Are these mum boots?

And does it mean they're uncool?

What's the cool boot style nowadays?

Need it for work and general merriment.

Dunno but for me they are the wrong side of cool.
But if you like them...

Teamdixon · 23/01/2019 08:09

I think it's the combination of a Cuban heal and a platform that makes those look a bit odd - normally you would have one or the other.

IfNotNowThenWhy · 23/01/2019 08:12

Dunno about mum boots, and I know the 90s are back in, but I think they are so ugly, sorry! I have an irrational dislike for Cuban heels though .

FlamingJuno · 23/01/2019 08:15

I've never got the Acne love. Their boots always look clunky and uncomfortable to me - and a bit cheap tbh. I don't know if they're "mum boots", they're just a bit meh.

MeetJoeTurquoise · 23/01/2019 08:28

My 20 year old daughter would wear them.

evilharpy · 23/01/2019 08:48

I don't like Acne boots either. They're so popular and I just don't get it.

Racecardriver · 23/01/2019 08:49

No. They are an ironic twist on mum boots. They are platformed mum boots.

TeaAddict235 · 23/01/2019 08:50

No they're not mum boots, but very stylish.
Enjoy

Lauren83 · 23/01/2019 08:50

I like them! Love acne

ElvisParsley · 23/01/2019 08:54

I’m a mum. I wouldn’t wear them, they look ugly and clumpy to me. Not sure whether that means they’re not ‘mum boots’ or that I am desperately uncool.

Imissgmichael · 23/01/2019 09:06

I think it’s just the picture that looks unflattering. They will look completely different on.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 23/01/2019 10:06

Yes, it's the Cuban heel AND platform that throw it off for me. Also the tag on the zip looks cheap ( for some reason untreated leather makes me think cheap). Acne is expensive for what it is, IMO. If you're not already achingly hip they're just going to look clumpy and odd.

CountFosco · 23/01/2019 10:42

Shall we not use 'Mum' as an insult please?

If you mean are these boots unfashionable then I think it depends how you wear them. They are fairly ordinary except for the price.

Mostly covered by bootlegs: deeply unfashionable.
Worn with skinnies: not cool but generally acceptable and ordinary.
Worn with wide legged crops/peg legs/paperbag trousers: fashionable but depending who you mix with may be considered 'weird' by some people.

Nenuco · 23/01/2019 10:46

Sorry @CountFosco, I'm just using a "Mumsnet" term.

I wish I could 'like' your post @CountFosco.

I do get the Acne love generally, but those boots aren't doing it for me.
Disclaimer: I have a slow fashion-adopter eye. They could be ultra cool and I just don't get it yet.

Willowtreecottage · 23/01/2019 11:09

😆 love all the back up ‘mum boots’
references op

Badtasteflump · 23/01/2019 11:24

Not keen - they're a bit frumpy imo and I'm not young! If they were £30 I would say go for it - but they are, what £400? If you're spending that much, make sure you absolutely love those boots so much you don't need to check if they're awful or not!

elQuintoConyo · 23/01/2019 11:24

I don't know if they are 'mumboots' but they're ugly. Blush

NiteFlights · 23/01/2019 12:05

Count Fosco is right, it depends how you wear them, and I think they might be quite difficult to wear without looking either dated or a bit try-hard. I don’t dislike them but they’re sort of neither one thing nor another.

Elledorado · 23/01/2019 12:30

Yes I'm with niteflights and countfosco. I hate the term "mum" used as an insult. The boots are not awful. I wouldn't pay that much for them though.

Ellapaella · 23/01/2019 12:55

They aren't very exciting, standard kind of black boots I'd say. They'd be pretty versatile and go with most things.

Blankscreen · 23/01/2019 12:59

I think if you're a young tall and slim then they won't look unfashionable and will look cool.

They could so easily go wrong and look awful.
It's all very well the 90s being back but if you were around for original 90s I don't think it's going to be a good look

But the. I am always a bit late to the party when it comes to fashion.

mumtobe2019 · 23/01/2019 13:13

Definitely not mum boots - more ironic style mums boots. However, to me these boots are super casual to be worn stomping around cafes at the weekend not in an office environment. My workplace has a casual dress policy but my feet would be aching wearing these all day and they would stink as our heating is cranked up throughout the winter- I just wouldn’t be comfortable wearing these day in day out.
I also think you would be limited in what you could style these boots with as they are too clunky! I’d look for similar boots without the platform - office have a good range at the moment that aren’t as expensive.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 23/01/2019 14:03

Have a look at Vagabond boots.

Butterfly84 · 23/01/2019 14:15

Before I clicked on the link, I was suspecting a slouchy frumpy boot. But they aren't. They're nice but the heel is a bit odd and I definitely would not be paying that much (£400?) for them.
