Lovers of Parisian style and fashion with a conscious mindset to our wardrobes. Occasionally we pretend this is a proper Salon of the non-beauty kind.

Cold? I meant child!

Redandblue11 · 20/12/2018 16:59

OMG 😍 again the blue!
I cannot say enough how much I love these pictures, if I had to choose I would have a very hard time.
Tomorrow I would wear my new Joseph trousers with a sky blue shirt I have if I was here in the UK ... hopefully I will be in a plane but then again fate might be stronger and I might be here after all...
Yes stuck in the Gatwick fiasco, I do not have a clue if I will fly ...😢 or make my connection the other end ... not great when you have a child too...

JaneR0chester · 20/12/2018 17:22

Thanks quirky, and I hope service is resumed and everything runs smoothly red otherwise I'll be joining you in the scrum at Gatwick on Saturday Hmm

Have a safe and joyous Christmas period toutes les parisiennes ici xx

Floisme · 20/12/2018 18:23

Love the blue and orange combo and the blue coat over tan/beigy stuff (second to last pic).

Gatwick with a child can be grim at the best of times...wishing you a safe journey (and blue trousers) Red

CatherineMaitland · 20/12/2018 19:21

Oh I love that blue.

XingMing · 20/12/2018 19:50

Safe, chic, smooth-running travelling to you all.

Blue heaven. Aqua is a good winter mix-shade but easily overlooked.

How many thousands of images do you filter before posting, Bo? Your curatorial skills are quite astonishing. I loved the not-quite-white series too, but try to wear that -- on non-dogwalking, sunny days only!

quirkychick · 20/12/2018 21:01

More blue is good! I should start to mix lighter blue in winter clothes more often. I like blue and burgundy too. I agree with Xing, such lovely photos you choose, bo.

botemp · 21/12/2018 08:05

Keeping my fingers crossed for those traveling to and from Gatwick, hopefully minimal delays and safe journeys!

I have no idea how many images I reject Blush I just scroll on and I'm quite selective about what I like and look out for and that's usually quite specific so it's easy to sift through from my perspective.

I am still in the uk and yesterday was horrendous in Gatwick, we tried changing to flights from Heathrow and nothing. My DC in tears, I was in 😭.
I do not think we will be able to fly at all , missed the other connections (different airlines) and the booking for the whole family for Christmas. I only see them once a year as literally other end of the world.
Sorry just needed to vent no relevance to thread.
If I come out of my pyjamas today will be a miracle.

botemp · 21/12/2018 09:19

FlowersBrewCakeWine Red

That sounds properly miserable, I thought you were traveling today, didn't realise you were stuck there yesterday.

Ah Red...that sounds awful, so sorry. I hope you can get some sort of compensation, extraordinary circumstances or not.

ToElleWithIt · 21/12/2018 10:10

Oh RedandBlue I'm so sorry - how awful.

Hope everyone else has a peaceful Christmas.

Lovely blue images, that particular shade does nothing for me so I tend to admire from afar so this one might be tricky to recreate, but I will try.

XingMing · 21/12/2018 10:33

Ooh Red, what a desperate situation, and to possibly miss the whole Christmas family reunion. I do hope there's some compensation available and that you can make satisfactory alternative arrangements.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 21/12/2018 12:16

That is rubbish sorry to hear that Red. So stressful not knowing what’s happening. I hope your DS is OK.

I’m writing from exile in my spare room, suffering from stomach virus (well, not quite suffering any more, the worst is over so I’m just using the exhaustion as an excuse to catch up on the thread).

Thank you for the advent thoughts bo it’s interesting that you talk about light in particular seasons working for some colours. I like to wear black in the winter but I find it too harsh in other seasons. I always put it down to my mood rather than it not being quite the right environment for it.

I’m reading an essay about Sylvia Plath in new London Review of Books, intrigued by her post divorce capsule wardrobe:
She went to Jaeger – ‘it is my shop’ she told Prouty – and bought a camel suit and sweater, a blue and black tweed skirt, a green cardigan, black sweater and red wool skirt, with earrings, hair clasp and bracelet made of pewter to match. ‘My new independence delights me.’ She planned to raise the hems of all her old clothes.

CatherineMaitland · 21/12/2018 12:51

Just came across this article, posting for fun:

www.theguardian.com/fashion/2018/dec/20/cest-magnifique-how-to-look-french-when-youre-not

Redandblue11 · 21/12/2018 16:48

Thank you for kind messages all.
Staying here for Christmas after all that, we will try to travel later in the year to see the family.
We cried all the tears so we are now planning last minute fun things and plenty of friends have came to the rescue, so we are kinda ok.

Jon oh those nasty winter bugs, I imagine you in this enormous bed, silk bedding, tissues at hand, ipad, perfumes reading fashion news and looking stylish.

catherine am I half french if I have a cat? I am not a morning person and doubt I will ever be

CatherineMaitland · 21/12/2018 17:32

I am the grinchiest grump that ever lived pre-10am, so I hope you don't have to be a morning person to be/look French...

Sorry about the unpredicted stay but hope it turns out to be a good time in spite of all.

Floisme · 21/12/2018 17:51

Really sorry to hear that Red, it must be hard. Glad you’ve got friends looking after you and I hope you manage to see your family before too long.

I sometimes wear lipstick on my cheekbones but not my lips. Does that mean I’m more French than I thought?

It’s not only the sales that have started early - so have new year clearouts it seems. Today I have walked away from a Diana Von Furstenburg dress and silk top. beautiful Max Mara coat (too big even for a tailor to fix) Dolce & Gabanna blazer (too blingy) John Smedley jumper and something else that I’ve already forgotten. This was in 3 shops so unlikely to be a single random donor. Did get some Toast trousers which I didn’t bother trying on first cos I’m always the same size in Toast but they’re tiny - will re-donate in the new year.

DAY 21 - DAY 21 - DAY 21

Sorry, not enough hours in the day again. Had to choose between being able to change and poke my eyeballs with some kohl liner and doing a proper post. Needless to say, quick back of the taxi post won.

Some Netflix suggestions as the first installment of 7 Days Out is out today which covers the Chanel show, hopefully it's as good as the previous one.

Since we have the sick and the stranded now I'm sure a few extra suggestions are welcome. Franca is excellent about former editor at large of Vogue Italia. She was really remarkable and far ahead of the curb and it was quite shocking to hear of her passing.

Joan Didion: The Centre Will Not Hold, is excellent 70s intelligentsia style inspiration.

Also of interest, I Am Not An Easy Man, French film in which the male protagonist chauvinist suddenly finds himself in a world ruled by women. The exploration of the mythical Parisian girl as the opposite sex is quite amusing and revealing.

Alas, I am back! And what an absolute joyeux noel it has been catching up with the advent calendar. Thank you Bo for putting it together, an real unexpected treat to come back to as I know you said it was unlikely with your busy schedule.

Red- your plane fiasco sounds grim, glad you are managing to find some positives in it all. Wine to good friends.

Flo- charity shop finds sound amazing, charity shops/Eva make up the vast majority of purchases now. When I happen to be in RL shops or occasionally looking on-line, I'm always somewhat gobsmacked at poor quality for £££.

I too am going to have a wardrobe sort, reducing my work hours to look after youngest son means I'm going to store vast majority of work clothes. I am actually looking forward to having more room in the wardrobe and being able to really focus on my more casual look (I always found world wear chic pretty easy).

Of the looks, I love the tonal looks of different shades of off-white/grey/blues. When these threads first started, I paired back my wardrobe quite a bit and tend to have (mostly) neutrals; the tone on tone look, I feel, really offers a way to play with a neutral wardrobe and create a distinctive look.

Also loved the trainers on the more senior ladies in the images, somehow they made the trainers seem more relaxed/effortlessly chic, whereas I felt those 20s-40s (as in RL) tend to just look like they are following the herd. Perhaps it is the same with most things, they look fresher on women 50+ as fewer seem to wear them.

I saw a woman (I'd guess late 60s) in a charity shop a few weeks ago and she was stunning, gorgeous jewel toned clothes, trainers and amazing hair, sort of 40s quiffed curl on top, dyed grey blonde and shaved all underneath. I had to tell her amazing she looked and she said she has her hair set like that every few weeks and doesn't touch it in between. Wish I could have taken a photo to share but that may have tipped me from admiring to creepy.

Methenyouplus4 · 21/12/2018 18:28

Excuse typos.Ebay, not Eva.

quirkychick · 21/12/2018 21:16

Oh, red, how awful. I hope you manage to have a good Christmas here instead, it sounds as if you have lots of support.

I hope you feel better soon, Jon. There's a lot going around, I think.

Lingerie as Outerwear

Ahem, yes, I debated much on the inclusion of this emerging trend as it tends to cycle in and out every few years and is about as non-inclusive as fashion can get. I mean even the talented Phoebe Philo was reaching with her silk camisole dresses wasn’t convincing me by pairing it with Dr. Martens. Nope, the blazer isn’t convincing me anymore either…

There is a point of differentiation this time around though, we seem to have eviscerated lace in the main along with all things girly. A peep of lace we can all do. Which is interesting enough on its own but not worthy of discussion either, more interesting is that in the past few years lingerie and underwear has drastically changed.
