Not wild about the dress and the shoes just look silly and too big to me!! She looks like she’s finally got over the jet lag!

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/10/2018 17:05

I posted the Charles article earlier in haste as I was rushing off somewhere so I've only just read it now. I really don't know what he's hoping to achieve, especially as a future extract will cover Harry's pre-wedding "meltdown", hardly something to endear him to his sons.

And how much more can there be left to say about Diana that hasn't already been said? Best to let sleeping dogs lie really.

What did surprise me was W&H saying they had very few memories of their mother, as they were teenagers (at least William was, Harry might've been 12) when she died.

Meghan really looks like Julia Roberts in that Invictus video!

I like that green dress, and the shoes. And the hair, I do personally prefer less scraped back styles on just about anyone.

What Megan Wore has some nice images from the games themselves and some little stories about some of the athletes. This is a really worthwhile thing that Harry has done.

Clionba · 27/10/2018 17:24

William and Harry were at boarding school, and didn't spend much of the holidays with Diana. Remember when she died, 31st August, they hadn't seen her since July, and were due to go back to school. Before she died, there were criticisms of her not seeing much of her sons, but cruising in the Med with her boyfriend.

All time favourite threads.

I'm related to the last King of Ireland according to my uncle.

I was attacked by someone who worked for PC.

I think I need to leave.

owlshooting · 27/10/2018 18:27

Actually, having looked at it again, I like the green dress and shoes more. I suspect she has very narrow feet, so a lot of shoes look like boats on her.

YearOfYouRemember · 27/10/2018 18:29

Queen - the article did say they remembered more than they realised once they got going after saying to the producers not to expect too much from them.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/10/2018 18:58

Yes I saw that but just thought it was a bit strange they'd claim, even just initially, that they had few memories of her. Especially when you consider how she was always so careful to project the image of a devoted mother.

itswinetime · 27/10/2018 19:07

I wonder if a more accurate description would be memories they are willing to share? Just caught up the green dress is alright nothing special but nothing really wrong with it! The Charles boom looks like it is going to cause lots of problems unless the mail have twisted things to make the best bullet point quotes

TipseyTorvey · 27/10/2018 19:08

I really like the green dress actually but I think she's struggling a bit with the sudden body shape change. I think a pp said it before but she was sooo skinny she could wear anything before and now she's developing a bum, boobs and curves she's going to struggle a bit like the rest of do I suppose to look sleek. Kate never put on an ounce but we're not all that lucky (or have that will power). I put on 4 stone with the second pregnancy and was total weeble just wearing smocks for the last 4 months. So glad no-none cared what I looked like!

I wonder if this is Meghan? Welcome to Mumsnet, love!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 27/10/2018 19:15

I get that this book is supposed to be for PC's birthday but the timing just feels like sour grapes to me, an attempt to pull the focus back to him at a time when the boys' are incredibly popular with the public. I'd say support for the crown missing Charles and going straight to William is stronger than its ever been (I know it won't happen, but still). Just feels like standard PoW petulance.

Literally no-one cares about his side of the story and that must infuriate him. But very few people care about what happened 20 years ago either!

SenecaFalls · 27/10/2018 19:26

That thread is pretty funny, Vanilla. I was actually thinking about this today at the dog park: what if Megan is inclined to follow some American naming tendencies. It was very hard to distinguish the dog names from the children's names.

Lady Stormi Mountbatten-Windsor, indeed.Smile

owlshooting · 27/10/2018 20:17

The thing is I actually don't think you can believe most of what the media report or what is written in books unless they are authorised. I am not sure if PC authorised it or not. I can't imagine that he would embarrass his children by revealing anything about their feelings or what they said about what for a start. If it is true and authorised, I think it's shameful and in very poor taste.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/10/2018 20:35

I thought the reason the Mail are making a big deal about it is because it is authorised? There's loads of royal family bios that come out all the time but it's usually only the credible ones that they give coverage to.

@QueenOfTheAndals people forget that they boarded full time from 7. Then the split left a total of just over 90 days to be split between C and D so just over 40 days a year each. They were raised by the pastoral team at their schools

I strongly suspect that George won't board before 11, possibly even 13.

Cornwall73 · 27/10/2018 21:03

They staying boarding at 7?! Shock

Cornwall73 · 27/10/2018 21:03

Started

PawneeParksDept · 27/10/2018 21:18

Having just googled it says "weekly boarded from 8" though I'm sure I've read 7. Year 3 essentially.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 27/10/2018 21:24

It’s fairly typical I would have thought for children to board from 7/8 years old.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 27/10/2018 21:25

Missed the words “in those circles”. I know a few people who did.

PawneeParksDept · 27/10/2018 21:29

Yes it's definitely the done thing in that class or it still was in the 80s. I have a feeling boarding that young will die out in this generation of upper parents.

There is a memorable moment in Jack Whitehall's program when visibly upset about it he wants to know why his father sent him away at 8. Whenever he gets upset he switches to "Daddy" which I found both telling and sad.

Maintaining "status quo" is less important for this generation I think.

Spudlet · 27/10/2018 21:31

Blimey, that's young. I know it's the done thing in certain circles, but it's still very young.

I wonder if the current generation will carry on with this, or if they'll keep their children at day schools until they're older? I can't imagine it being terribly well received in PR terms, were George and Charlotte to be shipped off from year three, even if 'only' on a weekly basis.

VanillaSugary · 27/10/2018 21:33

My brother full boarded from age 7 and a few boys from my DS's school went off to full board in Year 4. It still happens.
