Anyone with teenage daughters?...

Hi, I have a 13 year old niece and am a bit out of the loop fashion wise! Do teenage girls still like Super Dry and hollister? Was thinking of getting her a hoody for Christmas, but don’t want to be the ‘cringe’ aunt who gets it wrong re labels! 😂
Thanks

I have a teenage step daughter who is older than yours but I would say you can't really go wrong with TopShop for teenage girls. Brands can be tricky.

Ellapaella · 04/12/2018 18:43

TS do hoodies.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 04/12/2018 18:44

my dd likes Victoria Secret's Pink, adidas hoodies (with the logo on the front) and forever 21 x

APositiveMind · 04/12/2018 18:44

River island, asos do some lovely clothes and accessories

ihatethecold · 04/12/2018 18:48

Top shop is still very popular with teens.
Some like jack wills hoodies. (Very soft and good quality)
Victoria’s Secret is popular also.

Sidge · 04/12/2018 18:55

My teenage girls like Jack Wills and Superdry.

But to be honest they also like New Look, River Island and Primark!

They’re still growing, so I wouldn’t spend a fortune at that age.

LynetteScavo · 04/12/2018 19:46

I think different teenage girls are into different brands, depending on their school/the area they live in.

My 13yo (midlands) is into Jack Wills/Holister...is desperate for anything Gucci (dream on!) and still wears a SuperDry hoody, but doesn't really bother about it. She's just as into New Look though.

I just asked her which brands she likes and she said Jack Wills, Calvin Klein and Champion (I struggle with the last one, TBH)

ThePortugueseTart · 04/12/2018 20:28

My daughter just turned 14.
She’s very into Topshop, Hollister, Converse, Vans, DMs etc...
She’s no longer really into New Look or Superdry.

twosoups1972 · 04/12/2018 20:31

My dd is a bit older (15), she loves Top Shop, Brandy Melville and Urban Outfitters.

ImperfectTents · 04/12/2018 20:33

My 14 year old LOVES urban outfitters but hell will freeze over before I spend that much on a crappy hoodie. She would love any family who bought her one. Ask her mother what she likes

Daria32 · 04/12/2018 20:35

Thank you! 🙏🏾 Great suggestions so far! So, it didn’t need to be a ‘branded’ hoody? I wouldn’t know where to start with other clothes, so will go to Topshop and have a look at hoodies. She’s really into sports too. Is there a particular sports type (or brand) I should look at? Thank you wise mumsnetters!

PS- have asked her mum and she doesn’t have a clue!

Nike or Adidas

hendricksy · 04/12/2018 21:07

My dd is 15 . Superdry isn't cool , she likes Topshop and urban outfitters .. she has just had a birthday and got vans and hoodies and Topshop Joni .

LucheroTena · 04/12/2018 21:11

It depends on the area op, might be best to ask their mum. Round here Superdry is classed as middle aged persons shop. Jack Wills is out and Hollister just about ok.

Top shop, Abercrombie and Fitch, Urban Outfitters all passable. Calvin Klein or Tommy if you want to spend more. Victoria’s Secret ok, Pink for younger girls.

These are not my views by the way but my picky teen.

5fivestar · 04/12/2018 21:14

It needs to be branded to be a fab present rather than the cheap stuff Mum buys that they don’t actually want to wear.

5fivestar · 04/12/2018 21:15

My 14 year old is getting Nike for Christmas, can’t go wrong

Daria32 · 04/12/2018 21:16

@5fivestar - that’s exactly it! She doesn’t get any branded stuff and I know she would love it!

Daria32 · 04/12/2018 21:17

@LynetteScavo - good to know that’s nike is okay! That’s what I wear and I thought it may not be ‘cool’ for the youngsters too! Good to know I’m trendy in my active wear! 😂

I would avoid any obvious brands TBH - it's too easy to make an expensive mistake if you don't know what they're into.

As you said that even the teen's mum doesn't know what brands she's into then maybe she's not a "labels" person, my DD certainly wasn't at that age (other than Converse trainers)

SleightOfMind · 04/12/2018 21:19

Is she’s sporty, you could get her a half decent Fitbit type of thing for the price of a hoodie?

empmalswa · 04/12/2018 21:21

Does she even wear hoodies?

Mine never did. She wouldn't touch superset after about 13.5/14 either.

Daria32 · 04/12/2018 21:26

@empmalswa- she lives in hooodies and gym leggings/ jeans!! @sleightofmind- Her mum Is getting her a Fitbit!
Some great ideas here, thank you!

Maybe just asked her what brands she likes?

Icypop · 04/12/2018 21:32

Dont get nike..if your going for a 'sports' brand get Adidas. BUT only addidas originals with the 3 leaf type logo on the front. Or beyonces 'ivy park' range from top shop
