What jeans now?

After, quite frankly, being a bit of a porker for the best part of the year I'm ready to discard my old size 14 Sainsburys jeggings for the real thing, size 10.

*I certainly don't want any baggy cut offs or to revert to the old style very skinnies, I want something that looks "now" and must be a little bit sexy and fashionable.

Ideas?

I buy M&S slim cut proper thick denim but suitable for the over 40's, not super skinny like my DD's wear.

NotGoodieTwoShoes · 08/01/2019 15:06

i certainly do not want anything that might be regarded as suitable for the over 40's as I don't dress in an age related way and want the nicest jeans possible. Budget up to about £180. M&S is not a shop I buy anything from except food and cotton knickers. Sorry, anniehm.

Bumping for under 40s

notacooldad · 08/01/2019 15:12

If you've got thst much if a budget why not go to Harvey Nicks or Selfridges and have a jean fitting session. They will be on trend with jeans and what will look great on you.

umpteennamechanges · 08/01/2019 15:22

Well that was a bit of a shitty put-down response to someone just trying to help OP.

I agree with what PP said - go to Selfridges or Harvey Nicks and get a personal shopper to pull some various brands for you.

NeedChoos · 08/01/2019 15:29

Wow ouch!

That's not really going to get people bowling over to help you.

Have a look at some of the niche Jean brands as they will be a bit unusual and give you a designer stand out.

thegrassisgreenifyouwaterit · 08/01/2019 17:12

@anniehm do you have link please ? .. I need coverage and I'm only 39 Wink

Pinkruler · 08/01/2019 17:23

Honestly don't think it's worth spending £180 on jeans

NotGoodieTwoShoes · 08/01/2019 18:09

I think 180 for jeans is ok when there are people who spend 1000 on a handbag. Sorry if I offended anyone but go to m&s is not quite what I'm expecting anyone to say on a style thread and why should someone 40 + need different jeans to anyone else? Now I have a nice bottom and a proper waist I want to show them to their advantage@

If you look good, you will look good in M&S...(and similar brands)

I prefer to wear clothes, I don't let them wear me!

MozzchopsThirty · 08/01/2019 18:32

I love river island jeans, I have about 10 pairs in different shades
£40 per pair
Not mumsy

Chesneyhawkes1 · 08/01/2019 18:33

I'm worse get my jeans from Tesco 😱

Bought a pair for dog walking and realised I preferred them to my more expensive ones.

I'm under 40 and just bought jeans from m & s they are amazing. High waisted skinny jeans they seem really good so far.

tierraJ · 08/01/2019 18:40

I get skinny ankle grazer jeans from Dorothy Perkins. Got them in blue, grey & black.

Also river island, topshop & Zara are good.

I'm 42 & wear my jeans like all the younger women I know. No such thing as suitable for over 40s in my book.

Grin how to win friends as they say.

Get to Harvey Nicks and have a ganders.

pizzacrisps · 08/01/2019 18:54

Op sounds bloody horrible. Not fat anymore, but still ugly.

thedevilinablackdress · 08/01/2019 18:56

Levi's 501s all the way for me. The 'Wedgie' variant I like very much.

herethereandeverywhere · 08/01/2019 18:56

I'm a size 8, over 40 (but dress under, way under) and have an almost unlimited budget for clothes.

I would never waste spend £180 on a pair of jeans and never did in my under 40 days either! They're just jeans! I spend on high-end stuff (fav. designer is Vivienne Westwood but I love Alexander McQueen, Isabel Marant, Chloe and high street labels like Maje, Sandro and the occasional bit of stuff from AllSaints) but not jeans.

Try some on on Topshop, H&M and River Island - look at blogs and style mags to know what cut and style is current. Pocket the spare £100 and put it towards a statement top. Or buy the jeans in more than one colour.

[NB: Posted in as blunt a style as the OP's comment to Annie, though it's all honest stuff.
And AF's response is absolute diamond!]

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/01/2019 18:58

Yes I don't know why the OP couldn't have just said not really my thing but thanks.

WonderWoman2019 · 08/01/2019 19:00

Levi 721, Mavi Adriana, MiH Bridge (or MiH Oslo are the best if you can find them but now discontinued).

I have 8 pairs of MiH jeans and they are very flattering and well made. I truly believe they are the highest quality jeans money can buy.

Also the proud owner of some m&s jeggings Grin

DippyDuck123 · 08/01/2019 19:09

No help here at all but LMAO at how rude OP is!!!!!!

DippyDuck123 · 08/01/2019 19:10

Oh and M&S comes up loads on this board..... (however not always for the right reasons) Wink

WhoIsBU · 08/01/2019 19:22

Posted on MN and did not expect M&S to be suggested 😂
