Why are my bras going this to me (pictures attached)

My bras are so uncomfortable! They dig in and make awful marks around me.

I ve been fitted by bravissimo and wear fantasie bras. They are a 34G and I’m a size 18.

They are cutting in and giving me sores. I itch along the redness during the day.

Whenever I mention about having a 36 band instead they always say it’s too big for me. I can turn the bra around on me on the 34s that I have.

Surely bras are not suppose to make this much redness on you?

I'm a 12 and wear a 34.

They are cutting you in half op. You aren't a 34.

BakerBear · 20/01/2019 21:33

So I should be wearing a 40 bra??

Never had a bra bigger than a 36. Why on earth are they saying I’m a 34 in the shop?

Gogreen · 20/01/2019 21:34

If your 42 then you can’t be a 34??

Orangesox · 20/01/2019 21:37

In theory you should be a 40. But it does depend on the fabrics etc too. I get the exact same type of sores if I wear a bra too big in the back, as well as some brands that just seem to move about more thus causing the irritation. I’m a size 22 currently and wear a 38k in most brands, but sometimes need a 36kk or 40JJ depending on the fit Blush

BakerBear · 20/01/2019 21:37

I ve never measured under my rib cage until now. Tonight is the first time.

Bravissimo never use a tape measure either.

I need to go bra shopping

I'm a 34 HH at bravissimo and have the same. I just bought 2x 36H in the sales and they aren't any better after 2 weeks. I think it's friction rather than tight if you know what I mean? I have started wearing cotton wool tucked under the bra and that seems to be helping.

InfiniteCurve · 20/01/2019 21:40

The "Anita" bra size calculator thinks you are a 42 H.
Even if it's a bit out that's still very different to what you are wearing!

madcatladyforever · 20/01/2019 21:40

I am between sizes so I buy strap extenders and now my bras are much more comfortable.
I prefer the etsy ones as they are better made and so much softer.

Bravissimo are known for this OP. They try to
Get everyone to size down a few back sizes. Fuck knows why 🤷‍♀️

Scubalubs87 · 20/01/2019 21:44

I agree that a 34 doesn’t sound right. I’m a size 10/12 at the moment and I’m currently a 34E When I’m a size 8 I wear a 32. It seems like that back size is far too tight for your measurements hence the digging in. Bras need to fit well but they shouldn’t be that uncomfortable.

myrtleWilson · 20/01/2019 21:45

you should be a 40G but I think I'd start with a 38 FF and see if thats better..

ShatnersBassoon · 20/01/2019 21:45

Obviously there's some variation in cut between brands and styles of bras, but they're knocking three sizes off your measurement. It's like buying jeans in a 12 instead of an 18 (roughly 6" difference on the waist) then wondering why you're getting sore around your waistband.

Crustaceans · 20/01/2019 21:46

I always find bravissimo try to stick me in a 30 rather than a 28. But the 30 is too bloody big. I think it’s because there is more choice in a 30 back.

borntobequiet · 20/01/2019 21:49

I’m size 14 and very comfortable in 38B Triumph Amourette, which I’ve worn for ages. I have a broad-ish back, but I look quite slim. Most people are surprised I’m a 14. A 34 bra would be very uncomfortable.

treaclesoda · 20/01/2019 21:49

Bravissimo are buggers for flattering women into buying smaller back sizes and bigger cups.

I don't understand how that's flattering? Surely no one wants to be a huge cup size. Flattering would be telling everyone they are a bigger back size and a dainty cup size surely.

However, leaving that aside, if the OP measures 42 round the ribs then I can see why a 34 is far too tight.

borntobequiet · 20/01/2019 21:49

I don’t mean the same bra for ages, but the same size...

BirdieInTheHand · 20/01/2019 21:50

I'm a 10/12 and wear a 34 back. I've got a bit of fat round my rib cage and the band can dig in and leave marks by end of day.

I'd say your bra is far too tight looking at your marks.

treaclesoda · 20/01/2019 21:51

I wear a size 16 on top and my bras are all 32s, except for one which is a 30. If I got a 34 the back band would be up round my neck, it would be agony.

Hazardswans · 20/01/2019 21:56

Try taking an antihistamine? If your allergic to something it'll help and if it does help you know it's an allergy.

MotherOfDragonite · 20/01/2019 21:57

Try a supportive bra without underwire, like a Molke. I have never looked back! I am so much more comfortable!

Sipperskipper · 20/01/2019 21:59

Bravissimo are all about a smaller band and bigger cup, from my experience. I found the bras very uncomfortable and tight when I bought them there. They said I was a 34 GG, but I’m wearing a 38GG from M&S today which is 1000x comfier. Looks good too.

I would definitely go for a bigger band size.

SaturdayNext · 20/01/2019 22:00

If you're 40 round the rib cage, it's pretty amazing that you can even do up a size 34 bra. You need to be properly measured somewhere other than Bravissimo.

messyhousetidymind · 20/01/2019 22:01

Try m and s smoothlines on

ILoveChristmasLights · 20/01/2019 22:03

Do you wear your bra more than once before washing it?

I can’t, if I do I end up very sore underneath. One wear and it gets washed.
