I hate that Alessandra Rich dress. But then I shudder at pointy collars in general. And droopy midi length dresses that make everyone look a bit wilted. She has the figure for it, but I still hate the actual dress.

As a card carrying Camilla apologist, I am glad to see her included in the pic.

It's a lovely photo, everyone looks happy and relaxed.

Pic of Kate's dress

It is a lovely photo, very charming. The first one - I'm imagining Prince Andrew has fallen over and they're all having a laugh!
This is the new Royal Family, isn't it?

mmmgoats · 13/11/2018 17:48

@elspethflashman I'm not loving it now either - apparently I only like it on Kate. It doesn't look so pointy on her for some reason, maybe her swishy hair softens it.

Thanks @gooseysgirl

Hihellohi · 13/11/2018 17:52

Why didn’t anyone tell MM about the blue and white theme?!?

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 13/11/2018 17:53

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 13/11/2018 17:54

She's in navy isn't she?

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/11/2018 17:56

I meant to post earlier to say I'm sure someone will complain about Meghan not matching! But she's in navy and white and Camilla is in cream so no big deal.

@mmmgoats YES!! Thank you thank you thank you Flowers

(Home and Away then, NOT Neighbours...)

TipseyTorvey · 13/11/2018 18:05

I love that family photo! I think kate looks good in that dress but if you suffer from large norkage (as I do) then that would NOT work. Kids looks very cute indeed. We did a family shoot in our garden a while back with a lovely photographer that specialises in kids stuff and although it cost a fortune I'm so glad we did it as we never get all four of us looking lovely like that otherwise.

owlshooting · 13/11/2018 18:12

What lovely photos! George looks like he is going to be tall. Louis just gorgeous and edible. Charlotte very sweet.

I had the thought about Camilla being at the heart of it too..

beanaseireann · 13/11/2018 18:13

Looking at those pictures of Charles and family.
So sad Diana never saw her daughters in law or grandchildren.
Yet Camilla who helped break the heart of a 19 year old girl is sitting pretty in the midst of them.
As Jim Royle would say 'Karma my a*se'

VanillaSugary · 13/11/2018 18:19

Hmmm. I agree about the salt into the wound concept. But if K&W are OK with it then we'll just have to suck it up. Still a bit hard to see, though.

user1457017537 · 13/11/2018 18:20

Gooseygirl I absolutely loathe it! What is all the Amish fashion about! I also loathed the Remembrance Day suit. As I said previously it reminded me of the Sally Army uniform.

PawneeParksDept · 13/11/2018 18:22

@ElspethFlashman

Usually I too am a Camilla apologist, I think there's a lot to like.

In this picture though, it's the unity and the happiness, a unity and happiness Diana never knew

ElspethFlashman · 13/11/2018 18:25

She wouldn't be in a photo for Charles 70th anyway though. That doesn't happen with divorced people.

(Well, OK, maybe in Andrew and Fergies case......)

PawneeParksDept · 13/11/2018 18:26

No, of course not but there will be no comparable photo of her with her grandchildren

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/11/2018 18:29

@beanaseirann

I said exactly the same thing about Diana in the last thread.
@IdaBWells wrote this response which I thought was really measured.

Curly I think we all feel naturally very conflicted knowing that Diana was so young and naive and Charles seemed to think he could be married and keep Camilla in any role he wanted, whether that was as a very close friend or mistress. Diana suffered so much in those early years because of C & C’s selfishness basically.

However, it’s 20 years later and Charles and Camilla’s relationship is successful and accepted by all their family. Charles will most likely be King at some point and he clearly copes much better with Camilla at his side, so I think we get a better behaved Charles with Camilla around.

My take on it is that both Diana and Charles we’re both deeply insecure because of absent mothers, they both were looking for a partner to shore them up emotionally but they couldn’t do it for each other. Camilla is willing to be almost the mother/wife figure that Charles clearly needs. She flatters him and builds him up emotionally.

I think William and Harry are being very mature about the whole thing. They accept Camilla but I think they send out signs and signals constantly that their love and loyalty to Diana is unwavering.

AdaColeman · 13/11/2018 18:31

I'm not keen on Kate's Alessandra Rich dress, the white cuffs & collar make it look like a Nanny's uniform, but Kate's lovely smile makes the photo!
It's nice to see Camilla there and having fun with the children, and Charles holding George is a sweet touch. Altogether a successful birthday photo shoot!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/11/2018 18:32

Having subsequently seen William speaking about Charles being an absent grandfather, I guess William would appreciate there is some kind of family unity as represented by that photo.

Who knows, maybe Charles & Diana (weird writing that) would have become friends. She would have remarried some billionaire, had a couple more children and been an international humanitarian....
I still feel sad about Diana 21 years later

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 13/11/2018 18:38

I like Camilla. But it’s more than 20 years later. But then I’ve never been a Diana fan.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 13/11/2018 19:03

As someone on one of the earlier threads said, I think Diana would have been the MIL from hell. I think two such happy and beautiful DILs would have gnawed away at all her insecurities and she would not have enjoyed bring knocked off the top glamorous spot. Don't think she'd warmed to the European lovelies either.

Changing the subject slightly, wouldn't the Queen always have been the heir once her father died and as long as Edward VIII had no children?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/11/2018 19:05

I like Camilla as she is today.
Just don’t like thinking about what Diana went through, especially as she wanted to stay married and doted on her boys.
Everything Camilla is living; Diana would have dreamed of....

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/11/2018 19:19

Changing the subject slightly, wouldn't the Queen always have been the heir once her father died and as long as Edward VIII had no children?

Yes that's right. The sons of her uncles wouldn't have taken precedence, otherwise the current Duke of Gloucester would be king now.
