Completely missed the ball with the previous thread so hope this thread is easy enough to find!

😱

Spudlet · 20/01/2019 20:23

I myself am having a G&T in honour of the QM and also of living in an era which doesn't make me feel I should have all my hair shorn off and put into a perm at the age of 35 in preparation for my impending dotage😱

I don't know what Kate has had done to her hair but I'll have what she's having! I always feel the need to visit thr bair products aisle after seeing photos of that hair - if she was allowed to advertise shampoo, L'Oreal would be all over it.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 20/01/2019 20:43

Kate could just have a fabulous hairdresser. My hair is lank & thin, but when I have a professional blow dry I look almost like a goddess Grin

Jiggins · 20/01/2019 21:06

Interesting thread on Twitter about how they hastened George V's end along so that the death announcement would be in the morning's Times rather than the lesser Evening Standard. Regicide must be implemented to avoid common afternoon papers getting the scoop Grin

Morphine and cocaine speedball. What a way to go out!

OlennasWimple · 20/01/2019 21:26

So all those silky tie front blouses in The Fall were basically an audition piece for The Crown?

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 20/01/2019 21:32

That’s been said before Jiggins

VamillaSugar · 20/01/2019 21:40

Gillian Anderson will be brilliant.

I have a fabulous hair thickening tonic which I spray onto damp hair. My hair is much thicker and bouncier with a decent blow dry and heated rollers.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 20/01/2019 21:49

Getting good quality whitening and dentistry would be the absolute first thing on my to do list if I had the money. My teeth aren't terrible but excellent teeth massively change someone's overall impact I think. It's definitely a a big part of Kate's general very polished look these days.

Clionba · 20/01/2019 22:00

Absolutely. Kate had her teeth done a little while before the official engagement, great work.

AhoyDelBoy · 20/01/2019 22:07

I find this thing about earlier generations ageing faster so interesting for some reason (I’m sure we touched on it in an earlier thread but may be mistaken).

My GM, who would’ve been about 65 when I was born in 1984, was a ‘little old lady’ then. Grey hair in the style of HMQ and skirts and blouses. I doubt she ever wore jeans, tbh I don’t think I ever saw her in trousers!

It’s funny because nowadays I don’t think 65 is old at all! My neighbour is 65, we went to the party, and he is still out playing table tennis and football.

My GM had false teeth at 17 Shock though. Times were different I suppose. Clionba I have been saying for a few years now that I’d like all my teeth extracted and falsies instead Grin. Can you comment on why a dentist wouldn’t do this Angry (teeth are fine I suppose but the few bouts of toothache I’ve had are enough for me!). And yes I know this isn’t the purpose of he thread, sorrybin advance all Crown

Clionba · 20/01/2019 22:15

Don't do it, Ahoy! It's actually quite a risky procedure. You could have a whitening treatment and some invisalign, if it's shape and colour. You can have some implants or a bridge if the teeth are bad or very unsightly.

Clionba · 20/01/2019 22:17

Also great teeth : Sophie. Very nice shape and natural.

Spudlet · 20/01/2019 22:31

I'm veering towards not so much extensions as a damn good blowdry, to be honest. And strongly considering buying some velcro rollers Grin

I also think part of Kate's polish is her makeup - she's a hell of a lot better at applying it now and she wears quite a bit. If you scroll down to the pic where they talk about her earrings here (whatkatewore.com/2019/01/15/kate-in-dubarry-and-chloe-for-garden-visit-the-designing-duchess/#more-56966) you also get quite a good look at her makeup.

Partly I think that's an age and experience thing (remember that eyeliner?) - I'm definitely a lot better now than I was at 20, I know what I like and what suits me. Partly it's having access to whatever products and as many lessons or even makeup artists as she wants - no cutprice mascara for Kate. (Although I doubt she has someone do her face for every engagement - the cost would surely be huge and it would be bound to leak).

Also, she wears more makeup than the women around her (I mean, how many people would do a full face before going to a gardening project? I wouldn't!) and does so regularly, so by comparison she will always look more polished than women who have either gone for their normal makeup or who have perhaps tried to up the game but have been there for ages waiting or aren't used to doing their makeup like that as a standard thing.

Obviously she knows she'll be in all the photos and has every reason to want to be well-presented so this isn't a criticism - just an observation / opinion.

frugalkitty · 20/01/2019 22:42

Adding to the looking your age (or not) chat, I've just seen on IG that Mathilde of Belgium is 46 today....now that's only eighteen months older than me but I'd have said she was in her fifties. Admittedly I'm not very good at guessing age, but I was actually quite shocked that she's basically the same age as me.

I have hair like Kate, not as long though, and if I ever win the lottery I'm having someone wash and blow dry my hair every morning. Also, someone to change the sheets on my bed every single day Grin

frugalkitty · 20/01/2019 22:47

I should say that I'm not being mean about thinking Mathilde looks older than she is, just that I'm surprised we're almost the same age. But then I don't have to dress formally which is similar to the discussions we've had a lot of about Kate and her tendency to dress older/MOTB for formal stuff.

UrsulaPandress · 20/01/2019 22:53

Good make up makes so much difference. DD, like lots of young women, is shit hot with make up and she graces me with a 'face' on the rare occasions I 'go out'. I look 100% better than if I'd slapped on a bit of tutty as is my norm.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/01/2019 22:56

@frugalkitty Mathilde has looked 50 from the age of 25 and I suspect she'll still look 50 when she's 70!

Thanks for responding Clionba. I definitely need a whitening treatment. I was fortunate enough to have braces as a teen (paid for by aforementioned GM who noticed how crooked my teeth were when we were eating a rare treat of KFC one day Grin).

I need to take better care of my teeth. Really the only reason I want dentures is because I hate toothache (don’t we all), stupid I know!

On Kate’s hair.. it’s seriously lush 😍 I love it. I wonder what she will do as she gets older. I can’t imagine we will see her with grey curls like HMQ. But then long hair can start to look strange on much older women, maybe that’s a societal thing. I don’t like hair like her DMs would suit her either, too short for someone with the body and bounce she has. Will be interesting to see.

AhoyDelBoy · 20/01/2019 23:05

I don’t think

AhoyDelBoy · 20/01/2019 23:07

Well frugalkitty if you move to America you can have it blowdried everyday. Apparently it’s quite the norm over there. I think Seneca was saying this (or was it Supermum Grin)

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/01/2019 23:13

I think things like blowdries and manicures are pretty cheap stateside @AhoyDelBoy. I remember paying just $20 for one in New York. Though supermum probably gets the hairdresser to come to her house and gets it done sitting in one of her two kitchens while Prince Harry pops in to use the downstairs loo...

Balloondog · 20/01/2019 23:13

@VamillaSugar would you mind sharing a link or the name of the thickening product you use please? It sounds like it might help rescue my increasingly thinning mop; I'd certainly give it a go!

Jiggins · 20/01/2019 23:18

Manicures and blowdrys (or blowouts as I believe they call them) are seen as basic self care in parts of America. I think manicures are increasingly seen that way here too. Nail salons seem to have exploded over every high street in the UK over the past five years.

Tortycat · 20/01/2019 23:22

i cant screenshot the photo, but Sophies make up on the second picture on the last Sophie link looks awful. She's got the orange face and chest, but white neck look. Makes me think they must do their own make up except for special occasions
