People we need names of regions here! Towns and villages!!!!

Grin

Went for a job interview one dark and stormy November of late and found 2 leather Jaeger handbags in Newcastle in a British heart Foundation along a lane near to the train station (in case anyone is wondering by). The shop assistant had only just brought it out, bless her. I have kept one, it is a saddle bag and oh so beautiful. And I gave the other one to my mum. It was much bigger and a Mary Jane kind of bag.

Didn't get the job, but every cloud had a silver lining.

LinoleumBlownapart · 23/01/2019 12:25

I found an old rotary phone for £1 and in a thrift store in the USA an old radio for $5. Both of which are worth a fortune.
I miss charity shops, they don't exist in Brazil Sad

LinoleumBlownapart · 23/01/2019 12:30

The charity shop was in London. I didn't sell them either, they are both here still and loved by DH, who prefers old technology.

I'm going for a good rummage tomorrow. Dedicating a whole afternoon to it and I can't wait.

Lemonyfuckit · 24/01/2019 20:15

My best ever charity shop find - and I apologise for being extremely smug - was a gorgeous pair of Manolo Blahnik black high heels, pristine condition, in EXACTLY my size - ie 3.5, fit like a glove - £50. Had popped in to drop a bag of old stuff off, wasn't even looking for anything, but there they were, just sitting there.....

5FullFathoms · 24/01/2019 20:20

I’ve had lots of bargains over the years. But in the last couple of weeks I’ve bought a FatFace blazer for £2, a Ghost cardigan for £1, a Hollister cardigan for £1 and a Jack Wills jumper for £3. It’s been a good few weeks!

rockingthelook · 24/01/2019 20:52

sugarbum they are lush, so jealous, I would be looking at them all the time and stroking them!
My bargain finds were a beautifully soft Burberry scarf for £1, a pair of snowboots for £4 and a Ted Baker Dress for £3, just love charity shops, rarely buy anything new now, however, I do give them a lot too, a good way of recycling your stuff that will help others, even if they sell things on for rags, it's money raised?

evilharpy · 24/01/2019 20:55

Today:

Faith black suede slouchy knee high boots for £5

Ralph Lauren blue and white oversized shirt, a bit Meghan Markle at Wimbledon Grin £4

Dorothy Perkins dress £3

Sainsburys coat £4.50, looks very expensive, I thought itnwas going to be from somewhere like Reiss till I saw the label

Craftycorvid · 24/01/2019 21:09

Love a good charity shop thread! I’m a bit of a charity shop fiend. Have had some fab’ things over the years: hot pink and grey houndstooth check vintage wool coat for about a fiver, brand new Burberry trench coat; Indian tapestry coat. Usually I get lots of Fat Face/White Stuff/Joules, plus Toast and Oska. One of my local hunting grounds regularly gets new ends of ranges and stock clearance from brands like Joe Browns and Sahara. I live in Yorkshire and would suggest polishing your elbows and getting along to: Wetherby, Ilkley, Otley and Todmorden. I visit Gloucestershire quite a bit and would highly recommend Cirencester and Nailsworth for some good finds.

evilharpy · 24/01/2019 21:17

Craftycorvid Cirencester is brilliant. And not usually priced as highly as you might expect.

percheron67 · 24/01/2019 21:28

Hello - I am going to Bath at the weekend - can anyone recommend any particular charity shops there, please? Thank you.

weebarra · 24/01/2019 21:32

Today I found a gorgeous Mint Velvet top for £5 and a Polarn dress for DD for £1.

Livpool · 24/01/2019 21:37

Hugo Boss Boots for my DS (he is 3) for £2. They are bright blue so he loves them

SinceYouAskMe · 24/01/2019 21:43

Not much for me recently but 2 Jack Wills checked shirts for teen DD and another one from Hollister. About a fiver each, but the JW ones really are very good quality - they stand out a mile amongst her normal Primark and H&M. And DS has just grown into a fantastic vintage rugby shirt that was BNWT for a couple of quid in Save the Children a couple of years ago.

Pinkroseuk · 24/01/2019 23:11

There's never anything like this in my local
Charity shops! Last visit they had very worn primark t shirts for £4 each!

Moominfan · 25/01/2019 15:19

Got a lovely red herring dress for 1.50 today and some mega blocks for toddler for 3quid

Moominfan · 25/01/2019 15:19

Wish I had more time but had toddler in town

TeaAddict235 · 26/01/2019 11:48

@Moominfan that's my bugbear too. You have to do a sweep stake and go when you have a toddler with you.

I wish that they had a toy play area in those shops so that the toddler could be occupied

ThanksForAllTheFish · 26/01/2019 12:27

My most recent best bargains. I got myself a beautiful mustard yellow Jigsaw jumper for £3.50. It is the exact shade I was looking for, fits perfectly and is nice and warm but not chunky. It’s my favourite jumper at the moment. It did have a very small hole on the seam under the arm but I fixed it in 5 seconds with a few stitches.

I also bought my mum a pair of country boots for £7. The suede and leather waterproof tall boots. They looked like they had been worn maybe once and perhaps not fitted the person properly as they are quite snug on the calf area. These boots cost £140 new. My mum has horses so she will get plenty of use out of them. Her last pair died before Christmas and she hasn’t had a spare £140 to replace them so she was over the moon when I showed up with her new boots last week.

I have bought quite a few other bits and pieces recently, mainly warm jumpers and a nice long fat face cardigan (£3) that was also in perfect condition. I’ve been lucky this month. I think a lot of people are clearing out wardrobes as it’s January as my local charity shops are bursting at the seams at the moment. A couple have signs up saying they can’t take in anymore donations.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 26/01/2019 12:31

weebarra - the charity shop beside my work had the most gorgeous mint velvet silk dress yesterday. If it wasn’t a size 10 I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

Babelange · 26/01/2019 12:58

When Ds1 was in primary school I realised he had lost his Pe shorts at the weekend with a pair needed for Monday - during term time so no supermarket bargains to be had. There's an expensive uniform shop in our village and before popping in there I went to the local charity shop and found a pair in his size for 50p. There was also a pack of Pe socks also for 50p - lasted years unlike the other newer ones in other colours.
I was invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace as a guest of Barnardos - the dress I wanted to wear was sleeveless and it was too hot to wear a cardigan - before rushing into the local town centre to panic buy something I popped into the local Barnardos in the village in the other direction and picked up the perfect light black jacket from Zara for £5 - probably saved me £95!
I am afraid preciously meagre pickings since!
Is it a karma thing Grin?

TeaAddict235 · 26/01/2019 13:02

Did you get anything good @RHOF ?

That's my girl @Craftycorvid, we need names and places. Find this Shazza bunch a bit sly myself. Keeping stumm about the best finds Wink

If you are in Bedfordshire, or near to Buckinghamshire, Marlow and Henley are good stops, especially for kids stuff. In central London near to Brompton park tube station is a hidden gem of a Shazza shop. It kept me affordably suited and booted in leather goods whilst studying. Praise be.

Moominfan · 26/01/2019 14:37

Picked up a cashmere scarf today for 50p and got toddler a leather look next jacket, pants and a top for 1quid. I find kids stuff so hit and miss, I've donated items to some stores that they've tried to sell for more than what I paid. One I went to today just chucked them all in a bucket 3 for a quid

LanaorAna2 · 26/01/2019 20:29

Oasis charity shop in Clapham Old Town is one of London's true hidden gems. Not only is the stuff very posh and very cheap, with two floors to prowl, the shop's at the edge of the park in the lovely Georgian square.

You can have a coffee and gloat over your new buys afterwards, perfect. I did exactly that with a new Jigsaw silk dress for 7 quid that had 180 on its label today, while my mate got two cashmere cardigans for a tenner the pair.

wildthingsinthenight · 26/01/2019 21:46

A vintage Harrods pure wool tweed coat. Blue and grey. £18
So chuffed with it!
