Is anyone going grey this year?

I've grew my colour out a few times over the years. The only thing that annoyed me was how patchy it looked, it's white at the front and sides, getting darker towards the back. I'm naturally dark brown.
It looked a bit daft (imho) because I had a very short pixie cut.
I decided to try to grow my layers longer and went dark from bleached platinum.
The last couple of days I've been bleaching again because Ive decided to see how my colour grows out and would prefer not to have the skunk line.
Whether I stick to it is another matter HmmGrin

Not that my age matters in the slightest tbh.

Trippedupagain · 04/01/2019 17:14

HappyKatieA I'm rather glad you've mentioned those comments because it's best to be pre-warned about that and it will definitely irritate me. Mind you, the friend most likely to usually make personal comments like that actually has lovely silver hair herself, so she won't be negative. It's a bold move and I think I will have a look at some of the FB pages as well for inspiration. I have a lovely new hairdresser and I know he would love the idea of a complete change like that and I think he would be up to the challenge. Excited now!

Ive been dye free for 3 years now, as i wanted to grow out my natiral colour. Turns out i have shitloads of grey Grin im in my early 30ies and to ne honest i didn’t expect to have that much! I like the way it looks though (i have really long brown hair) and my husband is super supportive too and says it looks super cool. I sometimes get the occasional urge to have highlights in again but cant afford it atm anyway.

This is me from Dec 1st. I keep toying with growing it longer but I hate all the stages. Pic with no face is August ‘18 taken outside and the other is Dec 1st ‘18 indoors.

Sorry for garbled post, ignore the first sentence, I’m trying to tidy duplo and type at the same time.

Trippedupagain · 04/01/2019 17:31

Lovely, Doctorboo! I've just been on Pinterest and FB and feeling much more inspired to do it now. I last had my hair coloured about 5 weeks ago so maybe I will just have a cut next time and start to grow it.

Cocolepew · 04/01/2019 17:37

Wow, well done! It looks great.

In regard to comments, some people are just bloody rude. One of the first posts I read on GGG fb page was a woman who had a grey pixie. She had seen her mum for the first time since having it and said her mum made horrible comments all night! Why would you even do that.
When I was grey most people said they liked it but they didn't think they could pull it off, apparently I can because I'm "a bit alternative" Hmm Confused
Though tbf I don't care what other people think Wink

I have a hair appointment booked for tomorrow so I will see what she says. I'm getting excited about it now!

doctorboo · 04/01/2019 18:25

@JohnWolfenstein Ooh I look forward to your update!

Thanks @Trippedupagain and @Cocolepew 😄 I’ve had all sorts of comments, from friends, family and strangers, ranging from me ‘being brave’ to ‘needing to be a bit more edgy and experimental’ so it suits me better! Good thing I’m doing it for myself and not for the mithering bunch of plonkers.

I’m using Fanola No Yellow shampoo once a week which keeps it perky. I’ve been cutting it myself with mixed results for the last 6 months, but will probably go to supercuts (not always super imo) for a tidy up soon.

Cocolepew · 04/01/2019 19:39

I've just chopped about 3 inches of my hair and feel much better.
I could probably do another bleach in a week without my hair falling out to get it more platinum .

I stopped dyeing mine just over a year ago, and have gone from mousey chin-length bob to silvery crop and I much prefer it. I think it looks pretty cool and I get lots of compliments.

The only thing that irritates me a bit is that the back is still quite a lot darker than the front - what I'd really like is for pure platinum all over so have been toying with dyeing again but that seems to defeat the object a bit!

I'm 45, and when my hair is really short it's great but if it starts to get longer it does look frumpy, so I absolutely can't go more than 8 weeks between haircuts now, which is a bit of a pain. My hairdresser loves it though - she say she looks forward to my appointment as she can get the clippers out and it gives her a break from cutting layered highlighted blond bobs all day Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 04/01/2019 22:38

Actually my hair is very very similar to @CoatTails upthread

Cocolepew · 07/01/2019 07:51

That's what annoys me too fennel, my hair gets darker towards the back.
Ok so this is what I'm going to be starting from. Again Hmm

I’m attempting to go grey this year for the second time.First time I got to the around 9 month mark and started to feel very frumpy and old so went back to the home hair dye.
I am not sure how grey I am but I am guessing more than 50%.This time I need to see it through because I hate the way my hair looks ok for around two weeks after dyeing then turns a horrible orange. At the moment it is a mixture of white, grey and copper and it is around shoulder length.
I suppose I am worried about becoming invisible to everyone but I now want to be my authentic self.I am late forties

HappyKatieA · 07/01/2019 18:41

Lovely hair @Cocolepew, so is this the bleached that you're growing out into grey?

HappyKatieA · 07/01/2019 18:45

@Frugalfrump, I'm growing increasingly concerned that I'm hitting the hump, currently 7 months in - every now and then I catch myself thinking I should dye it again.
I think you've hilighted a really important thing, I've always been brunette, how am I going to feel about being known as something else? I've never had a problem changing colours, in fact I thrived on being able to change hair colour when I was younger.
I'm scared I'm going to ' blend in', to what? I don't know, the ether? 😂🙈
I'm thinking of drastically cutting mine off recently, but I'm not sure that's a good idea at the moment...

Cocolepew · 07/01/2019 19:12

Thanks, Katie, yes this is it bleached and then I'll let the natural colour grow in now.
My problem is I like to muck around with my hair , I can no longer be bothered but forget that every now and again Grin.

I had a platinum pixie until the last time I bleached in Jan 17. For about a year I was growing it out just trimming the very short pixie till it was all cut out and the last time I cut my hair was Jun 18. Since quitting the bleach my condition of my hair is vastly improved and so I'm not trying to grow it a long as I possibly can. Years of dyes and bleach just ruined my thin fine hair it's only now that I think I could get some decent length. I'm managed to stick out the grow out of the dye so I think I can stick out the grow out for length. I'm at about long pixie almost chin bob length so I've several years to go yet.

StillMedusa · 07/01/2019 23:34

I stopped dying mine 3 years ago..at 47. I had it chopped short and grew it to a bob, chopped again and now a year later it's just reaching my shoulders. White at the parting and salt and pepper the rest.
I'll never colour it again, because it is so freeing not caring about roots!
I do have days when I miss my red/brown hair but it's also in much better condition. I did get comments when I started but oddly a couple of my colleagues have now grown out their colour too !

WinterWendy · 08/01/2019 16:41

That's interesting Medusa about how long it's taken to grow.

I've not dyed mine for about 8 weeks now and I quite like my silvery temples but the demarcation line at the parting isn't a good look.

Putting my hair up shows the silver and hides my coppery ends so I've started to wonder about getting a pixie but I've only had short hair once about 15 years ago and didn't like it.
