Here we go again, and as always say what you like about the clothes but keep it civil re the wearers of said clothes!

Excellent idea!

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/01/2019 07:38

@Clionba is Elizabeth Longford Lady Longford? If so then her daughter is also a well-known biographer - Lady Antonia Fraser, who ran off with Harold Pinter.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/01/2019 07:38

And has written numerous biographies of various monarchs

OP posts:
Clionba · 28/01/2019 08:29

Yes indeed. Fraser's Mary, Queen of Scots would be an other recommendation.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/01/2019 08:36

And it continues into the third generation, Antonia Fraser's daughter Flora is also a biographer and wrote a very interesting book about the daughters of George III. Only one was permitted to marry while he was alive. The rest had stiflingly dull existences while their father lived and either died a spinster or got married late in life. One of them allegedly had an illegitimate son but the rumours were that her brother (ancestor of Princess Caroline's husband Ernst) was the father Shock

That's fascinating (and awful!). Didn't one of the illegitimate grandchildren end up in a workhouse?

VanillaSugarr · 28/01/2019 09:32

Hello, finally caught up with the thread. Charlene looks like she’s a monk in that black outfit. Is she trying to tell us something about her marriage?

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/01/2019 09:53

@Clionba I don't think so. It was given out that his father was some ancient general but the rumour was that her brother fathered him. From what we know about Prince Ernst (her brother, not Caroline's husband!) he seems entirely plausible as a rapist.

I think the person in the workhouse may have been the grandchild of another prince. Time to check by Hanover books!!

Gonegrey31 · 28/01/2019 10:35

A book I can really recommend is "Princes at War" by Deborah Cadbury. The family drama of the Royal Princes against the backdrop of the war.
Entertaining and informative, I was gripped by it. All sorts of insights particularly into the Duchess of Windsor (who my late mother in law used to play bridge with in the Bahamas during the war, wish I had asked her more about those sessions!)

Clionba · 28/01/2019 10:39

Wow!! I would love to have spoken to your late mother in law! I've read many books on Wallis and Edward and find them endlessly fascinating. Did you watch "Spying on the Royals" on C4?

TotallyAnonymousUsername · 28/01/2019 10:50

Loving the biography recommendations. I can see this thread is going to cost me money on books as well as clothes.

Pinterest offered me this little comparison article of royals wearing the same clothes, in lieu of any new outfits: www.countryliving.com/life/news/g4913/royals-wearing-same-outfit/

SenecaFalls · 28/01/2019 11:52

Antonia Fraser's biography of Charles II is also good.

That's a great link but not all the photos downloaded Sad
I love DOC in the sparkly Erdem

The Cartier exhibition is on until the end of the month. There were only 2 tiaras, only one of which is diamonds. I went with a friend & we enjoyed it but we live in London & then went to a couple of other jewelry shops (where we didn’t spend anything).

CreakyBlinder · 28/01/2019 15:25

Kate and Wills are in my hood tomorrow apparently.

I'm not going to go, I'm too much of a republican to go and wave at them. I'll just check out the outfits online later Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/01/2019 15:25

William and Kate are visiting Scotland tomorrow to open the V&A Dundee. I'm guessing she'll wear a coat dress as it'll be chilly up there!

Hairydilemma · 28/01/2019 15:45

WhatKateWore has a poll of her 2018 coats: whatkatewore.com/2019/01/28/its-poll-time-kates-coats-in-2018-a-lacorine-update/

In case you fancy a look back and a vote Smile

Wetdogloveshubert · 28/01/2019 15:59

Thanks for the link Hairy, I went for the Alexander McQueen - it was so glam, but in an appropriate way. The berry coat from Christmas seems to be winning though.

There's snow forecast - it'll give them a lovely backdrop if it does in Dundee tomorrow.

Iwantdaffodils · 28/01/2019 16:15

CreakyBlinder I can walk to the V&A from my house!

I wouldn't go to see them either, too embarrassing, but although I hardly ever post on here I like to see the clothes.

Shame they weren't here today; it's cold but lovely and sunny.

queenofarles · 28/01/2019 17:18

kate's headbands are catching on,
Duchess of Huescar wore one, I'm now lusting after them.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/01/2019 17:24

Now she really does look like Anne Boleyn!

OP posts:
bentneckwine1 · 28/01/2019 17:35

I am in Dundee and they only announced this visit this afternoon but not given a time.

It is completely different from when the queen came two years ago there was much more detail as to where and when she would be places.

It's strange how short notice this is - I had hoped to go down but far too cold to hang around all day waiting.

Iwantdaffodils · 28/01/2019 17:50

Afternoon, according to the Courier website. Maybe they'll have more information tomorrow.

bentneckwine1 · 28/01/2019 17:59

I just saw that thanks.

We knew weeks in advance about the queen's visit and there was a nice sized crowd.

It will be interesting to see how many people are there with only 24hrs notice.
