn't care less what hair is on it. Used to use hair removal cream, Superdrug do a good one, but it was a hassle. Much quicker to get it waxed once every few weeks.

AssassinatedBeauty · 09/02/2019 23:10

@Seaseasea no it doesn't "interfere" - not sure how it possibly could, and no, my (male) partner doesn't remove hair either. I

DinosApple · 09/02/2019 23:21

I don't bother most of the time (I'm 36). Occasionally I wax. Same with armpits and legs. I'm very lazy with that sort of maintenance. If I'm in a skirt I'll have hairfree legs, otherwise I won't bother.

If I go for a smear I prefer a full bush, makes me feel less naked ConfusedGrin.

Seaseasea · 09/02/2019 23:22

Oh that’s good then! I can’t/won’t give head on my partner unless he’s bare. I was curious if this was a ‘me’ thing or not.

reallyanotherone · 09/02/2019 23:30

It’s a “you” thing Smile

Bawdrip · 09/02/2019 23:33

I don't shave anywhere. Thick dark 70's bush. DP doesn't care although occasionally likes it shaved for a change. I hate shaving as I get a rash and ingrown hairs which is so ugly. I recently stopped shaving my pits and legs too. I like my hairy pits but not my legs. I'll shave them again when it gets to spring. I find pubes much sexier than bald genitals on men and women tbh.

Bubastes · 09/02/2019 23:34

I much prefer a man to have pubic hair although if you've seen Naked Attraction it seems bald is the norm with younger men too.

GreenDinosaur · 09/02/2019 23:57

I use a beard trimmer, does a nice neat job without the creepy, bald look. Every few weeks it gets to the point where it feels a bit too long and I do it again.
Personally, I feel a bit sweaty and itchy when it's too long.

Don't think DH really cares but it's my body so I do it for my comfort not his.

WoollyMummoth · 10/02/2019 00:02

Au naturel, always has been always will be. It feels nice and fluffy after a shower.🙂

halfwitpicker · 10/02/2019 00:33

Mid 30s, full Bush here.

Ribbonsonabox · 10/02/2019 00:52

Oh I'd be repulsed if I ever encountered a fully shaved/waxed man... I mean obviously I'd be polite about it it's up to him what he does and I dont want to hurt anyone feelings... but hed not be getting anywhere with me sexually, I'd make my excuses and get out of there!

Exploitedteadrinker · 10/02/2019 01:04

For your perusal and delectation! Definitely a lot more than 4% hairy!

I saw that article today. Interesting. Predictably, on Twitter, there were a lot of people (men and women, ugh!) making 'oh so hilarious' vulva/volvo gags and declaring that the vulvas in the article weren't as pretty as they'd like them to be.

People can be trash sometimes.

Bryjam · 10/02/2019 01:17

I'm the wrong side of 40 and with the exception of the off mad moment in my 20's have always had a natural bush. A few weeks ago I shaved it because I had some dry skin forming and wanted to put cream on the skin not the hair. Anyway o think I am a convert. No idea why but I prefer it shaved now! DH doesn't even know yet!

honeylane · 10/02/2019 01:20

I shave everything off every 2 weeks or so

I find it really itchy and uncomfortable when it's too long

Tolleshunt · 10/02/2019 01:27

I get a trim round the sides and clip it shorter for holidays, but otherwise the full 70s bush. All hair removing methods are either painful, ineffective or leave harsh stubble and ingrown hairs. Plus I'm inherently lazy. Plus I'm too old now to give a shiny shite about what's fashionable (early 40s). Plus, if I do think about the cultural expectations it then makes me feel a bit rebellious not to.

But basically I'm lazy.

I like men to be au natural too. There's something weirdly demasculated to me about men shaving off their hair.

SleightOfMind · 10/02/2019 01:28

Au Nat for the last 7 yrs or so.
Before that I did fanny about with different styles for fun and novelty but default setting was always Joy Of Sex bush.

I’ve got four DCs and no one batted a hair at my furriness with DS1.

12 years later with the DTs, it was definitely seen as unusual by midwives & docs.
