40

Rosina - snap up one of those Shalimars in the fancy bottle while you can. Guerlain are apparently going to put all their perfumes into the same shape bottle.

Oh, thanks for the tip BookMe! I will do exactly that. Angry at Guerlain, that is sacrilege.

Vent Vert is one of my desert island top 10s.

Which formulation? I only found out about Vent Vert because a Bond girl wore it in one of the 1950s Ian Fleming novels (think it was Live and Let Die). Tracked it down in Harrods and it was the version with the little polka dot ribbon/green plastic stopper. I liked it but subsequently realised that it had been reformulated since the 50s and it's now gone into another incarnation with a glittery golf ball stopper, which I haven't tried.

Should try Charlie again. My taste as a teenager must have been more discerning than I remember!

Ginslinger · 04/10/2018 20:39

jo malone - lime basil and mandarin - how old does that make me?

figelnarage · 04/10/2018 20:44

I also wore Miracle, Romance etc. in late 20s. I like D&G The One, have been wearing it for a few years. Perhaps it's time for a change...suggestions??

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2018 20:46

Gosh yes my life in perfume

Body shop white musk as a teen, then Poison, shalimar, red door, tres jourdan, ysatis, cabotine, tresor,

Then into my forties, Burberry body for a few years,, then Laura mercier ambre and vanille body lotion, Burberry London ( a gift last year but I unexpectedly love it) now as said previously Laura mercier ambre and vanille But the body soufflé not the perfume, and a spritz of one of the burberries if I'm going out of an evening.

I remember being gutted when tres jourdan was discontinued. 🤣

woodhill · 04/10/2018 20:49

One perfume I wear is Lancôme la vie est belle but then so does my dd who is early 20s

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 04/10/2018 21:16

Rosina, I have a tiny prism of Vent Vert which I think is 70s and a spray which is late 70s.

Lime Basil Mandarin- mid 30s.

My life in perfume:
Teens: Anaïs Anaïs, Givenchy III, Avon Moonwind, Kiku, Charlie
20s: Obsession, Ysatis, Poison, Dune, Chloe (original Lagerfeld) Eau de Gucci, Dioressence, Paris
30s Obsession, Angel, Allure
40s Angel, Happy,
Now have about 150 and favourites change daily!

I loved Cabotine as a late teen, early 20s. It was so cheap and I used to get so many compliments on it.

Might try and hunt it out.

Jamiesons · 04/10/2018 23:34

Miracle - you’ve got to be about 40. I remember it coming out and I used to wear it in my early 20s. I still love the scent but it’s too girly and seeet for me - it doesn’t work on my skin somehow. It always reminded me of pink Refreshers. Lovely.

luckycat007 · 05/10/2018 00:51

45?

MissLadyM · 05/10/2018 01:00

Teens- Anaïs Anaïs, Poison
20s- Gio, Paloma Picasso, Amirage
30s- jp gaultier, PP, Chanel Coco
40s- PP, VW Boudoir, Black Orchid, Sahara Noir, Agent Provocateur original and occasionally no 5

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 05/10/2018 01:13

I'd have said early 40s.

I know it's for men, but Black XS is a wonderful scent. It's quite sweet and smells more feminine which is why I'm surprised it's a male aimed product.

Zoflorabore · 05/10/2018 04:03

Poeme by Lancôme is my favourite ever.
Came out in 95 when I was 17 so I've been wearing it for 23 years!

I love Chanel Allure, Angel and Alien too.
I love strong smells, don't tend to go for delicate floral types.

When I win the lottery I'm going to have a perfume room in my new mansion house.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 05/10/2018 06:06

Dowager, you can get Cabotine quite easily, and still pretty cheap. It has been reformulated on and off so if you want the original you're better off trying eBay.

Do come and join us on perfumistas all of you. We're ever so friendly and not at all perfume snobs! We like a bargainous bottle of Yardley as much as a Chanel exclusif!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 05/10/2018 06:55

35-43

That's interesting, I wouldn't. When I was younger I recall having a shelf full of perfumes, but always stuck to the one. I tend to stick to something for a number of years, then get a bit bored, and chose something else. I've never worn a different one every day sort of thing.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 05/10/2018 09:04

Anyone remember LouLou? I had a bottle of that in my teens. I think my sister passed it on to me. I thought it was the most glamorous thing ever!
Guerlain perfumes are amazing but I havnt found The One for me. I do wear L'instant when I'm feeling super girly. They can't put them all in the same bottle-that's madness!
You can get Poeme really cheap now. Might give it a try.

WindyWednesday · 05/10/2018 09:26

bluetrampolines

No I’m much younger than 48.

Clearly I need a younger perfume, I smell like an old lady. .

wishiwasacollie · 05/10/2018 09:27

KathDayKnight50 · 05/10/2018 09:31

There was a strange thread which Iirc was deleted a year or so back because of this, which rather made those of us on the perfumista threads chuckle as "old lady" is a compliment in our books, not an insult (old lady scent= almost always has a powdery element to it etc)

Yes, I do know what the young 'uns mean when they say that and I am not insulted by the slightest by it either, even though they would describe a lot of my favourites as "old lady" as I am a big fan of the powder note.

KathDayKnight50 · 05/10/2018 09:32

Used to marinate myself in that back in the day. Tried it in Boots the other day - vile! It has changed for sure. Fragrantica vouches for that too. Such a disappointment Sad

KathDayKnight50 · 05/10/2018 09:33

Anais Anais has changed too. So disappointing! Imagine doing that to malt whiskies. I understand some of the perfume ingredients have had to be banned, but it doesn't half mess with the classics.

KathDayKnight50 · 05/10/2018 09:34

I wanted to like Miracle but it's smells "dry" to me. I cannot explain myself well. I wonder what note is causing that?
