Thank you Soy

twosoups1972 · 15/01/2019 21:01

What does everyone think of the Otley boots?

SoyYo · 15/01/2019 21:09

soups I hadn’t even noticed them so to me a bit meh and not very practical in that pale pink (veering into Essex girl territory) but the shape is fine I guess...not offensive at all if I’m honest but not for me...

NotAnActualSheep · 15/01/2019 21:15

But, I thought wonky cardis were fashionable.... I know nothing ConfusedGrin. Lol at the backward cardigan soy! I had a backwards sleeveless shirt once...it was supposed to be like that with buttons up the back, but I hardly ever wore it because someone would always comment I had it on back to front!

The toast purchases were back in JL, this rather Amish looking summery dress for £39 which is actually really nice on (though I did size down to a 10 and there's still space for two in the waist) and this denim skirt for £28. And I've also ordered a couple of pairs of lightweight trousers just to see... famous last words

Oh soups- I'm so glad your DD is picking up a bit. Yy to getting out in the fresh air every day.

neveradullmoment99 · 15/01/2019 21:21

I really like them @twosoups

neveradullmoment99 · 15/01/2019 21:26

I think the hush things are all a bit samey. I keep looking but nothing really is grabbing me. Also, there isn't much new stuff on but if I remember right, they do add.

NotAnActualSheep · 15/01/2019 21:26

Yes soups- those were the boots I thought looked quite nice Blush. I really like the shape and the colour would work with lighter clothes though not look twee because of the contrast with the heel (though yy not practical at all!). And it's a nice heel shape/ height. Though £££££ Shock I haven't seen anything that shape before, and now I'm wandering into shoe boot territory...

wearenotacodfish · 15/01/2019 21:30

The cardigan is like she couldn't be arsed getting dressed properly she's one of those people who seem like life is just too much effort.

@twosoups1972 glad to hear your daughter had a better day I am sure just being home will be helping.

noodlezoodle · 16/01/2019 00:57

I'm laughing at all the cardigans.

I ordered the Spanx faux leather leggings and was quite excited about them but they had to go straight back I'm afraid. I got the large but they still looked like they'd been absolutely sprayed on, plus I couldn't really think of what I'd wear them with, so I sadly returned them. As much as I wish I was, I'm not sure I'm really a leather leggings person.

Of the new Hush stuff I quite fancy the Frida cashmere jumper, if there's an offer or discount available. Such a beautiful colour.

Laska2Meryls · 16/01/2019 08:39

Morning Hushistas .. shopped the wardrobe wearing grey Meryl ( still love them!) M&S coated leggings l/l hush grey under and 4yr old biker boots.. It's cold in our office.. I am saving my leather leggings for when I am half stone down, don't want them to mould to my higher weight.. I agree new stuff not that special do hope Hush don't do all hearts this year. Wont wear hearts .
.I found myself looking at Jigsaw sale last night ( though didn't get anything, they have some nice stuff and liking some of thier new offering also..

dontcallmelen · 16/01/2019 09:07

Morning I am wearing painting clothes again, hopefully will finish hall today🤞🏻
Not like your toast bargains
Laska very nice outfit, yy jigsaw they do have some really good stuff.

Laska2Meryls · 16/01/2019 09:20

Len I'm thinking that I need to focus on only buying little but good quality now as only working 2days in the office now and we are fairly casual here anyway. I need to make sure everything works for my actual life..

Laska2Meryls · 16/01/2019 09:21

... problem is , I just get enabled far too easily blame you lot WinkGrin

dontcallmelen · 16/01/2019 10:17

Laska yy exactly what you mean, I’m going to go through all my spring/summer stuff & make a list of what may be missing or needed to make something more wearable/useful, rather than keep buying random stuff that then doesn’t go with anything I already have.
Says she who only needs a glimpse of something lovely on here then wants it😄 but I really really need to get a grip as the reality is that I don’t have much disposable income, so what I buy I think needs to be really good quality, will last & go with other stuff that’s my new mantra.

twosoups1972 · 16/01/2019 11:30

noodle I have the Spanx leggings in a M waiting to be tried on. I'm not holding out too much hope!

Agree about the Frida jumper, looks lovely.

laska I share your pain, I am enabled far too easily too Grin

Laska2Meryls · 16/01/2019 11:39

I can feel another dye project coming on . Ordered the faces T in sale to consider.. thinking that I may dye it bright pink or teal

dontcallmelen · 16/01/2019 11:52

Ooh bright pink or teal would be lovely Laska
Yy the Frida jumper very pretty but ££

SoyYo · 16/01/2019 12:07

Hello 👋 I totally agree with you len and laska about being mindful of new wardrobe purchases. I’m not hankering after anything at the mo (though super happy with recent sale purchases) and it is hard not to be tempted when we all post fab things at bargainous prices (I was so tempted by the Toast skirt that not purchased and the Poetry one I think fuzzy got but sat on my hands...yes the Brand Alley trainers were so lovely and in my size too). But that’s it for me for now...

There was a nice article about this topic in last Sunday Times “style” magazine. “Low heels, cross body bags and classic tailoring, oversized sweaters, tuxedo suiting and loafers all gained momentum last season...in times of uncertainty perhaps there’s some comfort to be had from having those timeless pieces in your wardrobe”
Article goes on to say fashion trends going modest and practical. No nonsense midi dress or jumpsuit, tailored blazers, check coats, well cut trousers suits with slightly flared trousers or interesting fabrics like velvet/satin plus good knitwear which “doesn’t come cheap” being more about the quality than quantity.
“The key is to look for nuanced proportions, good fabrics and attention to detail and it pays to buy the best you can afford because if you get it right, you will wear on repeat and your smaller wardrobe will thank you”
Oh if only it was that easy! We can at least aspire to it Smile

twosoups1972 · 16/01/2019 12:12

Hi Soy

We get the Sunday Times but I must have missed that article, will dig it out.

Definitely agree about being careful of new purchases and shopping from your wardrobe. I get tempted very easily especially on this thread! But I've noticed something recently - when I look at fashion pages, magazines etc and I notice a nice outfit, I'm often tempted to buy the item being displayed. But when I think about it, I probably have a very similar item in my wardrobe that I can re-create that particular look with. I seem to have a lot of clothes but I'm a bit clueless about putting things together.

SoyYo · 16/01/2019 12:17

Yes soup I think in my case I sometimes can’t see the wood from the trees I’ve got sooo much I forget what I have lurking in my huge wardrobe Blush
So we must all continue to be mindful and “shop” what we’ve got.
The article is hidden in page 37 “Simple, timeless, reliable. Welcome to the Wardrobe Revolution” so it’s definitely in the zeitgeist right now.

Laska2Meryls · 16/01/2019 12:44

One thing that has made me think more about this has been clearing my DMs wardrobe. She loved her clothes but when she had so many ! ( And so much I don't remember ever seeing her wear) We haven't anywhere near finished but poor DF has been amazed at the amount of empty cupboard space already in their bedroom. Sad but salutary process

FuzzyCustard · 16/01/2019 13:19

I have a wardrobe full of clothes, and there are many that I hardly wear. I have decided this is for two reasons...

  1. They don't suit my current lifestyle - rural living and pretty frocks don't go!
  2. I am always under the misapprehension that the next thing I buy is going to be the one thing that makes me look suddenly beautiful.

I need to get over these thing's don't I? (I did get rid of all my work suits and just kept a couple of black dresses for funerals!)

NotAnActualSheep · 16/01/2019 13:33

Oh what a shame about cardigan-lady codfish. I know we are making fun of her, but it must be sad to not take a bit of enjoyment from clothes, or taking some "pride" in appearance. I know not all of us have the same fashion sense, but it does sound as if she has given up a bit Sad

Sorry to hear about the leggings noodle. I think I'm with you...none I have tried do me any favours, and tbh, I'd feel a bit of a "fraud" wearing them! Yy to the cashmere, though. That is really pretty, and actually not a bad price given the rest of their jumpers are mixed fibres and not pure wool/ cashmere. That orange/ coral doesn't suit me at all, but I'd consider it if it was in other colours (actually, I wouldn't given my jumper drawer is exploding, but you know what I mean...)

I'm with Laska on the hearts. I did wonder if they were going to be the new stars... I have a couple of heart-y things, but can't cope with them in excess...unlike stars, it appears. Your outfit sounds great, Laska. I'm wearing my Meryl too, with some old legging-things, that are so thin and comfy I can't guarantee will last the day will change before leaving the house I think.

I agree with you all about buying less, and only stuff that fills a defined gap. I'm very bad at thinking what goes with stuff I already own (or even remembering what I already own!! I found a gorgeous pink jigsaw wrap jumper that I got in the summer sales when cleaning out, that still had tags on (it was a bargain!!) ...so not a year old, and not "unloved" but just forgotten about Blush Not sure that would count as wardrobe shopping tomorrow?!). But I'm also unsure how to put things together, so tend to stick with one or two combinations per item, when I'm sure I can be more adventurous, and reuse things in other ways, rather than buying new in a slightly different cut or whatever... Also, I'm scared a particular thing is going to look very old fashioned...which is a bit silly if it's only a couple of years old! I'm liking the sound of soy's article though. I can do "modest and practical" and non-cheap knitwear Grin

Yy to trying to dye that t shirt Laska. I really like its shape, and the faces, but it is quite thin, so giving it a colour may help that.

Hope you finish your hall len. You're being more productive than me today, and I'm supposed to be working!

dontcallmelen · 16/01/2019 13:35

Yy the clearing out clothes, my dm really had some beautiful clothes & lots of them I don’t remember seeing her wear, my dcs would have to get a bloomin great skip to get rid of mine & the stupid part is lots of it is ‘going out’ clothes & my social life has been vastly curtailed last few years.
My lifestyle is more, jeans/jumpers not sparkly jackets & high heels, my problem is I’m impulsive & don’t stop to think about how I would use/wear clothes, I need to get a grip as they say.
But am on day sixteen of no spend & managed to clear my remaining cc bill 😇

NotAnActualSheep · 16/01/2019 13:36

Yy fuzzy to constantly searching for the magical transforming clothing item. I'm horribly guilty of that too. Maybe we can form a support group!
