@Sheep - Thanks for the congrats. The "pop of colour" thing, I have decided to ignore (Along with his sportswear.) for the sake of matrimonial harmony - as long as he doesn't bring it up again, of course. Weirdo. I think the weight I haven't managed to lose is the mental weight. My inner image has not yet caught up at all! (I have almost no concept at all of my own image -I honestly avoid mirrors and photos like the plague because I have years of finding it too painful to look at.)

ilovecherries · 12/02/2019 13:45

I know what you mean lou. I’m getting better, but last year when my entire wardrobe needed replaced I really struggled. I was constantly putting on new clothes, posting a picture here, and getting a chorus of ‘try two sizes down’. I literally had no concept of what I looked like and after years of mirror dodging found the whole changing room/mirror thing quite traumatic.

NotAnActualSheep · 12/02/2019 14:17

Thanks soups and len - yy, it is indeed a bastard. Just so indiscriminate and unfair.

But anyway, I've persuaded myself to just call to book my smear - so this thread has at least encouraged me to do something that doesn't involve spending money on clothes Grin

Flowers cherries - there seems to be so many things going on with you and your DD I'm not surprised you are anxious and fretting about it all... And never and len too - it must be a fear that influences all other aspects of your life Sad .

justilou Grin - I think that's sensible! I love how the stock response for the most minor of slights is always LTB on MN... But I know what you mean re outer and inner image not always matching up.

Yup - the invoice for the trousers was £0.00 (plus free delivery) (I didn't try the 10% off code Grin ). I'm not questioning it... Hope you hear back soon on the trainers never.

twosoups1972 · 12/02/2019 15:08

sheep you’ve reminded me I need to book a smear too. But my cycle is so irregular (pre menopausal) now I don’t know when to book it!

NotAnActualSheep · 12/02/2019 15:17

Yes - me too soups! I'm going from a 12 day cycle to a nearly 60 day cycle with no warning about what is happening!! (sorry, TMI) Which is partly why I've been putting it off for about 6 months Blush. Decided to bite the bullet - and I can always postpone for the following week if needed, which i hate doing, but probably better than not booking at all... And I've booked it for around day 13, so would be unlucky for them to be soooo close.

miffy2 · 12/02/2019 15:19

On the topic of health screening, I am grateful to be living in a country where it is a given/right. Cancer has torn my extended family apart and has been the cause of all bar one of the deaths of aunts/uncles/grandparents. So if I have the chance to catch it early, I will.

I have been getting yearly mammograms since I was 45 because of family history and I get my smear done religiously every 3 years (think it may be every 5 after 50 though? Not sure). Next year I will move into the national breast screening programme for 50+ so I don't know how regular the mammograms will be done then. This year's one found a cyst that I had not noticed with self-exam so again I was grateful.

I had a colonoscopy done several years ago and should probably get another done; however there is so much prepping to be done for it that I keep putting it off.

dontcallmelen · 12/02/2019 15:29

Miffy agree totally with your post, cancer has totally decimated my family my parents both died of cancer within six months of diagnosis. Nine of my DF siblings died of cancer & also three cousins who died very young. That’s why my attitude to screenings is so irrational but I just can’t bear the thought of more tests.

ilovecherries · 12/02/2019 15:57

I have a colonoscopy every three years as part of a research project. It’s grim, but to be honest, I find it easier to cope with than the poop scoop because it’s instant feedback, versus waiting for two weeks, during which time I become a crazy woman. So I don’t do the poop scoop. I’ve been having mammograms every 18months - 2 years since I was 40, as my two closest friends died of it in their late 30s, leaving very small children. I get really upset and anxious waiting forresults though. Now I’m over 50, I have the nhs one every three years and a private one in between, as the nhs appt frequently nudges to nearer 4 years. Smear though - had them religiously till 53, then my last one at 56 she couldn’t get the bloody speculum in, my VA was so bad. Bloody menopause. It’s was horribly traumatic und obviously unsuccessful and I haven’t gone back as I’m not even sure she’d get it in and I couldn’t face that again. I’m hoping that 35 years of regular smears before that, with never a hint of a problem, is offering me at least some protection.

EachandEveryone · 12/02/2019 18:16

I feel that since I turned 50 I’m falling to bits!!! It’s my joints now and puffy feet and legs I know it’s the downside to nursing but I used to have beautiful ankles now they are like elephants. I wonder could it be the hrt?

Ive just been to anthropology and bought a jumpsuit for my brothers wedding. I love that shop.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/02/2019 18:22

@each,i am the same :( I feel my legs ache, my back aches, I have hot flushes. Just generally feel I am falling apart too!

Morning all, office day here again burgundy Ivy and burgundy dyed m&S leopard legging cherry zebra scarf and star necklace .. so to king the Hush look. I saw my local M&S had snake print .
leggings in..
I'm lucky in that my commute is rural and it was lovely this morning, definite signs of spring. Lots of snow drops and our daffs are starting to bloomSmile

ilovecherries · 13/02/2019 09:24

I’m in running gear. Just done my ‘long’ run of 10K. Having a quiet working day at home, tying up loose ends, so have zebra leggings and charcoal wide top laid out. DD is on her way down for a few days, so will need to head to Penrith to get her later today. The east coast station is much closer but it adds a long time to her journey to come that way.

SoyYo · 13/02/2019 09:30

Buenos días! Hard to keep up as you’ve all been so chatty and also very wise.
@laska it’s a beautiful big hall and triffid obviously thriving with the light there. Your orange faces T is great
@cherries I think you’re super brave having all those tests.
Like @melen I’m in denial most of the time and after one mammogram 6 years ago haven’t been back because I hated the boob squash ouch! I guess I must go back when I get the next GP letter.
@not well done on booking a smear! (Hate those too but did have one 2 years ago)
Also well done to you all for returning stuff! I have bought a lovely pair of Pikolino shoes in the sale (DH got a pair of Pikolino shoes too, they’re fab quality) and went a bit mad in the Kiko makeup front but otherwise halo intact despite being super tempted in Massimo Dutti (May yet succumb before we fly back)
Weather is fabulous clear skies, sunshine! Nights chillier but with wood burner on it’s all good.
@ella that Tesco jumper is a marvellous Hush dupe
@never what trainers?
@justi glad you’ve got your fur coat but sorry the arms are not great Sad Will you keep?

Here’s a pic of our hall in Spain, shoes on the floor Blush and our wood burner in the evenings.

One good thing I’ve done for my health is a visit to the podriatist (not sure if that’s the right word in English) to get my feet measured for insoles to give arch support to my flat feet...picking them up on Thursday. I think they’ll help me massively.

I’ll try and catch up again before long. Hasta pronto Hush girls!

dontcallmelen · 13/02/2019 10:34

Soy lovely cosy rooms, I would be very tempted in Massimo Dutti😄
Yy insoles should really help, sounds like you are having a fabulous time & weather sounds gorgeous.
Laska today’s outfit sounds very stylish, Yy spring small signs here as well it’s quite warm here, got two loads of washing dry on the line yesterday.
Cherries just thinking about a 10k makes me feel tired, enjoy the few days with dd.

NaturalBornWoman · 13/02/2019 10:46

Well curiouser and curiouser. My trousers have arrived today, they are on the invoice @ £0. I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth obviously.

dontcallmelen · 13/02/2019 10:55

Natural I think another poster, poss Not also got free trousers tis very odd.
Never & Each yy the aches n pains I creak for about an hour first thing in the morning, especially when it’s cold.

justilou1 · 13/02/2019 11:17

@soy -your fire looks lovely and cosy!!! My arms are short, it’s not the coat that is the problem. I can get the coat fixed, so I will keep it! It is summer in Australia and I have plenty of time. It is very hot here now!!!
Enjoy your fire and your beautiful stylish clothes!

SoyYo · 13/02/2019 12:55

Ah thanks for the wood burner ❤️. We had it installed 2 years ago and it really is great in the evening, but right now making the most of the beautiful sunshine 18C and just soaking up the rays. It’s forecasted more or less the same till Sunday when it’s supposed to rain and we’ll be flying back in any case. At night it drops to 5-7C which is why we need the wood burner but once you get to March it’s really not used anymore till the following winter.
@justi I’m glad it’s just a matter of a small sleeve alteration and the coat is great and a keeper. And massive kudos to you for the weight loss! Yes in super hot humid summer who cares you must waft about in loose cool clothes and develop sloth like tendencies unless it involves lots of water exercising. I can cope with hot much better than cold due to being born and growing up in subtropical temperatures but tbh extreme heat or cold is just as annoying.
The temperature right now in Marina Alta is perfect, no wind, lovely warmth in the sun but comfortable for long walks and as the nights draw in just the wood burner is enough to take the chill off. We have air con (hot/cold) here but never bother with it as it’s expensive to keep it on but more importantly I don’t like the feel of it. In the summer fans are enough as Spanish houses are geared up to hot weather and always quite cool indoors. You know the saying of only Mad Dogs and Englishmen... Wink

NotAnActualSheep · 13/02/2019 14:02

Haha natural - yes, I ordered those as well (on your "recommendation" at the weekend) and nothing else - just to see what would happen... They were delivered, rather unexpectedly, I have to say, given I paid no money... I note they put the price back up to £45 shortly afterwards, so presumably someone, somewhere, had cottoned on, but didn't think tell the warehouse or whoever was dealing with previously placed orders. Do you like them, after all that?! I really do (again, unexpectedly... lightweight trousers are generally a bit of a gamble over my less-than-toned bum/ thighs). They are rather thin, and crumpled but the shape seems to work on me. As you say - not looking any gift horses anywhere...

Loving soy's cosy fire. I'm glad you're having a nice, relaxing time, and enjoying the the shopping/ pampering opportunities and a little bit of sunshine and heat. Though as others have said, it does actually seem as if the weather is turning better here famous last words and it's a beautiful clear, crisp day today. And good call on the insoles - although they feel "boring" hopefully they will really help your posture/ foot aches...! (My DM did something similar recently and she says it is a game changer Grin )

each - I love a jumpsuit! I only go into anthropologie in the sales, and I always feel its a bit like a jumble sale - though last time I actually ventured into the non-sale stuff, and, yy, I could have spent a fortune! its all in the styling on the mannequins I think...I'm generally not at all tempted by the sale racks as i just can't picture it.

laska and cherries are both hushing it today!! You both sound v stylish.

And noooo - please don't say ankles fall victim to the menopause too??! They are one of the few bits of me that I actually quite like.

Babygrey7 · 13/02/2019 16:47

I just bought the girlfriend chinos in green, love how they are cut for a curvy figure yet "hang" and are not clingy like skinnies

Hated the blue "lucky" tee (poor quality)

Kept the denim pencil skirt, even though the fabric is quite thin

And sent back the denim mini (too short on my 6ft frame Grin)

....and kept the extra long long harems (this may be my 3rd pair, the quality is not as good as last year, thinner fabric)

All in all not bad Smile but I feel the quality is not as reliable as it used to be

dontcallmelen · 13/02/2019 17:30

Baby sounds as though at least you got lucky with some of your order, I love the denim skirts yy quality Laska I think it was said the same about some of the tees.

dontcallmelen · 13/02/2019 17:30

Sainsburys have 25% off at the moment, do sometimes have some gems especially the biker jackets.

NaturalBornWoman · 13/02/2019 17:35

Not that is funny, glad to be of service. Grin I do like them even though as you say they are thin, I think they look nice and just what I wanted for my holidays. I toyed with the idea of the blue but I'm ashamed to say that after a two week struggle with myself I caved in and ordered from Poetry today and it is time to stop with the holiday wardrobe now. I only have a 30kg luggage allowance!
