Why are my bras going this to me (pictures attached)

My bras are so uncomfortable! They dig in and make awful marks around me.

I ve been fitted by bravissimo and wear fantasie bras. They are a 34G and I’m a size 18.

They are cutting in and giving me sores. I itch along the redness during the day.

Whenever I mention about having a 36 band instead they always say it’s too big for me. I can turn the bra around on me on the 34s that I have.

Surely bras are not suppose to make this much redness on you?

I'm a size 10 and wear a 34, you must need a bigger size. Those sores aren't normal.

goingtotown · 20/01/2019 22:06

I would take the bra back to Bravissimo & show them the pictures.

Pollaidh · 20/01/2019 22:06

I'd recommend trying Marie Jo. Most comfortable bras I've ever owned, enough that I went back and bought more of the Avero, despite the price. They look really good too, style wise and also some manage to make me uplifted (without squishing) and, somehow, less busy (36 D/DD)

FloofenHoofen · 20/01/2019 22:06

scratchbass if you're a size 10 then you are not a 36 back.

OP, the band might be the right fit, I say might as I've had lots of experience with bravissimo and there's only been one occasion where I felt the band was far too tight but going up a size would have been too loose.

What I will say is that it looks like you have a fungal infection, and wearing bras (no matter what band size) will create itchiness simply because it's thriving on the dark and sweat that comes with wearing a bra (especially if you're particularly large busted)

What I suggest you do is go Asda, find a cheap material non wired bra, the type of bra which is more of a comfort bra, and get a large size. It doesn't need to fit amazingly well, it just needs to let your skin breathe.

The wires pressing on your skin and your sweat is the issue here.
You can further help by using a baby nappy cream, something like metanium would be best.

AngryAttackKittens · 20/01/2019 22:08

Those bras is too tight for you! If the 36s don't offer enough support after a couple of washes you may be washing them in water that's too warm. I'd also suggest checking out different brands and styles, as some have firmer bands than others.

Missingstreetlife · 20/01/2019 22:11

Try cotton. Evans do a sleep bra which is comfy

sulflower · 20/01/2019 22:11

I'm a size 10/12 and wear a 34. I'm not surprised you have welts, they look really painful. The last time I got measured and bought a bra in Bravissimo it was shit, useless and uncomfortable. I wish I'd taken it back.

disappointedyetagain · 20/01/2019 22:11

Use the calculator then get to a large department store or M&S and try as many bras on as you can. Different styles can come up different sizes even with the same brand.

Wear a plain t-shirt so you can gauge the right shape for yourself.

In the meantime, the advice about Dettol laundry cleanser is great and a dusting of Scholl Athlete's Foot powder after showering will help keep the skin dry and get rid of the fungal infection it looks like you have.

M&S and Asda do those step-in/pull-over bras for lounging around or sleeping in. Sudocrem in the creases and on the sore spots under one of these will help, but use the powder after showering to dry the skin completely so you can get rid of the fungus first. These bras look tiny but can be squeezed into with a bit of effort. Use two at the same time for more support.

If you're very sore, try wearing one or a very light vest under a normal, but slightly bigger than usual bra for a bit.

Get rid of those too small bras!

AngryAttackKittens · 20/01/2019 22:11

I don't understand how that's flattering? Surely no one wants to be a huge cup size. Flattering would be telling everyone they are a bigger back size and a dainty cup size surely.

Not everyone aspires to have small breasts...

rytonsister · 20/01/2019 22:14

I don't think your necessarily a 40 back but agree with perhaps a fungal infection.

Get to a doctors. Treat and then try one back size up.

AngryAttackKittens · 20/01/2019 22:16

Agreed, you need to wear something loose and soft until your skin heals up.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 20/01/2019 22:23

Size 8/10 here, and mostly a 32/34 size, depending on shop. I'm always told how narrow my shoulders & back are. The only bra I've ever had a problem with was an M&S one with underwiring that could have passed as barbed wire, but that was more down to frippery additions than sizing.

I'd try another shop OP - because any bra that leaves welts like that is not a bra for you.

BakerBear · 20/01/2019 22:28

I wear a bra for 2-3 days.

Will buy a fungal cream tomorrow

Fucking hell. If you're a size 18, a 38DD would be nearer the correct size.

Ollivander84 · 20/01/2019 22:35

40 and 48 gives a 40FF. Try that and a 38F and see

I'm a 14-16 and wear a 32/34 but my underbust measures 35

Titsywoo · 20/01/2019 23:32

I'm a size 18 and measure 38 under the bust and 44 over it. I wear a 38d or sometimes 36e depending on style. A 34 band would be agony. Try wearing something soft like the m&s supersoft range until your skin heals then stick to your correct size. No less than 38 for your band size!

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 20/01/2019 23:51

I'm a 34G & wear a size 10 or 12. I'd suggest getting fitted else where as it seems too tight

Nighttimenope · 20/01/2019 23:57

I don’t have sores like this but I have red sore marks every day from my bra, on my shoulders and all around my ribcage. I have fitted by myself and come up with the same sizing as Bravissimo for me. I think the problem is my boobs. I am small of frame with ouppy fat and large, heavy droopy boobs. To support them enough to put them ‘back in place’, I need a snug band. Because I have a slight frame with some puppy fat, that’s going to dig in because it’s contending with a fair amount of weight. I still use the straps as partial support as no band can ever be that strong! Hence red marks on my shoulders. Going up a back size would take away my support and give me back problems. I accept that a different shaped bra (very wide straps, very thick band and no underwiring) may let me avoid this, but I’ve never seen one and I can only afford one normal priced bravissimo bra a year as it is. I just think my shape doesn’t allow for comfort in bras and I try and rest the redness using loose bras a couple of days a week.
I’m a size 10 and wear a 30 FF. I was a 32 E pre kids and size 8.

Nat6999 · 21/01/2019 00:24

I'm a size 20/22 & 40GG bra size, I have had to give up wearing normal bras as I suffer from Fibromyalgia & ME/CFS, they cause me too much pain, I can only wear crop top & sports bras as any other kind even if the correct size leave me with deep red welts & make me feel as if my ribs are in a vice.

StarlightLady · 21/01/2019 01:50

The bra fitter has it wrong. I would suggest going up a back size. But in doing so, go back for another fitting and show her what you have shown us.

Finally, when you are not going out, have a few braless evenings so your body can have a rest from the cutting in.

CountFosco · 21/01/2019 05:42

I think you need to deal with the pain before worrying about your bra size. What do you use to wash your bras? You may be reacting to that.

Otherwise I agree with everyone about treating what look like a fungal infection.

Monty27 · 21/01/2019 05:48

OP clearly they don't fit or you are allergic to something in them or they have shrunk.
You need to get a new bra

LizzieSiddal · 21/01/2019 05:50

That’s just awful, I’d complain to Bravissimo if I were you, there’s no way you can be a 34, and their incompetence is causing you to develop sores.

I’d go back, taking all the bras you have form there, show them your sores and tell them you’d like to exchange the bras for ones which actually fit you.

SoupOnMyTableNowSir · 21/01/2019 06:16

Bravissimo measured me at a 32F but I can't breathe in that bra, so I wear M&S 34E.

Some of them are the comfiest bras I have ever worn and some are uncomfortable at the end of the day at the front digging into my ribs. So I wear those if I only need it for the morning, then I can change into a soft sports bra which gives me monoboob but no-one is here to see in the day.

I think the material plays a huge part, I can't wear lacy bras, I wear the really soft ones, either cotton rich or Sumptuously soft ones.

Definitely try another bra. Also I used to always have to fasten mine at the front and then slide it round to the back but the fabric caused irritation so now I just fasten it at the back but without my arms in, it seems easier that way.

Baxdream · 21/01/2019 07:29

I'm a 10/12 and I'm a 34. In the kindest way I can't see how you can be a 34. It looks sore!
