I'm trying Dior Joy at the moment. I think I like it enough to buy it. Hard because I think the sample she gave me was only half full Hmm so don't feel like I've been able to give it a proper go IYSWIM.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 04/10/2018 18:30

No, not that old. I think I was about 19 when I first had it. I actually hate the bottle but love the smell!

TheDowagerCuntess · 04/10/2018 18:32

Keep wearing it! It's lovely to have one special scent. But shop around and see what else you like.

I have one Guerlain scent that I've been wearing since my early 20s (not one of the usuals, and probably considered quite 'old lady' now, though it is floral rather than powdery, being named after a garden), but I love perfume, so always have several different ones on the go.

Issey miyake. How old am I?

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 04/10/2018 18:34

It's still quite unique as a smell. You don't smell it on many people any more but if someone walks by wearing it I know immediately what it is. My flatmate wore it in late 1996.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 04/10/2018 18:35

Which one? L'Eau?
You could be mid-forties, but like the CK One wearer, you;re very girl next door soap and water. So you probably look about 16

I like this game Grin

UserMillionBillion · 04/10/2018 18:35

I tried Dior JOy the other day. It's very boring. Doesn't have ''classic'' written all over it.

UserMillionBillion · 04/10/2018 18:38

talking of powdery smells, I love Eternity!! I don't really like chanel no 19.

What do the perfumistas make of that. I don't care if people think ''oh that perfume is not new''. Because if it's lasted 20 years then it's not terrible. I presume. It's not like wearing the same coat for 20 years.

WindyWednesday · 04/10/2018 18:39

Yes, l’eau.

Bit younger than you said, but not far off.

Don’t look 16 though. I wear too much of it to be able to smell it now.

pinkmagic1 · 04/10/2018 18:41

Miracle, I would say you are in your late 30's.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 04/10/2018 18:41

Perfumistas love vintage! I wear far more perfumes that are 20-30 yrs old than any other! Some of my favourites are Rive Gauche/Opium/Obsession/Ysatis/Givenchy III but the "old" versions of all of them.

Glowerglass · 04/10/2018 18:47

Love this!! I also have a soft spot for ck one but usually alternate between Armani acqua di gioia, moschino cheap and chic, Gucci flora and Versace Eros. I also love a cheap bergamot scent I got from m&s. How old am I?

Chanel no 5 limited rose edition - how old am I?

RosinaAlmaviva · 04/10/2018 19:46

I don't know when Miracle came out so wouldn't assume anything. However, the perfume which best dates me is Poeme, also by Lancôme, because I've been wearing it since it came out in 1995, during my college years.

My life in perfume looks something like this:
Teens: can't remember, but have a horrible feeling Charlie featured at some point.
20s: Poeme, also Chanel No.5 and Cartier So Pretty. Fragonard Belle de Nuit. Bvlgari BLV.
30s: more of the same, also Balmain Vent Vert and Fragonard Soleil.
40s: been looking for a new perfume for a while. I haven't had much luck with recent releases - Mon Guerlain and Dior Joy were both forgettable on me, and Dior Joy has a plasticy bottle. I like Caron Delire de Roses, but it's pricy. Anyway, finally found Cartier Baiser Vole which I love and am currently waiting on an order of the EDP.

I also tried Shalimar the other day. It was very spicy on me but I'd like it in my arsenal for a "date night" scent. Love the bottle.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 04/10/2018 19:52

Gonnabreak- oooh you're hard, the first two say you're late 40s early 50s and the second two say you're 17!

Alpha- mid 30s.

Fruit- no idea, but you smelled it when you were on a shopping spree in a big city and then somebody bought it for you.

Rosina- snap up one of those Shalimars in the fancy bottle while you can. Guerlain are apparently going to put all their perfumes into the same shape bottle. You've got a good nose- Joy and Mon Guerlain will never be classics, though are nice enough. (add the Chanel Chances and Gabrielle to that and you've got a list of perfumes the founding fathers (and mothers) of the houses would say "wtf is this?" to. Oh, and nothing wrong with Charlie- it's a classic (as is Panache and Tweed) Vent Vert is one of my desert island top 10s.

gonnabreakmyrustycage · 04/10/2018 20:16

@Bookmeonthesudexpress I’m astonished as the average of your guesses is my age exactly! I’m almost 34 :)

KeithLeMonde · 04/10/2018 20:20

I'm 43 and I bloody love Miracle. Not giving it up to wear a youngster's perfume so there Grin

ILikeyourHairyHands · 04/10/2018 20:30
