UGG boots? What's the general consensus?

I'd like to get a pair but I've heard mixed things. Are they worth the money? Are they suitable for someone who's in their late 20s? Thanks Smile

Ive had my ugg biker boots for four years now. I really want new boots but the fuckers wont die! I havent looked after them. I reckon they have at least another year - bastards.

Im less keen on the traditional styles nut they look comfy

gothicsprout · 06/10/2018 07:26

While this topic is here, does anyone know if you can replace the soles/heels on Ugg Wilcox-type boots? I keep meaning to take mine in somewhere to ask but it looks like they might be a single unit you can’t do anything with Sad

mumto2babyboys · 06/10/2018 07:34

Well its usually the poorer areas you see people wearing these types of footwear is it not and they are also so 10 years ago and ugly. Much nicer options that won’t make you look like a chav!

Racecardriver · 06/10/2018 07:42

@BifsWif I'm Australia we barely have a class system but ugg boots are one of about four class indicators. They are one of the most class marking objects of footwear of all time

Racecardriver · 06/10/2018 07:43

@batshite I think you may care even less if you knew that in Australia flip flops are called thongs Wink

MrsFoxPlus4 · 06/10/2018 07:45

As long as they are real Ugg’s and not fake primark uggs that people tend to walk on the sides off. I think they look horrific but I’m still gonna wear the cosey things!

batshite1 · 06/10/2018 07:47

Racecardriver of course I’m aware of that, but as this is a not an Australian forum I used our terminology.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 06/10/2018 07:51

Why on earth do Australians need slippers? Don't they just live in flip flops and bikinis?

SinglePringle · 06/10/2018 07:54

I have two pairs and never wear them out of the house. Haven’t for ahout 8 years. They are expensive slippers. Both pairs are around 10 years old and are in great condition.

BifsWif · 06/10/2018 07:57

I’m not sure if it’s the same in the UK racecardriver.

Judging someone based on their footwear, and using words such as chav and implying only poor people wear them is laughable. You’re showing your snobbery and ignorance mum.

RebelRogue · 06/10/2018 08:22

Given the price of them I don't know how much real Uggs and poor people mix.

Ellapaella · 06/10/2018 08:32

UGGS are brilliant for camping. Honestly the best thing for keeping for feet toasty warm in the tent/camper van.

MrsMozart · 06/10/2018 08:38

I have three pais and love them. Don't care what other folks think about them.

I've the 'normal' shortish ones with a button thing. Short dark waxy type type (great when it's wet. And a sort of biker pair, which I saw recommended by MNers a year or so ago and they're grand for winter.

All get used as quick pull on and go just about anywhere boots.

MudCity · 06/10/2018 08:42

Another Celtic & Co fan here. Very similar to Uggs. Have lasted me years and I wear them all the time.

I love all my sheepskin / furry boots....my genuine ones and my fake ones. Wear them from October to March.

I’m not a chav.

twoheaped · 06/10/2018 08:45

Awful, ugly, they don't look supportive as the people I see wearing them appear to drop in at the ankles.
They do seem to do "proper" boots but they don't appear to have caught on like the shapeless club footed ones.

ree348 · 06/10/2018 08:48

Love mine they keep my feet so nice and warm! They aren't attractive looking though and always make sure you store them in their box and get the protective spray too.

Sofialemon · 06/10/2018 09:01

I don't get the Uggs are slippers thing. Even the classic Uggs have quite a chunky, sturdy sole, I wouldn't want to lounge around the house in them. Surely you would buy a pair of actual sheepskin slippers?

I've got a few pairs, my first pair are about 12 years old now and I still wear them. They weren't particularly fashionable when I got them, then they were everywhere (though mostly the shitty fake ones that go lopsided) and now I don't personally think think they're fashionable or not. To me they're just a warm, practical boot that I love to wear for the school run when it's freezing. I've worn mine in rain and snow and they're fine.

If you like them I'd buy them, they're expensive but they last for years.

FortniteIsTheNewCrack · 06/10/2018 09:23

I have Raynaud's and love Uggs. I have tried every kind of thermal sock and sheepskin insole etc going but nothing keeps my toes cosy like Uggs.

I have to buy them second hand (I buy decent pairs from EBay in the summer when they are cheap) and I waterproof them with Kiwi spray.

I like the Bailey ones with bows and prefer long ones. Also like the crochet/knitted ones. Would adore a pair of the bikers/leather ones but even second hand they are too £££.

I honestly do not give one single fuck if people judge me as lower class. I am not having cold toes which look like candle-wax and hurt so much I cry, just to avoid people thinking I am a "chav" - says more about them than me. I'm not a fan of women judging other women for their clothing choices, as a rule, really.

dudsville · 06/10/2018 09:50

I bought ugg ankle boots in leather with the sheepskin lining for winter. They are water repellant (where as the suede and color of your op will age quickly) and small so don't look line the traditional house shoe style. I love them. My feet never get cold! That is important to me.

dudsville · 06/10/2018 09:51

Ooh and mine have a zip for a closer fit.

Notquiteagandt · 06/10/2018 10:15

I have waxed leather short ones. They arent quite as chunky or obviously ugg.

I wear them for pottering about running the shop gym etc. I dont claim they are fashionable but easy to throw on.

mumto2babyboys · 06/10/2018 10:24

Unless it is just for comfort at home why would you want to wear out of date style boots that have a reputation of being worn by chavs and that.

Kate Middleton wears some inexpensive clothing and recycles her shoes but uggs do have a bad reputation.

I mean I’ve heard other mums say ‘she was wearing Ugg’s!’ As an insult not in a nice way.

Would not be seen dead in them personally and I think they do no one any favours they always look scruffy and the trend for them being in fashion was over years ago!

FortniteIsTheNewCrack · 06/10/2018 10:52

Well Mum I choose to place my comfort and warm feet over superficial appearances and other peoples' opinions of me.

Personally I don't give a single fuck about judgement from the type of people that think I should conform to trends so they don't think I'm a "chav".

Do you judge other women by all their clothing choices or just by their footwear preference?

HashTagLil · 06/10/2018 11:01

I have never liked the traditional uggs (that look like slipper boots) tbh.

Same here, I like their 'boot' boots. Very warm and comfortable. I usually buy them from M and M as they're cheaper but last seasons.

batshite1 · 06/10/2018 11:05

mumto2babyboys I’d rather wear my Uggs (for certain occasions) then dress like KM. The classic ugg style like many items of clothing is not fashionable, cool, etc but they serve a purpose. If you avoid pairing them with jogsets I’m sure you’ll avoid the look of horror from other mums in their nude court shoes 😒
