Fantastic article @BeverlyGoldberg.
I’m also going to read the articles linked to at the bottom of the page.

I felt that this paragraph summed up the “ issues” certain outlets have with Meghan.

With this in mind, it makes sense that so many people balk when Meghan refuses to bow down to the rules – and that so many people experienced an irrational hatred of her from the very moment she confidently sat down for her engagement interview with Prince Harry. They would have preferred her to bashfully bat away compliments, to let him do all the talking for her, to insist she’s far more mediocre than the world gives her credit for. To be cowed, simpering, and full of self-loathing. To flush red with embarrassment whenever she was asked her opinion on the matter of her impending marriage. To begin every single sentence with an apology.

EatCrisps · 17/01/2019 08:06

The Duchesses have looked amazing the last couple of days. Meghan's evening gown was so glamorous, she was glowing. I could never have worn shoes that high when I was pregnant.

For Kate & Megan their passion in the organisations they are involved in really comes across. It's wonderful to see

EatCrisps · 17/01/2019 08:06

It's great to see some of the media point out the vitriol Meghan is facing, its disgusting

frugalkitty · 17/01/2019 08:13

I agree that pregnancy suits the DoS, and I think her colouring really helps with this. She has such good skin that I think she can carry off any tiredness without it showing in her face (if that makes sense). I suppose I'm saying she has a natural glow about her unlike me whose skin shows up any tiredness or illness straightaway attractive and doesn't need to layer on the slap to try to look presentable, although her make up last night looked lovely.

Interesting article in the DM today about her dress last night being a nod to Diana. They've got pictures of Diana in a sequinned evening dress which clearly means that Meghan is making a statement by 'copying' her....not in a bad way but honestly, I think it's lazy journalism and I'm sure that K and M don't trawl through old photos trying to find outfits they like and can make s nod to. In this case, Diana's dress had a different neckline, different sleeves and was a different colour. The only similarity was the sequins. Silly, lazy article.

whydoineedanickname · 17/01/2019 08:16

The DM has also made a whole article about a scar on her foot and the fact that it could possibly be a bunion scar.

hopeishere · 17/01/2019 08:17

I love the blue dress but she looks very overdressed compared to other people.

AlsoBling2 · 17/01/2019 08:58

It's not just news media. 5 minutes on Twitter or even on here. God.fobid a woman, a royal wife, should have her own way of.doing things.

At first glance I liked.last night's outfit.but as I looked at pictures j went off it a bit. Can't quite say why.

FlyMayBe · 17/01/2019 09:06

Overdressed? She's a duchess attending a premiere at the Royal Albert Hall!

She looks utterly stunning.

Parabolica · 17/01/2019 09:10

The Diana comparisons are so lazy and predictable. Smacks of the usual obsession with shoehorning Diana into everything. Diana was the most photographed woman in the world for around 16/17 years and clearly loved clothes and liked to experiment. So at some point she probably wore every colour combo and style that was on trend that over 2 decades. Just as well Kate and Meghan aren't blonde as they'd never stop with 'side by side' photos!

ElspethFlashman · 17/01/2019 09:26

The price of that dress is exorbitant. There is simply no justification for it. £3,400 for a bloody sequin dress we'll probably never see again. It makes me feel a bit sick. Angry

AFifthOfKoolAid · 17/01/2019 09:40

I think yesterday's balances out with the £25 day dress. And maybe we'll see it again if she has another pregnancy. Maybe she'll have a daughter who will borrow it during her own pregnancy in 30 odd years. Maybe they'll auction it off for charity. Maybe she'll chuck it on a bonfire while cackling about scamming the British public. I don't think a royal woman wearing a designer dress that cost a few grand to a gala event is that shocking.

The taxpayer isn't paying anyway, apparently.

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/01/2019 09:44

@ElspethFlashman It is exorbitant but it's quite standard for royal gowns at big events. Kate's custom-made Jenny Packhams will easily cost that or more.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 17/01/2019 09:48

Speaking of which, my favourite ever Kate look, she looks like a total goddess in this dress. If I had the money and figure I'd wear this as a wedding dress.

Royal style & gossip: look out, duchesses about!
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/01/2019 09:55

I love that Jenny Packham. She’s definitely worn it recently to a do in Norfolk with the Cholmondleys.

To be honest a multi thousand pound gown is relative to their wealth.
The Royals probably get more wears out of evening gowns than most people. How many times have any of us bought an outfit ( shoes; bag, the lot and worn it only once).

DontCallMeCharlotte · 17/01/2019 10:10

That would be wallpaper paste Grin Grin

I loved Kate's look yesterday, even if it is possibly a bit dated. And I love the colour on her. The only "mistake" I can think of was the evening dress for the Dutch State Banquet but that might be a question of my taste more than anything.

I'm going to reserve judgment on Meghan's post-marriage/pregnancy wardrobe simply because nothing ever bloody fits - and it really doesn't have to be that way!

With last night's sequinned number, however, she absolutely knocked it out of the park. And she is breathtakingly beautiful. They both are.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 17/01/2019 10:18

You're right, Curly, I think she had her hair up when she wore it recently? So gorgeous. I love me a bit of rose gold/blush.

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/01/2019 10:27

Kate has had some excellent evening gowns - the sparkly Packhams, the teal Packham, the winter white Roland Mouret.

Apart from her wedding dresses, I thought last night's gown with the deep lip and the one-shouldered ODLR with dark nails are Meghan's best looks to date.

Spudlet · 17/01/2019 10:58

Kate wore a Jenny Packham gown to the Baftas when she was pregnant - doubt that was a cheapo number. 🤷‍♀️ Megan could potentially have that recut for after the baby, or she might wear it again if they have another, as someone else said.

florascotia2 · 17/01/2019 11:31

I don't know whether Meghan or indeed any of the royal family are poetry lovers, but it would be rather nice if someone had quoted Byron at her last night. He wrote this in admiration of - I think - a cousin of his, who was wearing a dark sequinned dress. Seems quite appropriate:

"She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes; ..."

AFifthOfKoolAid · 17/01/2019 11:37

That's lovely, flora Smile

hopeishere · 17/01/2019 12:16

@FlyMayBe yes but her husband is in a lounge suit. Other guests appear to be dressed up but not a full length evening gown.

She finds the gap between casual and Hollywood glam hard I think.

itswinetime · 17/01/2019 12:52

I can see what people are saying she wasn't dressed in the style as other people attending. But do we really expect her to be? When William and Kate used to do the royal variety show Kate was always in an evening gown wasn't she? Where as no one else was.

I don't think it's a Hollywood thing I think it's a royal thing. They dress up it's what's expected I think.

Rhubarbisevil · 17/01/2019 13:02

I’ve just bought some Penelope Chilvers boots Blush. Not THE boots, which were available but a) your calf needs to be the size of a clenched fist to fit inside them b) they are £465.

My boots are suede jodhpur boots and half price in the sale. I’ll have to google to see if Kate ever wears jodhpur boots.

Lelivre · 17/01/2019 13:38

Pineapplepower fair enough, I’m short waisted, I get that now; but the sleeves still look to short too me. I notice as it drives me nuts with my own clothing.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/01/2019 14:12

The dressing up thing is part of the Royals ‘ job.
Till very recently HM wore a white evening dress, ermine lined train and a crown to the state opening of parliament.
That is a place of work, where the MPs wear business suits.
