Harry & Meghan have arrived in Sydney.
The purple folders coordinating with her coat will not slow down speculation...

I think a boat is the one place where even Meghan wouldn't wear heels!

GrumbleBumble · 21/10/2018 11:10

user she may well have had a veil that was ditched last minute due to the high winds.

legolammb · 21/10/2018 11:13

Some nasty comments in the news about her tiredness - someone claiming they stayed at work whilst in labour to finish their working day Hmm I hope she feels better after some rest, it does sound an exhausting schedule with the jet lag as well.

I can see why she's sticking to her monochrome palette - people have been so critical that it would make her a bit nervous about wearing anything too bright as people would say she's trying to take the spotlight. I think she wants to be taken seriously as well - she's gone for some quite business-like outfits.

Agree that it's lovely to see their enthusiasm for Invictus and the projects they've visited - they seem very warm and human.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/10/2018 11:31

When are they off to Fiji? There's not been an announcement about whether they're both going or not. I feel for Meghan - obviously she'll want to go, but the risk of Zika must be terrifying. And if she pulls out because of that then it won't look good from a diplomatic point of view.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 21/10/2018 11:36

If Eugenie had worn a veil her scar would have been hidden.

Spudlet · 21/10/2018 11:47

someone claiming they stayed at work whilst in labour to finish their working day

Bloody hell - is it just me that wants to say 'More fool you then!' to martyrs like that?!

I like her wardrobe, it's v sleek and businesslike IMO. She said she wants to be a woman who works - she's certainly dressing like one.

WipsGlitter · 21/10/2018 11:49

I think they have said she is going to Fiji and they sought appropriate medical advice. But people are expecting a last minute announcement that she's not going to go.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/10/2018 11:50

That thread has now been taken down. And as you say @Spudlet, that's hardly something to be boast about, and any employer who doesn't send a woman in labour home should be ashamed of themselves!

mmmgoats · 21/10/2018 12:36

I've been lurking but thought I'd pop in to say hi.
Although the colours haven't been anything striking, I think Meghan has done well to look business-like and understated. I think she's well aware of the criticism she's been getting and knows that any bright colours or intricate design would end up in accusations of her trying to steal the spotlight away from the games. I don't think she can win whatever she does at the moment tbh! So it's nice to see this thread that's just focused on pleasant discussion.

I really liked the Wickstead, and I actually like her blazer/jackets look, I think it really suits her. I do think her ill-fitting shoes sometimes ruin her outfits, but think so far they've been good choices on this tour apart from the style of the flats on the beach - although I can see why she chose them considering the company ethos and how they're made.

SilentIsla · 21/10/2018 12:40

Her use of muted colours is to be applauded. She looks great.

SenecaFalls · 21/10/2018 12:58

I also think Princess Anne knows what suits her more than any stylist she could employ.

Princess Anne also adds the very appealing aspect of obviously not giving a damn about what anyone else thinks.

Clionba · 21/10/2018 13:00

SenecaFalls ha ha! You're not wrong there!

beanaseireann · 21/10/2018 15:08

I disagree with the poster who says Princess Anne knows what suits her.
What she wants to wear and what might suit her are not always compatible.
She's not stylish.
The pashmina she wore to Eugenie's wedding did not match her outfit. Hmm
I'd say she couldn't care less.

PawneeParksDept · 21/10/2018 15:28

I saw on the front of the paper in the supermarket just now that Meghan has "stolen a nanny from the Clooneys" for Baby Sussex

I wish they wouldn't come up with this crap just to disparage her it's so unfair but

"Rich woman recommends good employee to similarly wealthy friend"

Simply doesn't have the same ring to it

Moononthehill28 · 21/10/2018 15:31

Despite the fact another paper was trumpeting in about how she wouldn’t be using a nanny in preference to her mother! They just make things up.

EmGee · 21/10/2018 16:06

I like Meghan's look. It suits her. She has such lovely colouring and such a beautiful face, she really can get away with muted colours.

LimpyLampy · 21/10/2018 16:53

Yes Princess Anne doesn’t seem to give a shit but... she also is not a good looking woman yet she wears clothes that suit what we know if her personality. Straight speaking no frills.. They might not be very nice clothes but they are ‘hers’. Megan is both beautiful and stylish and also wears clothes that suit her. Neither appear ‘trussed up’. I think you either like that or you don’t. I can’t stand Kate’s ‘look’ though sometimes she wears very beautiful dresses. Even the bouncing Barbie style hair is trussed up.

SamanthaBrique · 21/10/2018 16:59

Meghan never looks like she's trying too hard or that the clothes are wearing her. The York princesses are the epitome of trying too hard.

Clionba · 21/10/2018 17:04

I always think that the clothes never wear Meghan, in other words they don't dominate her personality. It's the opposite with the York women. I'd be really interested to see Meghan's royal banquet look with a full length gown and tiara. If ever.

YearOfYouRemember · 21/10/2018 17:26

Good points about Beatrice and Eugenie - they employed one of the most expensive stylists around, very expensive bespoke pieces - still not nailed it, or only rarely.

Then isn't it the stylists's fault if the women don't look good iyo?

Clionba · 21/10/2018 17:34

That's an interesting point. Sack the stylist? Not wear what she suggests if you don't feel comfortable? Wear something safer but you feel better?

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/10/2018 17:39

Or perhaps they don't listen to the stylist anyway and think that as "blood princesses" they know best!

RosinaAlmaviva · 21/10/2018 17:46

The Stella dress reminds me of this one worn by Marilyn Monroe after her marriage to Arthur Miller. It was from the Prince and the Showgirl era and Michelle Williams wore similar in My Week With Marilyn. Of course the fit is much tighter than for Meghan and it's a darker colour but it still rang a bell for me.

She said she wants to be a woman who works - she's certainly dressing like one.

I think you have it, spudlet, that is exactly the image Meghan wants to project. I think the rest of the tour will be more of the same although I'm still hoping for a glamorous evening gown at some point.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/10/2018 18:24

A distant relative of mine was in The Price and the Showgirl - he played Laurence Olivier's son.

SenecaFalls · 21/10/2018 18:34

Anne may not be conventially good-looking, but having stayed in good physical shape, when she gets a style choice right, she looks very good indeed.
