Harry & Meghan have arrived in Sydney.
The purple folders coordinating with her coat will not slow down speculation...

I find Meghan's style more suited to a woman in her late 30s than Kate's. Kate does casual really well but for more formal events often picks stuff several years too old for her.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/10/2018 07:21

Harry has definitely improved his style since he’s been with Meghan. He also looks leaner and more toned. I wonder if she has introduced him to yoga.
But it’s his happiness which is the transforming factor. I cannot wait to see him with his own child.

Yes it's wonderful to see him so happy, especially as we can all remember the forlorn little boy walking behind his mum's coffin.

Mind you, I'm not sure Diana would've been the easiest of MiLs - Kate and Meghan would've been on AIBU everyday!

frugalkitty · 18/10/2018 07:35

Yes I agree about Kate, she does dress more formally than her age, very mother of the bride, but I think as it's been said on here before that it's a uniform for her. Also agree about how radiant Harry looks, he's going to be a great dad, very hands on I exleft.

frugalkitty · 18/10/2018 07:36

Exleft??? What even is that? That should have read 'expect'

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/10/2018 07:38

I wonder if the stories about Doria moving to London might have more substance now? Carole Middleton appears to be a huge help to Kate and despite having lots of nannies, it's nice to have a grandparent around to help out. I'm sure Charles loves his grandkids but I can't see him being particularly hands on!

Clionba · 18/10/2018 07:45

I was thinking about Meghan's hair and the straightening. Does anyone on here know how it's done, and if it's true about risks in pregnancy? (my hair is poker straight, so I've no idea!)

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/10/2018 07:49

I remember when I had Brazilian blow dries they weren't recommended during pregnancy because of the fumes.

The bottom line is that these things aren't recommended because no one knows the side-effects, not because they necessarily have adverse ones - there's no tests conducted on pregnant women, for obvious reasons! I'm sure whatever Meghan does, she'll be getting the best advice available.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/10/2018 07:50

Whole article about her hair. Warning it is in DM for those who want to avoid it.

Frugal I agree with you. Meghan looks impeccable always, and hugely stylish. But I am sick of seeing navy, black, khaki etc. Even though those are the colours I wear...

I love Kate's style and most especially her up dos. Her one for Eugenie's wedding had the most gorgeous side view.

Harry looks so good in navy!

Jackietheduck · 18/10/2018 08:39

The notion that Kate has a uniform was dreamed up on MN. It doesn’t mean it is true. She wears jeans but like the rest of us, we can’t wear jeans everywhere. We all have to dress in more formal clothes at times. She does not exactly ooze style. She may well love mother of the bride type clothes. I think it’s safe to say she has a say in it.

Spudlet · 18/10/2018 08:41

I like that navy dress, that is nice. I like her coat too.

They both look so happy, it's lovely. I remember watching Harry and William walking behind Diana's coffin and my heart just breaking for them, it's wonderful to see them both seeming so happy now, with their families. They should never have been asked to go through that, they were too young to be put through that, with so many people watching. It was cruel, imo.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/10/2018 10:46

Harry has himself said that no child should be put through the same experience. I think the therapy he has had in probably his late 20s has opened him up to marry someone like Meghan rather than his former type.

I wouldn't be surprised if William has had therapy too, but he is much more cagey about his privacy.

I would hope that in the 20odd years that have passed, if Diana had lived whe would be in a good place to be a supportive MIL.

Kate has always dressed conservatively and older than her age. I remember that coat and hat outfit she wrote to Williams passing out parade when she was just his girlfriend, I think it’s her style. I really do hope William and Harry are happy now, they had quite a disfunctional upbringing, didn’t they? I do always get the impression that William isn’t particularly happy with his role, he gave an interview a year or so ago where I thought he came across quite negatively in terms of how he viewed everything. Harry has the better deal, much more freedom when not in direct succession.

Pupsiecola · 18/10/2018 13:04

I'm not a heels wearer. I don't know how people wear them for hours on end. And I guess under a desk is one thing, but how on earth does Meghan wear them for hours on end whilst working the crowd, especially when walking on grass. Not to mention all the small talk, and 3-4 months pg. Ugh. Exhausts me just thinking about it.

Elledorado · 18/10/2018 13:08

I thought this too Pupsiecola. I live in Melbourne and had "live" updates via news and fb all day, and thought it just looked so exhausting! The heels, the small talk, the footy .... ugh.

OlennasWimple · 18/10/2018 13:16

I can see Kate wearing the same clothes throughout her whole life. In 30 years time, MNers will be posting that she is canny to re-wear clothes over such a long period and how admirable it is, just like we currently do with Princess Anne.

Pupsiecola · 18/10/2018 13:40

I agree Elle. I'm somewhere between an extrovert and introvert, as I suspect most people are, and can swing between them depending on how I'm feeling, hormones etc. I crave time by myself/just with close family much of the time, especially if I've had to be very sociable. I can't imagine a week of their life, let alone two, with jetlag on top!

EmGee · 18/10/2018 14:39

Crumbs, those photos of Rania are awful. Her face looks plastic and shiny. Why do these beautiful women do this to themselves???? I get that they must feel under pressure but do they not look at photos of themselves and think 'Oh dear, I overdid it there' ?????

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/10/2018 17:16

Not sure we've ever covered the Luxembourg royals here, but the Grand Duke reminds me SO much of Richard Chamberlain circa The Thornbirds. And her coat is very Meghan-ish!

Horsemad · 18/10/2018 17:40

Shock He IS very like Richard Chamberlain!

beanaseireann · 18/10/2018 18:12

Queen yes he is very like Richard Chamberlain.
Perhaps you have stumbled upon something.
Off with your head !!!!
Wink

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/10/2018 18:26

I loved the Thorn Birds

Just going back to pp, I love the idea of Kate rewearing her clothes in 30 years time. We’ll still be on here critiquing her.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/10/2018 18:46

I hope Meghan packs away that raincoat for the rest of the trip. It is getting really boring.
I’m a bit confused about where she’s been on what day now.
Was Dubbo in Jeans Yesterday? And in Melbourne, she wore the navy dress and heels in the morning and the black club Monaco dress with flats on the beach in the afternoon.
This is why she needs to mix up her outfits a bit more; otherwise the photos are going to be too same_y.

It’s a technique used by famous people to be photographed... or not.
If Madonna didn’t want to be photographed; she would don and Adidas tracksuit.

I definitely preferred Kate’s outfits when she visited Australia and New Zealand

Kate’s clothes were really colourful in the Pacific Islands. If Meghan does go to Fiji etc, I am desperate for her to wear some colour.

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 18/10/2018 19:02

Delurking to say I'm also tired of that trench coat. It looks a bit strange tbh.

I know Kate gets criticised for her safe and supposedly boring choices, but looking through those photos of her NZ and Australian tour, I think there are some great outfits there. I love that white broderie anglaise dress.
