UGG boots? What's the general consensus?

I'd like to get a pair but I've heard mixed things. Are they worth the money? Are they suitable for someone who's in their late 20s? Thanks Smile

This is the pair I would probably get.

My short chestnut Ugg Australia boots are 6 years old and I still wear them for things like supermarket trips and travelling as they're in great condition after so many winters. That said I don't know if I'd buy any now - not sure why exactly. I do have some Celtic and Co ones which, because they were never a particular fashion fad, don't look like I've dragged them out the back of the wardrobe out of lack of imagination.

If you do want some, ignore people who say they slop over to one side at the heel, because the expensive brands don't!

Thanks both ☺️ could do with a few more opinions before I take the plunge Grin

I had Uggs about twelve years ago. I didn't like them:

  • They completely lost their structure and went all lopsided
  • They stink if you get them wet
  • The dye from my blue jeans rubbed off and coloured the wool around the top green
  • They leaked after a really short time, partly because of the lopsided-ness.

Above all of that, though, for me, is the fact that they are really really old fashioned now.

Sorry.

Bluntness100 · 05/10/2018 14:31

They are seen as slippers in Australia, but people here wear them as outdoor footwear. I think because they were so ubiquitous at one point they fell out of fashion, and were seriously frowned upon as "chavvy" , and I suspect still are. The fact there are so many knock offs doesn't help.

JustBecauseYouAreUniqueDoesNot · 05/10/2018 14:33

I wouldn't buy them anymore because they look a bit naff. Did when they were fashionable and only more so now they are not. I still wear the ones I own sometimes because they are very comfy but they go lopsided and the sheepskin inside wears away quickly. I'd look for sheepskin lined normal boots along the lines of the link upthread.

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 05/10/2018 14:35

I think they’re fine for keeping your feet warm taking the bins out or wearing around the house as slippers. But not out and about. They’re bloody awful. On par with crocs.

MrsCar · 05/10/2018 14:37

I'm wearing mine right now Grin

I wear them for warmth and comfort, definitely not for style

Spanglylycra · 05/10/2018 14:39

I loved mine, bought in New York ten years ago. Wore them for about 7 years. No quality issues. I think some can look old fashioned but it depends what you wear them with. The ones you are looking at are nice.

BadderWolf · 05/10/2018 14:50

Yes, Uggs = slipper in Oz (i'm an ozzy) and in all honesty I am internally LMAO when I see people wear them outdoors here. Sorry.

Laughing that is until I just clicked on the link above and saw how much they are costing these days. Astonishing.

TokyoSushi · 05/10/2018 14:54

I don't think that I'd buy any new now but mine are about 5 years old and still great for the school run or similar when it's really cold!

Bluntness100 · 05/10/2018 15:08

I got these from lk bennet last year, they are a bit longer and neater than an ugg but a similar kind of thing.

Maybe have a look around and see other sheepskin boots as, although mine are unlikely to be what you're looking for, there is a shit ton of styles on the market and you might find something else you like that's a bit less, well ugg like, but still meet what you're looking for.

foxtiger · 05/10/2018 15:12

I wouldn't get the "classic" Ugg style because I think they would be much too wide on me, but I don't hate them on other people. I think they do some gorgeous boots in other styles, and I would probably have had a pair or two by now if my budget was bigger.

3stonedown · 05/10/2018 15:33

Mine are about 10 years old, got them as a teenager. I wear them once every couple of years when I have been out all night dancing and I can't walk from blisters. They are heaven for that. But only to take the bins out and get a takeaway, really unstylish IMO sorry! I wouldn't buy any now.

Elephantinacravat · 05/10/2018 15:35

I love mine, I don't care if they aren't stylish or whatever!

I wouldn't put them in the same category as crocs, if only because at one time UGGS were really fashionable and crocs never have been!

indianwoman · 05/10/2018 15:51

Proper uggs, fine, cheap version, no.

hmmmcars · 05/10/2018 16:17

Hideous footwear. Always were. Wouldn't be seen dead in them. Same with crocs and high heeled trainers.

MustBeThin · 05/10/2018 16:31

I wear uggs but not the slipper looking boots. I have 2 pairs of Bonham boots and 2 pairs of adirondack iii.

Hmmingbird · 05/10/2018 16:47

I've got the Ugg Wilcox boots, literally lived in them last year. Don't look like Ugg boots at all Smile

Bluntness100 · 05/10/2018 16:50

Meh, I think uggs look comfy and warm. Yes they are rather ugly and club foot like. As said, I went for a boot that I felt was a bit more elegant, but to be fair I also have crocs, although they are just for the garden and I wouldn't wear them as my shoe of choice out, as they are just as ugly.

I have an Aussie friend, who wears them as slippers, and that and the reputation they now have, and all the knock off versions about, stops me buying them, I'd feel I was wearing my slippers outside and wouldn't be able to shrug the feeling off. Same if I was out in my garden shoes. I couldn't really afford to by uggs just as slippers and would resent the cost.

High heeled trainers are indeed an abomination though.🤣

PuppyMonkey · 05/10/2018 16:53

Ugg do much nicer “normal” leather boots these days, I have a pair of black biker style which are fab. I wouldn’t get the fluffy ones - they’re really naff and dated I think.

LostMyBaubles · 05/10/2018 16:56

Love uggs.
Obv depends on what you wear them with

Im looking to buy the black ones from their new collection

My last pair are still ok but need a fresh pair. Got my old ones around 5yrs ago

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 05/10/2018 17:01

Only if you promise to walk properly in them and not scuff along like everyone else seems to

scuff scuff scuff scuff scuff

Racecardriver · 05/10/2018 17:02

I am Australian so I know these things. Ugh boots are 100% worth it if you have hard floors/don't use heating much and will last between 4 and 10 winters. Be warned though. They are slippers not shoes (common mistake British people make) BUT they have special rules unlike normal slippers. So generally they must only be worn inside unless you are going out but not getting out if the car (E. G. Drive thru), you are sick and going to a supermarket/pharmacy within a mile a and half of your house to buy things associated with being sick or you are under 25 and sitting an exam.
