Here we go again!

Special edition: Eugenie wedding thread

Harry and Meghan have 2 days more in NZ before they head back to London and, if I was her, I'd put on pyjamas, get Netflix fired up, and not leave my bed for several days! William and Kate will be out for a sporty engagement in Essex tomorrow and I'm sure we'll start to see them more as she's now officially back from maternity leave..

No idea what the continental royals are up to but New My Royals (does that title even make sense?) is my go-to link for them!

My experience of having been to numerous parts of the US is that there were fewer what we would consider "normal" size (e.g. UK 10-16) women and many more at one extreme or the other. Especially in places in like New York and LA it was much more "normal" to be either very slender, diet obsessed workout junkies or very over weight.

SeaRabbit · 01/11/2018 14:19

I don't know how much that skirt cost, but it is Givenchy, so you'd think they could have afforded to line it.

It is a lovely outfit though, despite Givenchy's faux pas.

owlshooting · 01/11/2018 14:23

No word anywhere of M and H leaving N Z or what time they land! Anyone know?

FATEdestiny · 01/11/2018 14:27

"normal" size (e.g. UK 10-16) women

Having lost a load of weight this year I've gone down through those sizes (and more). At 5'4", 162cm I did not enter healthy BMI until easily fitting a UK size 10

Interesting that for someone my height (admittedly shorter than Dos and DoC) that most of "normal sized" is in fact overweight.

I honestly don’t think those were Meghan’s pants seen through that skirt. Givenchy quite often do a basque/peplum waist for their pleated skirts (see picture). I think in this case the knit was placed over the top of the peplum and sewn to it rather than being attached under the peplum part.

Fate that's why I " " the normal, my impression is that a much larger percentage of UK women fit into that broad category with those above or below seen as exceptions than in LA/ NY and other parts of the US where the over all average might come out as the same as the UK but more women seem to fit in the size 4,6,8 category or the 18+ (obviously US sizes are different).

I'm tall and hourglass at a UK 10 my BMI is very, very low end healthy or under weight and at a size 14, pushing 16 I'd be top end of the healthy range BMI or slightly over weight.

I hope this link works. It is Kate, talking in her normal voice in Basildon!

LimpyLampy · 01/11/2018 15:50

I’m in the process of losing weight too. At size 12 my BMI was classified as obese. At size 10 it is within range. I could also be size 8 and within range. A lot of the ‘normal/‘average’ sizes are overweight. Of course the sizing is also a problem as there is no consistency between them. I take size 27/28 in jeans and I am a size 12 in many shops and a size 10 in others.

However that said I still think Katel looks underweight.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/11/2018 15:53

I have not heard anyone who speaks like Kate.
It is well spoken but her vowels are really strange
"like" almost sounds like "laike" and I cannot even describe the way she says "game"
Maybe we will hear those vowels in the Crown based in teh 1970s

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/11/2018 15:58

I couldn't get over how posh Carole Middleton's is

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/11/2018 16:03

I thought 'game' sounded perfectly normal and Carol didn't sound posh at all.

Want2bSupermum · 01/11/2018 16:04

She sounds just like most upper middle class girls I was at school with. It's an odd accent if you aren't used to it. There was an article comparing DofC accent to PWs and saying her accent is more upper class than his.

Liz Hurley and Angelina Jolie are both as thin as the DofC. The purple dress made her look thiner because of the sleeves and that she has narrow hips. I'd love hips that narrow. For all the width of my hips I didn't carry my babies that well.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/11/2018 16:12

I didn't go to the same sort of school as Kate, so I hand't heard anyone from public school speak like her.
Carole, I meant posh bearing in mind she got so much flack for being a former air hostess and was born in a council house.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/11/2018 16:25

Pippa and James are well-spoken and sound upper middle class, but Kate's accent is different and sounds like she's trying to sound even more upper class.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/11/2018 16:27

Her accent doesn't sound very natural, whereas listen to an old clip of Diana and she sounds genuinely upper-class and natural.

Joining in with the weight thing, I've recently lost 1.5 stones and the NHS still has me as overweight. It says I should be 7stone 13 - 10 stone 11. I'm about five foot five. No way would I be able to achieve the lower weight even if I wanted too. So confusing.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/11/2018 16:51

Here's a link to share all the weight loss stories

CoachBombay · 01/11/2018 16:57

Evening all, interesting conversation on DofC. My opinion is, yes she has got slimmer over the years, but I would say she is at the lower end of a healthy BMI.

Me I'm 5ft2 and a size 12-14. But will be dropping down to a 10 over the next few weeks. For me to be in the lower end of a healthy BMI I need to be a size UK4 and I just haven't the willpower that takes, I've been there before and it was exhausting. I'm also absolutely tiny almost childlike at that size due to my height. DH has seen pictures of me as a size 4 and actually said "no, your not getting that small, I don't find it attractive. So I'll settle on a 10. Lol

owlshooting · 01/11/2018 16:59

I think Kate's voice sound straining to sound 'posh' and it's a shame. Her mother's voice sounds very natural, but she sounds like she's trying to speak like the Queen forty years ago. It grates.

itswinetime · 01/11/2018 17:04

I agree I think Carol, Pipa and James have a nice accent and Kate's does seem somewhat forced these days not sure if that's is because she is/has actively tried to change it or if it happens when your surrounded by people with the more traditional upper class accent all the time?

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 01/11/2018 17:11

Lots of the dcs friends sound like Kate. They went to a very upper middle class school not dissimilar to Marlborough.

GrumbleBumble · 01/11/2018 17:13

I was wasn't making a value judgement on 10-16 as healthy or otherwise more that I would say for example 50 percent of women in the UK would be in this sort out r bracket (which would be health or overweight for most of them) with say 10per cent in smaller than that (under weight or healthy weight for most of them) and the rest being 18+ which for most people (unless they are very muscular) would make them over weight or obese whereas in the US it seemed like there were more women in both the upper and lower groups and fewer in the middle. However I've not been to the US for about a decade now and with rising average weights here that might no longer the impression I would get.

thornyhousewife · 01/11/2018 17:16

I just walked past Princess Anne. She looked amazing in a red blazer on a grey drizzly afternoon in London.

mmmgoats · 01/11/2018 17:26

I love Princess Anne @thornyhousewife
Red blazer sounds excellent
