Anyone with teenage daughters?...

Hi, I have a 13 year old niece and am a bit out of the loop fashion wise! Do teenage girls still like Super Dry and hollister? Was thinking of getting her a hoody for Christmas, but don’t want to be the ‘cringe’ aunt who gets it wrong re labels! 😂
Thanks

My 14 year old DD is so fussy. I would go with a voucher for new look, river island or topshop. Boxing day sales are usually decent.

Acopyofacopy · 04/12/2018 21:36

You really need to ask! Nike is boring, it has to be Adidas for dds, or Fila.
As pp have already said, too easy to buy the wrong, totally uncool thing...

Harryrotter · 04/12/2018 21:52

If she’s sporty and you want to get a brand, get a Pink (Victoria’s secret), they are the must have for my dd year at school (13, Y8). They always seem to have offers on.

SleightOfMind · 04/12/2018 22:22

Ah, great minds Wink.
If you live near enough, give her a voucher to go shopping for a hoodie she’ll love in the sales.
Be prepared to be stung for a bit extra though Grin

SleightOfMind · 04/12/2018 22:23

I mean take her on a shopping trip with you.

Holidayshopping · 04/12/2018 22:24

Top shop is a good bet.

teta · 04/12/2018 22:32

I would just give her money or transfer some money into her PayPal account. My 14 year old Dd would not be seen dead in anything I buy. But she’s does buy a lot on Depop using Paypal or eBay. Or failing that a Top Shop voucher will go down well.

Geraniumpink · 04/12/2018 22:48

Vouchers would be best. My teen is Primark and then very specific band merch. They are all different.

olivertwistwantsmore · 04/12/2018 22:50

Dd is 15 and loves Topshop and the new hoodies at H&M with the ring pull necks.

spidereye · 04/12/2018 23:26

Mine likes Holister, Vans, DMs and anything Harry Potter! Victoria Secret was a favourite in year 8, but not in year 9 and the lovely pink rucksack has been discarded (although she still likes the beauty products)

Baxdream · 04/12/2018 23:36

My stepdaughter is currently into Pink, Nike and champion.

MrsEricBana · 04/12/2018 23:38

Yes Topshop voucher would be ideal - what they really want is the ability to choose their dream item.

MrsEricBana · 04/12/2018 23:39

But other brands they love are Urban, Brandy Melville & Adidas in partic as others have said.

fashiondevotee · 05/12/2018 19:47

I wouldn't do Hollister or Superdry.

I'd go for Nike, Victoria's Secret Pink, Calvin Klein or Tommy Hilfiger.

3 teens here. Nike would be favourite for sports wear.

Justgivemesomepeace · 05/12/2018 19:53

Mine likes pink/victoria secrets, top shop and the ivy park brand they sell, adidas, nike, north face, anything that costs an arm and a leg basically.

Aragog · 05/12/2018 19:54

My niece who is a year younger but very much into the teen fashion. I have got her Ellesse - a brand I know she likes. She also likes Pink and Adidas. Most teens round here wear Hollister and Superdry still, plus the sports brands above. Also various other sports brands inc Nike.

I don't like much Top Shop still - seems very poor quality when dd has had it here. DD, who is a little older, likes Urban outfitters though they often do lots of other brands inshore rather than just their own, esp for hoodies. DD wears a lot of Levi stuff too, and actually has a big collection of thinks like Hard Rock Cafe, etc. A lot of DD's friends also like the Disney and Harry Potter stuff from harry Potter - though they are generally a bit older so a bit more secure in their choices when it comes to that sort of thing, and not as likely to get taunted at school for wearing anything like that - younger teens can be a bit more worried about friends in that sense.

Aragog · 05/12/2018 19:57

I won't give vouchers or cash as gifts in generally. Luckily none of the family/friend teens/tweens I buy for insist on them and most will give suggestions.

If I was to do a voucher/cash I prefer the idea of a shopping day, depending on your relationship with the girl, where you have a set budget for her to choose and maybe some food out, etc.

namechangedtoday15 · 05/12/2018 19:58

My 13yr old (yr 9) and her friends have never stepped foot in a Top Shop as far as I'm aware so definitely not "cool" here (maybe it will become cooler as she gets older). Victoria Secrets is a good shout (for cool pants etc - not the M&S ones she's always had, cropped sports tops, beauty) or Adidas.

Sorry to be harsh but even if you're a really cool Nike-wearing Auntie, I'm guessing you're maybe 30+ And anything worn by that age group is "tragic" apparently Grin! So don't buy her Nike if you wear It Smile!

Hezz · 05/12/2018 22:27

Adidas died a death here last year and Nike is the current in sport brand.

Pink is out too.

I'm currently working in a London secondary school.

justforareply · 05/12/2018 22:40

This is v hard depending on area/age/social group
DD would not wear superdry a&f hollister jw or pink
She has recently bought vintage old and a bit worn Ralphie stuff and loves my 20 year old reebok gym sweatshirt that I used for the gym and a manky fila sweatshirt
She says ralphie, Tommy, vintage champion vintage fiila - this may not be helpful

ThePortugueseTart · 05/12/2018 22:51

If she’s sporty, she might like the Ivy Park at Topshop range. My 14 year old has various T-shirts and leggings. They’re bound to do a hoodie!

Cocolepew · 05/12/2018 22:54

DD would like Vans, CK, North Face, Adidas

chemenger · 05/12/2018 23:05

I think this is quite a specific question. Both my dds have left school but Jack Wills was completely out of fashion with them about three years ago, having been very in. Hollister is dead to them, again having been longed for a few years ago. No to Nike, but mostly because I hate Tiger Woods. Neither would have been seen dead in SuperDry at any point. Both of them are now into vintage (which seems to be mostly things I wore when I was their age). Neither would wear anything with a logo except ironically, and definitely not on a new garment. My younger dd’s most favourite garment is a fleece jacket with pictures of wolves on it which is ten sizes too big. Probably originally came from a garden centre in 1995. What’s more, it gets admiring comments from trendy looking people all the time. She wears it with black velvet platform doc martins. If I had to choose a shop they both tolerate it would be Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie, which they would love to be able to afford.

nancy75 · 05/12/2018 23:09

I’d second urban outfitters, in my part of London super dry is strictly for the middle aged dad trying ( and failing) to look cool
