OMG, the FIFTH WWW 10yy Boot Camp of 2007, all welcome

WideWebWitch · 25/06/2007 08:45

This is week ONE of the fifth boot camp of 2007 everyone is welcome.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

I will post everyone's stakes as posted on the last thread later. Have a day off to spend in bed and at cinema with dh, who is out dropping off both children

I am having a good week again and back to hard exercise and brilliant eating. Ate loads of roast chicken stuffed with garlic, corainder and lime last night but I dont care as it is my favourite meal and I have had soup for lunch every day and a juice for breakfast.

Am also moisturising, going to bed early (wow) and drinking more water. Halo applied for as it had gone a little rusty.

Winnie thinking of you. xx

Well, I ate chocolate yesterday but I don't care because I was in A & E waiting for dd's gory chin wound to be gaffer-taped together
No lasting damage apart from her only decent school dress soaked in blood
Walked a lot of the angst out of my system this morning and am otherwise having a good day.
WWW, I take pictures of trees too - most recently of a soaring laricio pine on our sundrenched French campsite.
As we are sadly a chicken-free household it's not so much Brraauu as Brrrr chez nous, am very envious of you fowl-fanciers
Norks, welcome back
Bamamama, is it just me, or have they upped the rudery content of Rome astonishingly this series I nearly choked on my Redbush tea last night!

Marina · 28/06/2007 14:31

oh and batters - I make myself eat the stuff. In my heart I am browsing on Dorset Cereals' Finest

motherinferior · 28/06/2007 15:07

Wotcher all.

I am rather traumatised by young fit goddess-like colleague who struts around exposing golden flat belly and/or firm thighs (I didn't have those when I was her age, dammit, although admittedly was not member of posho gym at her age) but deeply endeared to features director with whom I had in-depth conversation about cake

But am a bit glum about the seeming impossiblity of ever buying any jeans on the whole planet that actually look nice on me. Tell me, oh MNers who've met me, am I quite peculiarly squat and tree-trunk like???

Yes, all taped up batters. The plaster's the only clean bit of her
No, this was in the playground. Apparently she was "doing good jumping and then I forgot to move my feet"
She can still talk and eat unimpeded

motherinferior · 28/06/2007 15:46

Marina, she sounds so fab

Marina · 28/06/2007 15:58

ah, you know these summer of 2003 gals MI
You don't look stumpy to me either!

tortoiseSHELL · 28/06/2007 15:59

Oh no, poor marina's dd. Hope she's ok. x

We had a traumatic day today - I posted last night that dd's chicken (which we got on SUNDAY to great excitement), who was duly named Sarah Jemima, was not looking herself. She was a bit droopy. This morning she was looking bad, we took her to the vets who gave her some medicine, and she died at lunchtime. Am now worrying about the other chickens, in case she had something horribly infectious, she's gone for a PM, and they said don't let the children out into the garden until they know it isn't salmonella. Not a happy day in our house. Keep your collective fingers crossed that the other chickens are ok. Dd also missed out on her playgroup trip to the seaside, because we were taking the chicken to the vets, trying to work out what to do etc.

(I wouldn't normally send a chicken for a PM btw, but given that we've only had them 3 days, I want to know for the sake of the other chickens. And the vet wanted to eliminate avian flu...we could be the household that start the termination of mankind.)

Marina · 28/06/2007 16:02

Oh, tortoiseshell, how awful I'm so sorry. I bet the dcs are terribly down about poor Sarah Jemima

tortoiseSHELL · 28/06/2007 16:06

They're quite chipper actually marina. Am comforting myself that it is a good life lesson, but am not feeling too optimistic about the other 2 birds - really hoping they are ok...

tortoiseSHELL · 28/06/2007 16:07

But am also MAKING myself be philosophical, because they are only birds, even if they have names and are really cute.

Marina · 28/06/2007 16:22

Hope the other two are OK
There was a post about hens on here somewhere that reminded us all they are feathered Cretaceous Era throwbacks with teeny tiny brains in case any bootcampers are feeling teary on tortoiseshell's behalf

tortoiseSHELL · 28/06/2007 16:32

I have been very weepy all day marina, and kept reminding myself of that! Dh took the day off work to take hen to vets, then off to the lab. At least when we find out what it is we'll know what to do if the others get sick.

Marina · 28/06/2007 16:34

So there's hope for her two surviving pals (have been thinking despondently of the scourge of cat flu and rescue kittens )

glitterfairy · 28/06/2007 17:55

Sorry Marina about your dd. A&E can be pretty wearing with a young child.

Tortoishell hope they find out it was just that hen IYSWIM and your other two are ok.

Have had a good day and had porridge for breakfast and then a lovely chicken and avocado salad for lunch and tonight roast veg and pasta. I was bored of the juice -soup thing and frankly starving after cycling to the swimming pool and back (4miles) and swimming for half an hour.

tortoiseSHELL · 28/06/2007 17:57

There's hope marina - they look well enough - but if they die, they die. But at least if we know what it is then we know what can or can't be done, rather than hopelessly guessing. Was not totally impressed with the place we got them from, because they just suggested giving us another bird straight away, which seems a bit lunatic to me, as presumably if it's something horrible then that would just die as well.

THey've not had any other reports of illness though, which is a good sign, as the bird with our one would presumably have had it as well.

yoyo · 28/06/2007 19:29

My "do" went very, very well. Loads of people said they loved my dress. Had lovely compliments from women and men - one man told his wife that he almost didn't recognise me (says a lot about my everyday appearance!). It felt fantastic. The Bootcamp has most certainly worked for me as I would never have had the confidence for my outfit before.
The food was pretty good, the wine was fantastic (I drank a fair bit but it was a long night and I awoke bright and early this morning) and the company was funny and interesting. My happiness levels are extremely high.

Marina - sorry to read about your DD. Hope it heals quickly. My DD often forgets to move her feet and has the scars to prove it!

Tortoiseshell - any news on the hens?

WWW - back to serious bootcamping. Well done.

TheDuchessOfNorks · 28/06/2007 20:08

After my day off from running yesterday I did a very slow 2k to loosen up after Tuesdays exertions. Ooh, the ache in my legs after about 10yds was ghastly but I ran through it. I'll have a bath later and put my feet up for an hour.

Moron is over 15,000 and I haven't been out to do the ponies yet. Haven't had enough water today, feeling rather parched so I'll go and top up.

tSHELL - I'll find the chicken thread again later.

Glitter - you have to eat well after swimming. It's impossible not to!

Marina - your DD sounds very brave. Sorry about her dress though!

Yoyo - Glad you had such a good time. It sounds like a really good evening.

motherinferior · 28/06/2007 20:55

Yoyo, hurrah. Winnie, I am so sorry. Shell, surely it was just a one-off? Surely?

I am not going to Pilates tonight because DD1 - who has been off sick today - is I think not well enough to leave with a babysitter, at least not the one I was using (nice girl, not sharpest tool in box). Of course she perked up and frolicked wildly with her sister this evening, but after she crashed this afternoon I realised it wasn't a good idea. So no exercise whatsoever for me - at least not beyond child pace - till at least DP comes back from Stockholm (conference) on Sunday night.

glitterfairy · 28/06/2007 22:12

Thanks Duchess problem is my appetite has lasted all day so off for an early night tonight as I have a job interview tomorrow afternoon and wokr in the morning!

WaynettaSpice · 29/06/2007 07:59

Right, I need a kick up the arse, so I am going public about a need for motivation and also to be embarrassed into doing something.
I have lots of lovely clothes I can't fit into because I am eating and drinking too much.
I have to stop using the fact that I'm a FT WOHM as an excuse.
I need to start loving myself.
Amen.

tortoiseSHELL · 29/06/2007 08:01

Hi, just a quick update on hens - other 2 looking ok atm. BUT, the vet is now saying they have a 'major concern' that the bird may have had salmonella.... In which case the other 2 will probably get it, and we have to watch them really carefully, and at the first sign of anything take them in, and see what the PM says. Meanwhile, children can't go in garden and we have to be ultra ultra ultra careful - they're really worried about the children catching salmonella.

Not fun.

But I still like my hens despite all this, and as my friend said, at least they're not worrying about avian flu.
