Royalty have “rellies”. 🙄

ElspethFlashman · 26/11/2018 13:40

I think this is a pic of the garden after Mgt died. She put up the white trellis which she called a "Garden room". Obviously it looks like it would be even bigger than we can see here.

And this was the view from inside the garden room heading out. I hope to god W+K have ripped down that trellis by now!

So W&K are in Margaret's old apartment? I wonder if they ever get a smell of cigarettes and pink gin and wonder...

( de lurking) re Frogmore Cottage- surely it will take longer than four months or so to convert from staff quarters? Does this imply work has been ongoing for a while? Was the move to K P ever any more than rumour? The building work could just have been routine maintenance that uncovered much more expensive repairs required. ( relurks)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/11/2018 14:28

Tha planning application was posted about the third week of October. Pp posted a link. The decision was probably made in the summer & then plans put into place once the pregnancy was announced.

M&H may well go down to their other house in Great Tew once the baby is born, and until Frogmore is ready.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/11/2018 14:53

Interesting article in the Express analysing the body language of Catherine and Meghan.

How I see it is that as women, they have both had big changes this year. When Meghan arrived, Kate was pregnant and Meghan was the ingénue; figuring out her role.
When Kate had Louis, especially at his christening, she debuted her Anne Boleyn hat and has definitely been more matriarchal and future queen like.
From about the summer, post Trooping of the Colour (Meghan in her blush pink dress) M has been showing her natural more go getting self, which has probably been accelerated by her pregnancy and the success of the Royal Tour.
I don’t think it is so much a split between the brothers, but a divergence in lifestyles and approaches of their wives.

ElspethFlashman · 26/11/2018 15:08

I also found a photo whilst rummaging of W+Ks Balmoral "cottage" (lol, so not a cottage). He's had that for years.

Which begs the question if Harry was gifted a cottage up there too?

"Express.co.uk has contacted Kensington Palace to provide a comment."

Yep, that'll be forthcoming! Grin

"The Duke of Kent was the last British prince to marry a princess. Supposedly she was very conscious of being a blood princess in contrast to her sisters-in-law, the Duchesses of York and Gloucester."

I know I'm hours behind, and being very clueless, but can anyone tell me which Duke of Kent this post by SenecalFalls is about please? TIA

missclimpson · 26/11/2018 15:56

The son of George V and Queen Mary, who was killed in a plane crash during the war. Father of the present Duke.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/11/2018 16:05

An interesting character who apparently shagged anything that moved! He died when Prince Michael was a baby. The current Duke has been Duke since he was about 6!

Bagshot is across the park from Windsor Castle. Sophie and Edward live there, Andrew and Sarah live at Royal Lodge down the road and PP lives in another cottage on the estate

Maybe I'm wrong then, but I thought Philip's "retirement cottage" was at Sandringham?

Harry and Meghan's reported new place will no doubt look lovely when it's done up, but by heck it looks hideous now. And how will 5 bedrooms be enough? If they only have 2 kids (just one would be unusual in the RF) then that's three needed already ... allow one for when mum comes to stay and that doesn't leave much

Plus staff of course - though maybe they'll add an annexe or something for them?

Clionba · 26/11/2018 16:35

Prince Philip lives at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate. The plans for Frogmore do include extensions including an "orangery". There is also a house on the Balmoral Estate for them, but I don't think the Highlands is Meghan's bag?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/11/2018 16:45

The extension sounds sensible in principle, but I wonder if things like an "orangery" will come under essential works which the public will have to pay for, or be regarded as an extra to be funded by H&M? Hmm

And thanks for the info on Wood Farm; I thought I'd seen that he lived at Sandringham ...

Clionba · 26/11/2018 16:52

As I understand, all renovations and alterations come under the terms of the Sovereign Grant ie paid for by the taxpayer. The bill for W&K's KP apartment was £2.5m - although I've seen slightly higher figures.

PawneeParksDept · 26/11/2018 16:58

Yes came to say how bilious the Mail was.

And then later in the piece they basically acknowledge it's so much conjecture.

There was none of this when the Cambridge's went to Anmer

They aren't boys anymore, and everyone needs to get over it

Frankly I'd rather live in a hovel than live anywhere near my sister

Paradyning · 26/11/2018 16:59

Who lives at Adelaide cottage? On the Windsor estate.
I'm aware we may be flagging with GCHQ at the moment.

WipsGlitter · 26/11/2018 17:06

@ElspethFlashman I'm not sure if that is their cottage. It looks like a house in the grounds that anyone can have a look at - we were there last year and you can go and peer in the windows! It's like a museum old house.

Highly recommend a visit to Balmoral and Glamis Castle!

missclimpson · 26/11/2018 17:22

Wood Farm is where Prince John, the learning disabled son of George V and Queen Mary lived for his short life (1905-1919). It is thought that he may have been autistic. He also had epilepsy.

Spudlet · 26/11/2018 17:29

I mean, I love my family and I don't have any sort of rift, but I live 100+ miles away from them and that is just fine. We speak often and visit one another frequently, but living next-door would be a challenge for anyone!

Megan and Kate are just at very different life stages - one married for years with 3 children (and one of them a baby), the other newly married and pregnant with number one. I don't see there's much more to it, to be honest - if W & H were women, would their respective husbands be expected to be instant totes bffs? I suspect not!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/11/2018 17:33

Yes I think Frogmore will be full up as soon as the baby arrives.
Room for M&H, room for baby, room for Nanny, room for police protection officer and room for Doria.
They probably get Frogmore House itself in a couple of years and the "Cottage" will be for their staff and PPO

Clionba · 26/11/2018 17:37

The extensions probably include further bedrooms and staff quarters.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 26/11/2018 17:49

all this cottage chat is reminding me of one of my favourite lines from Sense and Sensibility
