Oh wise people of S&B, please find me a hobo style bag. It needs to:

  • be large (at least approx. 30x30)
  • have a longer cross body strap as well as a grab handle
  • be black, dark brown or oxblood
  • ideally have a zip at the top, rather than just open
  • be leather

I feel like I’ve looked everywhere!

Oh, and budget up to £250

Following as I want the same!

BubblesBuddy · 30/12/2018 11:23

Try the Osprey sale. Coast and Andorra bags come to mind. I was just looking for me!

Also look at Russell and Bromley and you might find a Ralph Lauren one in the sale.

HettyB · 30/12/2018 11:31

Bubbles I have my eye on the Andorra and the Cambridge but I’m trying to justify the cost!

I found one I like at R&B but it doesn’t have a long strap and I think that might be a deal breaker for me (two kids under 4 means I need something hands free that won’t fall off when I run after them!)

I’ll take a look at Ralph Lauren

Coach have their sale on just now too.

HettyB · 30/12/2018 11:43

I have found a Coach one I like too...I’m just debating whether it’s big enough for all the toddler crap I carry around!

I love my furla hobo but not sure if they have one with a zip.

Bloomburger · 30/12/2018 12:35

Whistles have some nice bags in their sale.

BubblesBuddy · 30/12/2018 12:47

Osprey are well made. I would justify the cost in that you have a classic bag! Way cheaper than Mulberry for the same quality. Just no tree logo!

There seems to be a ground swell of opinion in favour of Coach on MN. I’m not sure why. There is a whole shop full of them at Bicester Village and Osprey are more classy!

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 30/12/2018 12:48

Are you set on a hobo style?

I know they’re a bit marmite, but ive just ordered a Longchamp Le Pliage Neo (I got the small, but they do medium and large which are very roomy). I’ve not received mine yet so I can’t say with certainty that it’s going to be my thing, but I do know that they’re virtually indestructible and very practical - a proper go-to grab bag that fits everything you could possibly need for a baby or toddler but still looks stylish, and you can dress it down or up. Lots of lovely colours, and they do leather versions too but I can’t remember what the name of that style is. Cuir, maybe?

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 30/12/2018 12:49

I’ve got to say I’m not very keen on Coach, but I can’t pin point why.

Ellapaella · 30/12/2018 12:53

Coach are affordable which is probably why they are so popular. But I have two friends who have Coach bags and the leather has not worn well. Within a few months it looked tatty and worn out. Both have said they wouldn't buy another coach bag. I like the styles of their bags though.

This is the small. You can get a better idea of size by looking at google images or YouTube.

I bought it in chocolate which was in the sale. But I also love the red and the navy. If I love the bag I fear it could get expensive as it’s likely I’ll want more...

EraOfTheGrey · 30/12/2018 15:06

I have 2 of these bags in both black and cherry red and I love them. Longchamp currently has the khaki colour on sale within your budget. The bag is super light and very soft, it also folds down really small like the traditional le pillage bag.

Please find me a handbag
EraOfTheGrey · 30/12/2018 15:08

Sorry, I meant to say that the khaki bag I mentioned above is leather and called the Longchamp le pliage Cuir.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 30/12/2018 15:11

Ohhhh Era I love that one!! I’m glad I didn’t look too much in their sale as I would have been sorely tempted!

EraOfTheGrey · 30/12/2018 16:09

Holger its a great saving and a lovely bag. I was after the pale grey one but alas it has sold out.

HettyB · 30/12/2018 18:39

I must be ridiculously picky - I still can’t find anything else I like!

Thanks for all your suggestions though. Does anyone have an Osprey bag and can tell me about the quality/longevity?

OP posts:
BubblesBuddy · 30/12/2018 19:30

Yes. I do. Well made and sturdy! John Lewis used to sell them. I’m sure you can send it back if it’s not for you.

Le Pliage in leather is a great shout too.

HettyB · 30/12/2018 19:34

Hmmm I may need to find an extra £100 and buy an Osprey...

Does anyone have the Andorra or the Cambridge? Or have any opinions on them? Might the Andorra be too big, do you think?

OP posts:
HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 30/12/2018 19:34

I have an Osprey bag. Bought it heavily discounted in one of their sales. Mine has lasted very well, still looks new. I probably haven’t used it for more than 3-4 months altogether but I did take it to work every day for a month running, and I don’t baby my bags at all.

HettyB · 30/12/2018 19:36

It’s those or a Coach Chelsea 32...but perhaps that’s a little small...

OP posts:
HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 30/12/2018 19:36

I have an osprey clutch too which is also still in pristine condition after a couple of years but I obviously haven’t used that one all that much as it’s mainly for evenings.

StrawberryStar · 30/12/2018 19:41

I’m watching with interest as I’m after the same. Surprised at the coach comments as the bag I’m replacing is a 10year old coach bag that is still in really good condition but I’m getting a bit board of it.
