I live south of Preston and didn't know the charity shops are so good here Shock

When I was a student in London I used to trawl the charity shops in Chiswick etc for bargains and got a lovely Hobbs cardigan that I still wear now Smile

I'm North Herts and am in our high street's charity shops a few times a week. This week's finds:
Air Ambulance shop - 2 polarn o pyret items, a next outfit, sleepsuit and coat for DD, a Next dress and Gap cardigan for me and a waterproof jacket for DS - £7!!!! DD's stuff was 3 for £1.
Garden house hospice - a Cos swing top for £3, White Closet jacket for £4 and Zara top for £3. A White Company sleeping bag for DD - £3.
Our charity shops are quite good and regularly stocked with boden, joules, Zara, coast, fenn wright Manson and Gerry Weber. I once picked up some Cartier hot pink stilettos for a fiver. I love charity shops, kids do too.

I never find clothes in the ones near me but they are a goldmine for toys. 2 days before Xmas OH found a mint condition Mamas and Papas rocking horse for £20 they had a similar one in the shop going for £90

Butterfly84 · 27/01/2019 18:43

@castielchace where are these fab charity shops that you speak of located, if you don't mind me asking? I live in East Midlands and have never found anything as good as that.

castielchace · 29/01/2019 22:01

Butterfly84 ,closer to me are definitely Bingham or Newark though..I did pop into the PDSA as you do yesterday morning in Melton mowbray & found a beautiful pair of derberry boots they was £25 but a flipping bargain as I know they are well over £200 X I would have bought them though even if I didn't recognise the make X also bought a set of Sylvanian families for £3 X

Butterfly84 · 30/01/2019 13:04

@castielchace wow! Thank you. Those places are a good half an hour away from me but may be worth a trip just for the charity shops.

A former colleague of mine lived in a very posh Surrey town and their branch of Cancer Research was phenomenal. She would come in with a new cashmere cardigan at least once a month and all I could think of is "who is this woman giving away all these amazing clothes??"

Last thing I bought was a jug in the pattern of china we had growing up. Ridiculous really as I have many jugs (almost a collection...) but, then again, yes: it did spark joy actually.

Doonut84 · 31/01/2019 19:18

Dontcallme I think I used to live there - I picked up loads of LK Bennett, Whistles, Reiss, Jigsaw, MaxMara, Hugo Boss etc clothes, some brand new with tags and others in immaculate condition.
I asked the sales assistant and she said the same lady donated it all - she was a regular donor apparently, and luckily the same size as me Grin

I do wonder who she is, I wondered if perhaps she worked in the fashion industry and got free samples of clothes? Otherwise I couldn’t understand who would be giving brand new expensive clothes away?! Or maybe she’s rich and famous?!

I’ve moved away now and my new town has some charity shops which get great stock too but I find they are pretty savvy about brands now and will price top brands high so you can’t grab a mega-bargain these days. In particular the Cancer Research shop seems to price quite high . I know they are trying to make money for charity but it puts customers off buying. In recent weeks I’ve seen a Reiss dress from around 2009/2010 (I know it was from then as I actually had that dress myself!) in average condition for £20 and a French Connection dress which I actually picked up but put back when I saw the £20-odd price tag.

However I did pick up some Wolford faux leather leggings for an absolute bargain price - I guess maybe they didn’t realise how much they are brand new

Moominfan · 02/02/2019 17:49

Picked up a lovely lambs wool jumper and pure cotton T-shirt today, 2.50 for both. Got lo a waterproof coat and a brand new next jacket for 1.50 each.

pouraglasshalffull · 03/02/2019 16:30

I live in Sheffield and the ones on Ecclesall Rd where all the students live often have nice stuff in them and the ones in Nether Edge if anyone also lives nearby.

fashiondevotee · 03/02/2019 18:48

Found a Me + Em merino wool jumper yesterday! £7 :)

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2019 19:21

Karen Mullen jumper £6.50
Boden cashmere jumper £4.50
Banana republic leather skirt £12
Prada handbag £130

Bluesheep8 · 04/02/2019 07:51

Brand new with box and tags grey/taupe Ugg sheepskin earmuffs which are also headphones for £20. Apparently they retail at about £100.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 05/02/2019 14:31

Today I picked up a Windsmoor full length coat in wool/cashmere blend - it's charcoal grey with a silver grey astrakhan collar. It was too big really, but will fit when I move the buttons over and I like the slightly oversized look of it. It appears unworn and cost me £30. When I got home I found a £20 note in the pocket! I will return to the shop to donate the money to them next week.

I also got a brand new Pink shirt, in blue cotton for £5.99.

Doonut84 · 07/02/2019 16:57

just picked up a MaxMara 100% silk top for £7.50

Picked up and put back a Jigsaw dress (£20), Reiss shirt (£15) and Cashmere jumper (£15) as felt they were all more than I was prepared to pay.
Think whoever priced the MaxMara top was maybe not familiar with the brand
