Completely missed the ball with the previous thread so hope this thread is easy enough to find!

I’ll have to google to see if Kate ever wears jodhpurs

I doubt it. It seems she's outdoorsy but not horsey like Zara or the Manners sisters etc.

@OlennasWimple As it's her birthday I think we can let Michelle be an honorary royal for the day! That montage misses one of her best gowns - an incredible rose-gold Versace.

Very worrying for the family. Shock is quite dangerous and the thought of what could have happened. I really hope PP is ok. Does he ever drive HMQ around? I thought he did. Sad times.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/01/2019 11:47

The Queen must be in bits.
I know if my dad rolled in his car, I’d be beside myself and he said” only” 78.

Rhubarbisevil · 18/01/2019 11:50

I’ve been misquoted. This is what I actually wrote:
I’ll have to google to see if Kate ever wears jodhpur boots.

I doubt she’d wear jodhpurs. Quite possibly she might wear low short boots.

Bloominglovely · 18/01/2019 11:59

I've been misquoted.

That was me originally Rhubarb, I can't quote (or at least figure out how to quote) while on my phone and usually have to type the full thing out again so have a habit of shortening it. Apologies!

MakeItAmazing · 18/01/2019 12:00

If this accident happened and one driver wasn't Prince Philip then it probably won't make the news. The point is it made the bulletins because it was the Duke so it's not that the other car passengers aren't important enough. Jmo.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 18/01/2019 12:40

Just to continue the PP crash sidetrack (sorry):

What occurred to me is what the chain of events are post crash, esp. if there wasn't someone official with him. Someone would have called emergency services and then what? They turn up and realise it's a really senior royal...can you imagine?!

Bloominglovely · 18/01/2019 13:06

I know tha crash is only in the news because of PP but nevertheless it is in the news nw and there were others involved.

I should add that I’m not unsympathetic to PP. Whatever spin the palace put on it, he is a very elderly man and that crash will have had an effect on him physically with probably broken bones will result in a lot of pain today and mentally he must be very shaken. I guess I just get annoyed that two women and a baby who were involved in the same crash that is being reported were barely mentioned.

itswinetime · 18/01/2019 13:44

I guess I just get annoyed that two women and a baby who were involved in the same crash that is being reported were barely mentioned.

No it is wrong that they seem the most hurt but least mentioned however I will reserve judgment as it is possible the others involved have chosen not to be come forward and give more information to the press time will tell

Spudlet · 18/01/2019 14:03

Yes, that rankles a bit with me too. Obviously that doesn't detract from wishing the DoE all the best as well, it's not his fault that the coverage is as it is.

It's not so much that there isn't lots of information, that is perfectly understandable. It's that in the early stories I read, what little there was was buried 3, 4, 5 paragraphs down - as though they were an afterthought. It would have been better to get that info up at the top alongside the fact the DoE was apparently unhurt, then go off into the detail about the road, the low sun, etc etc. Imo.

That's the media though, not the DoE or the RF.

Cel982 · 18/01/2019 14:35

How they got a 97 year old out of the car is mind boggling.

A bystander pulled him out through the sunroof. He was able to stand and walk normally. He's made of stern stuff, Phil.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/01/2019 14:45

According to reports the first thing he did was to check everyone else was ok.

He will be very sore and in pain today. I’m hoping he is ok.

The car behind pulled him out of the sunroof and then realised who it was. Imagine that! Presumably someone official knows where he is, the cars have trackers don’t they, so would sign back to somewhere that it was crashed? Maybe I’m too far fetched and going along James Bond route.

BlingLoving · 18/01/2019 14:48

I'm normally quick to be annoyed at the media, but actually, I see how this one probably played out.

Initial reports came in via a bystander who would have recognised Philip. There would have been zero information on the other people in the first instance, leading to the initial headlines.

Then the media would have buzzed around getting news on the other passengers/drivers. Which then led to the news that there were two women and a baby, with the driver having a broken wrist.

Philip would have remained the focus of the story as he's the famous one. (in fact, I was pleased at the beginning because if there had been serious injuries, that would have got out quicker and we'd have heard about the others' involved much sooner).

In the news stories I read and heard this morning, the lead was philip, but the other passengers were mentioned immediately afterwards. The baby first (children in accidents is more "compelling" in news), then the two women.

To pop back to fashion - here's the What Kate Wore entry on the Royal Opera House visit.

whatkatewore.com/2019/01/16/kate-brings-back-oscar-de-la-renta-suit-for-royal-opera-house-engagement/#more-56963

If you scroll down, there's an image of the suit as shown on the runway, next to Kate's version. The skirt on the runway version is maybe an inch longer, and I must say I think it looks better for it. Although Kate has amazing legs, the shorter flappy skirts are a bit too girlish, imo. What do you think?

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/01/2019 15:03

That suit would've looked amazing if it was the length of Dior's New Look skirts and I think Kate could've carried it off!

OP posts:
Bloominglovely · 18/01/2019 15:10

I prefer it longer too. Is the runway a different colour or is the colour difference due to the lighting?

I am not a fan of black/opaque tights even though I wear them myself. I remember Trinny and Susannah saying wear anything except black unless you are wearing black. Bare legs are an alternative for only those with good legs. I don’t. Its hard to know what else can be worn without looking like a children’s tv presenter.

Spudlet · 18/01/2019 15:11

She absolutely could, and it would have looked so elegant! She's worn some midi- / tea-length dresses and looked good. There was an amazing red one ages ago - will look for it!

Spudlet · 18/01/2019 15:14

whatkatewore.com/2017/04/04/kate-in-marchesa-notte-statement-earrings-for-42nd-street-opening/#more-46380

Here we go! This length would be a bit too long for a daytime engagement but you can see she carries it off, with her height. She can definitely take a bit more length.

UrsulaPandress · 18/01/2019 15:17

I think it was a tad too short. But then if I had legs like that ...

DarienGap · 18/01/2019 15:20

Spudlet
That red dress on Kate was truly beautiful, one of my favourite looks

Cel982 · 18/01/2019 15:38

Darien, I was just coming on to say that Marchesa Notte is one of my least favourite things she's ever worn Grin

DarienGap · 18/01/2019 15:40

Cel982
Really? I thought she looked stunning.
I wish I could a) afford something like that and b) had the figure for it. 😂

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/01/2019 16:12

That shade of red was perfect on Kate. I doubt we'll see her in Marchesa again though, given the Weinstein connection.

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/01/2019 16:13

Speaking of Kate, she's in Lewisham on Tuesday to launch a family support line. I imagine it's part of her early years initiative.
