Right I have my answer as to what late wore under the much discussed tartan coat dress. A black shift dress.

I've read that HM and PM were conceived via artificial insemination as Bertie had troubles in that area (so did David, apparently). The QM never looked at a turkey baster the same way again! And of course there were also the stories that the Bowes-Lyon cook acted as a surrogate for her parents and gave birth to her and her younger brother.

Alas the only links I can find re the stories in my previous post come courtesy of the ever-reliable lady Colin Campbell! But I can remember reading similar stories as far back as the late 90s, so she hasn't made them up herself.

A poster on one of the earlier threads did say their grandmother or probably great Aunt? worked at Glamis and indeed there was a disabled boy living there, and it was known as the QM's. Could it be that the child was born prematurely and was believed to not survive past infancy/early childhood ?

Yes I remember that, although that was the story I thought might've been confused with the alleged Monster of Glamis.

Going back a few comments, presumably CP Mary wore uniform because that was the dress code, not what she 'chose' to wear.

Interesting. No tights ( in January!) and legs smeared in a sort of body oil.

Could be shiny tights and if they are then she's definitely been watching this thread and gone for Faulke! She looks lovely and has such a glow about her. I'm normally not a fan of that shade of pink but she looks like she has a bit of a tan (slipped away to Mustique maybe?) so it looks great on her.

I'm liking her hair! Much smarter than her usual messy bun. Like the outfit too, I'd say an all round win today.
