Link to previous thread.

And once again, let's keep this good-spirited. Spiteful comments are about as welcome as Fergie at Prince Philip's birthday party!

Is anyone else picturing Samantha and perhaps Thomas camped outside the Lindo wing (I'm sure some disreputable paper would get them press accreditation or something or that would be the story that they've been refused entry).

Whatever about the rumours of rifts and everyone quitting because shes difficult to work for, whenever her family has a go at her, I feel very protective of MM. It just seems so spiteful and mean spirited especially when shes pregnant. I hope Doria comes and gives some stability without taking over, she seemed like a calming influence at the wedding.

ElspethFlashman · 09/12/2018 15:47

The two main rumours are a) Doria was in a commune and b) Doria was incarcerated. Though I am sceptical about that one as it would be public record and I've heard that it arose from the existence of an inmate with a very similar name but different spelling.

But it's all irrelevant now. Doria has made a very stable and quiet life and they obviously have a good relationship now. Whereas Thomas may have given her a home and funds but it clearly has not been unconditional.

owlshooting · 09/12/2018 15:52

All the notes and letters that Thomas is producing from Meghan smack of a desperation to please her Dad and a lot of gratitude. There must have been a reason why an 11 year old would go and live with her father until she went to Uni. He seems to have been the main caregiver and the one who paid for her education. He has behaved very badly, but he was thrust into the limelight without preparation, not even having met his future son in law. It must have been bewildering for him.
It's easy to glorify the parent who wasn't there during your childhood. Doria comes across as a great person, but maybe she really wasn't around for M's formative years. Who knows what has gone on, but I suspect it isn't as straightforward as it appears.
Low level contact would shut Thomas up at least and leave some room for a future relationship if desired. As it is, he is going to up the ante all the time to feel heard and it's going to be embarrassing all round. He seems to be influenced by Samantha who is clearly off her trolley/
I also read that he doesn't see his other grandchildren, so there is some story there.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/12/2018 15:55

This "MM should contact her father" is all very well, but she really can't win; if she does, he'll probably plaster the details of that all over the media too - no doubt with additional commentary by the ghastly Samantha and a plug for her upcoming book

I smiled at the time of W&K's wedding when someone said "he's done really well marrying into the Middletons", but let's face it, they weren't far wrong

user1457017537 · 09/12/2018 16:22

I think records can be expurged with the right level of influence. Doria apparently made bad business decisions and was maybe made insolvent. I guess we will all never know and it’s not really our business.

user1457017537 · 09/12/2018 16:24

I must say the Windsor Castle wedding was a complete contrast to the Jamaican beach wedding and the bags of weed as wedding favors.

ElspethFlashman · 09/12/2018 16:56

Bags of weed as wedding favours.....thats a bit grim, isn't it? I mean I've partaken plenty in the distant past so I shouldn't be judgey but.......NO. Its so low class.

Also its just occurred to me that it was intended to be smoked that evening! And probably was! Nope, not for me!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 09/12/2018 17:08

Wonder if there was any vetting of Meghan at all? Mind you - look what she’s married into!!

Moononthehill28 · 09/12/2018 17:14

Doria and Thomas both declared bankrupt with debts at different points.

Moononthehill28 · 09/12/2018 17:15

Kate’s family and Meghan’s family are just poles apart

Paradyning · 09/12/2018 17:28

It's the Nobels tomorrow! Can we wager on the tiaras? I hope Madeleine turns up in her modern fringe tiara.

chumsnet · 09/12/2018 17:29

That flat is classic ‘country house via Peter Jones’ - it’s how virtually everyone who is first generation upper middle class decorates. As that’s what Carole is, there’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Older money has better pictures, more patterns, shabbier furniture, darker carpets, and books.

Bloominglovely · 09/12/2018 17:34

I think MM’s father is off his trolley too. The thing about low level contact is he simply can’t be trusted and letting him have any involvement would possibly place her baby in actual danger too.

MM ca t win. He will sell details of whatever contact he has with her. I understand why they feel no contact is best but sadly either way he isn’t going to just go away. Keeping him as far away as possible is probably the most she can do.

He really is the biggest asshole of a father declaring his feelings for her whilst publishing every personal thing he can find or remember, particularly now when she is pregnant and should be able to enjoy a stress free pregnancy. He obviously doesn’t care about her at all.

classic ‘country house via Peter Jones’

I was trying to find a way to describe it but @chumsnet has hit the nail on the head!

@Paradyning Madeleine isn't going. Now that's she's moved to Florida, she isn't expected/willing to participate in State Occasions.

There is a whole theory that she hasn't been valued by the King, and that the Paps haven't been reigned in concerning her husband and family.

I'm sure a Scandi expert will be along shortly to give more details. Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/12/2018 17:42

Damn! Nobody looks more magnificent in tiara and gown than Madeleine!

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/12/2018 17:43

@parkinpig There is a Scandi poster on this thread who gave us the heads up on how the Swedish royal family is perceived a while ago. I think it's @beanaseireann but I could be wrong.

@miri1985

Oh jeez! Camping outside the Lindo is exactly what Samantha would do, hopefully security would remove her swiftly

Paradyning · 09/12/2018 17:52

Oh no gutted! She is beautiful!
Wonder if they'll give Sofia free reign or whether she'll just have to stick with her wedding tiara

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/12/2018 17:54

With the whole "Markle Debacle"

Everyone has the right to a fresh start in Life. No-one has any idea what Doria "did or didn't do", if anything at all. But the fact of the matter is she is a gracious woman who loves and supports her daughter.

I don't have any interest in What Thomas Markle has to say, but I suspect a lot of his words probably come from Samantha. He has 2 daughters (as well as a son) and I suspect like any parent, he is torn.

And Meghan herself. There is much talk of her route to becoming a Duchess (Kate received the same treatment.) Well she's here now. She obviously loves Harry, and he her. They are expecting a baby and really there should be a line drawn under their past life choices.

Imagine in RL if people brought up mistakes / decisions you made 5 / 10 / 20 years ago when you were a different person, with less maturity or life experience.
I think Harry has made a good choice, most importantly for him, because she is his wife and the mother of his child/ future children.
She is intelligent, confident with having a public profile. Things she has been criticized for are so irrelevant in the scheme of things. Usually something to do with other people: her family, potential rift between in-laws, staff choosing to leave. Everything gets laid at Meghan's door, because she is the different, confident new girl.

PawneeParksDept · 09/12/2018 18:04

I must admit that Marijuana Favours don't fit her at all, so much so that I fail to believe it.

But everyone is entitled to reinvent themselves and change their image - it's not like Harry wasn't bollocked sideways by Charles for having dabbled in pot.

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/12/2018 18:11

Well said @CurlyWurlyTwirly

Especially when you consider the Windsor shenanigans over the years - Harry playing dress up, Harry's Vegas exploits, Tampaxgate, Andrew's full frontal shots, Diana and Fergie etc etc!

Very very true. Most of us wouldn't stand that sort of scrutiny, no wonder Chelsey and Cressida turned him down.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/12/2018 18:16

Personally I took the "bags of weed wedding favours" as a joke

At least, I hope it was Hmm
