As always, let's try to keep it light and avoid all spite...

Ingrid Alexandra has always had a lovely intelligent gaze. She is one of a handful of teenage princesses who are going to be queen in their own right one day. Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway will all have female monarchs in the future. Hope they all get together and form a support group.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/12/2018 20:58

Yes George is in the minority as he'll only have Christian of Denmark and Jacques of Monaco for company!

Spot on Guardian piece about all the Meghan bollocks.

Also makes the interesting point that before Meghan came along, the press compared Kate to Diana, furthering the myth that women must always be in competition with someone else - ''When you are a woman, not even death can exempt you from an imaginary cat fight''

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/12/2018 21:55

That's a good companion piece to the ones by Hadley Freeman and Suzanne Moore last week. And very true about how the "angry black woman" trope is still used against WOC.

Her prior “Hollywood environment” is seen as the cause of her supposed demands, as if she has taken on a more down-to-earth occupation by becoming a princess.

My favorite quotation from that Guardian piece.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 03/12/2018 22:11

I loved that too seneca

A bit off the current topic - one of the things i specifically love about watching videos of the RF is when they are out and about with their 'commoner' hosts for an event, and seeing how glaringly obvious it is which one in the group is the royal even though the whole crowd have obviously tried to dress impress.

It's not always about the £££ of the clothes, they are the whole package of course - hair, deportment, manner, figure, make up, jewelry, good living, ect. However i find it fascinating to try to pin point what they've done so 'right' with their basic outfit and what those around them might be doing 'wrong'. Sounds catty to be comparing like this, but i find it entertaining!

(I readily confirm i would definitely fall straight into the 'Looking like a badly dressed sack of potatoes' category in comparison to the likes of K or M by the way. I'm under no illusions Grin)

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/12/2018 22:19

Those photos are a bit dramatic @CurlyWurlyTwirly! Blenheim is magnificent though, much grander than Buckingham Palace.

The dress/es are beautiful in those wedding shots CurlyWurlyTwirly. (He looks younger than 26 and she looks older than 31).

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/12/2018 22:28

That is a very interesting point Laiste.
There was a picture in a previous thread of Kate being surrounded by Hollywood a listers, eg Reese Witherspoon and Kate was the star.
I think it is the innate confidence which develops from being deferred to for years. Kate & Sophie were middle class girls. There is no doubt over the years; that they have become Royal

Tortycat · 03/12/2018 23:06

oh yes i remember the picture of kate with reece witherspoon. i thought it must be rare for reece to be the one looking dumpy and a bit crumpled! Kate just looks so willowy and serene in that photo. i wonder if, as well as the clothes and hair and her figure, she usually looks poised, whereas the 'commoners' shes with tend to look a bit in awe and scurrying round her. i feel a bit sorry for everyone who buys a new frock, gets their hair done, and then still look like dishevelled spuds despite all the effort!

AhoyDelBoy · 04/12/2018 00:33

I’ll share again since it’s being discussed (and I just love this picture so much!). I agree with all PPs comments. There’s just something so (good) different about Kate although I don’t think she possessed this quality before she was engaged. This photo was taken very early on in their marriage too. I just love the way RW is looking at her 😍

In a million years if I didn't know who was in the photograph above, would I be able to pick out who was royal and who wasn't. What I would notice is that one woman was very tall and very thin and the others all looked at her as if she was saying something noteworthy which I very much doubt while for some absurd reason, they all stood around wringing their hands.

7salmonswimming · 04/12/2018 01:28

That picture of Kate with Reece Witherspoon: firstly, excellent example of Kate’s appalling posture. She could really do with some Alexander technique! If she stood up straight and pushed her shoulder back with her head over her spine and her spine over her pelvis, she’d be a good inch or more taller.

Secondly, all that photo shows, to me, is that Reece Witherspoon is as much a sucker for the British Royal family pretty much the rest of the American population! That look of reverential deference is for a reckoning of the royals. It can’t be for the person herself - unlike HMQ Kate hasn’t actually done anything yet (certainly hadn’t when that photo was taken). What’s to revere?!

SenecaFalls · 04/12/2018 01:41

I think y'all are projecting too much into that picture. All I see is a group of women talking. It usually is the custom to look at the person who is speaking. I also don't think anyone is looking dumpy and crumpled.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/12/2018 04:43

Funnily enough, I was googling to find a picture of Sophie on her engagement day and this article on style transformations of “commoners” becoming royal.
Sophie & Edward both look like they work in Insurance.

Article is a couple of years old, but here are some of the youngest European Royal children. Including the indominitable Mia Tindall

Mia seems as though she wants to tell the photographer to "naff off" as her grandmother famously once did. Smile

Michelle Obama promoting her book in NY
Her hair and make up are flawless. Not 100% sure about her outfit, but she has understandably loosened up since she left the White House.

Grin Curly my DP ‘works in insurance’ as part of a management team. One of his colleagues apparently wears shorts, workers boots and a sports type polo shirt Shock (only in Australia).

BigGreenOlives · 04/12/2018 06:56

One of the reasons the RF look fresher is that they get dressed, arrive at the location, do the meet and greet & then leave. The people who they meet have mainly had to catch public transport and arrive around an hour before the royal guest. If you are somewhere inside you’ll probably still look how you intended, if you’ve been waiting in the heat or rain you won’t. On the occasions I’ve met members of the RF I’ve generally been up since 6:30, arrived at the venue around 8 and been working until everything is slowed down when HRH arrives. I usually change into a pair of heels for the royal visit then switch back once they’ve gone.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/12/2018 07:03

Carole's got a fab figure, hasn't she? How old is she? Early 60s?

@AhoyDelBoy Another uniquely Aussie (or perhaps Southern Hemisphere) look for men is the office or school teacher outfit of shorts with shoes and long socks!

Ive just ordered my dc birthday bits from party pieces. I’ve been ordering from them for years. Long before K& W got together!

It’s certainly interesting that Carole has chosen to speak out. I’ve not read the article yet though but I will probably this weekend.
