David was never going to "settle down" and marry the right girl

Probably just as well considering his attitude to the Nazis and where that might have led. "Princes at War" by Deborah Cadbury is a fascinating read on the subject

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 18:44

Oh yes, definitely. An all-aroun dodgy 'un!

It is odd to think if he had become king, we probably wouldn’t have a RF. He was unlikely to have had the required attitude to navigate through all the war / post war changes

Emerald Fennell's Dad is the famous jeweller Theo Fennell. Nice touch to give your daughter a jewel name.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 18:52

Just googled Emerald Fennel.
She is way too beautiful to play a young Camilla

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 18:54

The irony of a Daily Mail article on the amount of racist comments about Meghan left on Kensington Palace's Instagram!

Who is the image of PC in this photo?

It's the horse of course Wink

Clionba · 14/11/2018 18:59

Anne was not considered to be a beauty. She was often unfavourably compared to her mother and aunt in their youth. There were lots of mean horse comparisons. I don't remember her ever being considered anything other than 'handsome'.

Butterymuffin · 14/11/2018 18:59

It's not 'real' but Laurie Graham's novel Gone With The Windsors is a very funny, fictionalized version of events around the Abdication as told by an old friend of Wallis's who moves to England and gets to move in Royal circles. Lots of nice (I assume researched) details people here would like. Some of that fits in with some of the ideas about David and Wallis here. A very entertaining read.

Spudlet · 14/11/2018 19:00

The Guardian is carrying an opinion piece basically saying HM should step down and let PC have a crack at kinging.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/nov/14/70-prince-charles-queen-step-aside

Not sure what HM'd make of the suggestion that she should step down before she gets dementia! Hmm

Batteriesallgone · 14/11/2018 19:06

Blimey they keep going with that idea don’t they?

Maybe 10, 15 years ago it would have been a good idea. Now, I think she’s made it clear by her continued behaviour and engagements that she feels she IS Queen as long as she lives and won’t consider abdicating. It’s just disrespectful to keep suggesting it.

Besides, I love HM and her colourful outfits. Camilla is fine, and stylish, but she’s no Queenie.

Enfield as Prince Charles in the Windsors

VanillaSugary · 14/11/2018 19:08

Charles for comparison

VanillaSugary · 14/11/2018 19:09

Oh bollocks https://goo.gl/images/oWDY59

VanillaSugary · 14/11/2018 19:10

Here is Harry Enfield https://www.instagram.com/p/BqK34Zgg2Tm/?utmsource=igshare_sheet&igshid=gd37mp6qppd5

VanillaSugary · 14/11/2018 19:11

Don't open the first two links as they don't work.

queenofarles · 14/11/2018 19:17

I don't know how reliable Susanna De Vries book is, but its very interesting , prince Edward's childhood wasn't a happy one, as a young man he loved to be humiliated by his mistresses and he couldn't possibly produce an heir due to some medical issues, his abdication was more about him and the pressure he was in and not about wallis.

i always wondered if they both regretted their choices?they lived in luxury for sure but it didn't come easy.

i would love to dress George and charlotte in something from bobo choses Grin.

mathanxiety · 14/11/2018 19:20

Wondering if Kate likes a nice wool coat dress because that way she doesn't have to keep a huge supply of coats handy?

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 19:22

I remember watching a documentary about David years ago that says he'd been sexually abused by a nursemaid. The same nursemaid would also pinch or scratch him before presenting him to his parents each evening, so that he was always crying. They then just assumed he was being difficult.

I love that Laurie Graham book. Really funny and completely believable. The world dodged a bullet with the Abdication. A Hitler sympathising King of UK could have seen a very different outcome to WW2.

YearOfYouRemember · 14/11/2018 19:35

Curly - I thought the picture of Anne was very like Zara.

There's a montage of photos of Charles and the DM are headlining it with Nod to Princess Diana, it contains one photo of her with Charles and the boys.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 19:58

Apparently we'll only be getting car shots of tonight's arrivals as it's a private party Angry

Meghan is wearing immense earrings but that's all we can see. Kate's earrings aren't to be sniffed at either and her dress is pink.

I feel cheated!

Hope we get more pics. Looks like Kate may have a one shouldered dress on from that pic. Thanks for posting.

Paradyning · 14/11/2018 20:06

Here's another one

Royal style and gossip: no time to think of a snappy title!
frugalkitty · 14/11/2018 20:08

Yes, I think Kate's dress this evening should be lovely, one shoulder, pink. Wouldn't it be nice if Meghan is in something other than navy or black, a real wow colour for a change?
