How many coats do you have for autumn /winter?

I like to have 4-5 as if I wear the same one daily I feel like people think I'm wearing the same thing as you can't see underneath.
What about you?
I'm looking for another as we speak

Burgundy cropped 100% wool teddybear (>20 years old but perfect at the moment)
Grey knee length 100% boiled wool funnel neck (8 years old, my most formal coat and superwarm due to partially felted wool)
Tweed jacket (~5 years old, didn't wear much last winter but beautifully cut and good quality British tweed so will keep until in fashion again)
Joules raincoat (3 years old, very practical)
Leather jacket (2 years old)

I'm eyeing up a khaki woollen wrap coat at the moment.

Babymamamama · 27/09/2018 13:05

I have lots. And I struggle to get rid of any as I like the variety. Some are charity shop finds. Others bought new. My go to for chilliest days is north face but on normal winter days I like a wool coat or anorak.

Lottapianos · 27/09/2018 13:06

I have three lighter ones for Autumn
Three down-filled longer coats of varying weights, all from Lands End
One slightly smarter coat for going out of an evening
I really need a smart wool coat - looking out for one

whereiscaroline · 27/09/2018 13:07

I counted the other day as it felt excessive.... nine! Struggling to part with any of them though. It's weird as all the rest of my clothes fit into 1/2 wardrobe and 2 drawers.

evilharpy · 27/09/2018 13:50

Loads. Far too many. Many are charity shop finds and many I’ve had for years. I love coats and can feel very glamorous with the right one! This winter I have:

Leopard Karen Millen coat
Camel coat from H&M
Next parka/mum coat
Two similar but different trenches from Zara
Grey smart wool coat from M&S
Terracotta wool hooded jacket from New Look
Green wool jacket from Hobbs
Bottle green corduroy trench from M&S
Black waterproof outdoorsy parka thing from North Face
Pink wool type coat from Tesco
Beige/brown wool coat from Warehouse
Brown wool jacket from Max Mara
Brown quilted Barbour jacket
Green quilted jacket from Joules
Bluey green tartan wool coat from A Wear
Grey Laura Ashley corduroy blazer
Brown vintage corduroy blazer
Brown leather jacket
Tan leather jacket
Black leather jacket

No doubt I’ve forgotten some! I just can’t seem to part with coats. I need to lose another stone and then hope to buy a lovely wool camel coat from somewhere like Hobbs to replace my old H&M one.

MirandaWest · 27/09/2018 13:52

I have one.

Suppose it would be nice to have a slightly smarter one as well, but the one I have is fine.

MaMisled · 27/09/2018 13:57

Too many! DDs old New Look parker, a mustard Regatta waterproof, a North Face padded coat, a cheap waxed jacket, a beautiful apple green wool jacket, a beautiful orange wool jacket, full length navy wool coat, a raincoat and a substantial pac a mac.

Good Lord! How ridiculous!

PhilomenaButterfly · 27/09/2018 13:58

One. I can't afford a coat, DM bought it for me last Christmas.

TomHardysNextWife · 27/09/2018 14:04

Far too many.... Jack Wolfskin softshell for dog walking, Joules wax jacket.. same. Regatta raincoat... same. Jaeger long cashmere grey coat - best only, had 20 years and still love it. Joules bodywarmer and Joules tweed jacket... tend to wear in the car. M & S dress coat in black wool that I bought for DDs wedding and still adore - feel very smart in it. Seasalt moleskin coat in a jadey green and fab floral lining... work coat. Trespass fleece jacket for autumn wear... not warm enough for winter but layers well under raincoat.

VioletWillow · 27/09/2018 14:06

I have a few... 3 biker jackets, brown, bottle green and grey suede, a nude pink short trench, and that's it unless you count my waterproof jacket for my bike... I have room for a couple more!

nickEcave · 27/09/2018 14:08

I started a thread on this last winter and we established there are quite a few coataholics on mumsnet Grin. Most of mine come from charity shops and currently consist of:

charcoal tweed mens coat (my favourite)
smart knee length camel wool coat
short camel wool swing coat
proper waterproof (ugly - mostly used for camping)
bright green wool parka style coat lined with shearling (for watching DCs playing sport in winter)
olive velvet double breasted jacket
red wool wrap jacket
denim jacket
2 jersey open fronted blazers in navy and grey
beige trench-style hip length coat (not properly waterproof so impractical)

I keep coats for years and most of them are from charity shops so rarely cost more than £30. The only problem is that my house lacks storage for them all!

kenandbarbie · 27/09/2018 14:33

That I actually wear? 2 a parka and a smart wool coat.

IntentsAndPorpoises · 27/09/2018 14:39

Two- a warm one and a waterproof one. Surely people don't think it's weird to West the same coat everyday?

One black winter coat, looking for a waterproof with a hood atm.
several fleecy things but only the one coat at present.

Gah81 · 27/09/2018 15:10

Love a good coat. They have the ability to entirely alter how I look and feel and, thanks to their sturdy structure and design, can do wonders for the figure and maintain interesting shapes.

  • All Saints black city coat
  • 50s leopard swing coat
  • Zara leopard long lightweight coat
  • soutache black princess coat (1940s)
  • deep blue 19 50s princess flared coat (the warmest thing I own)
  • Teal and black 50s princess flared coat
  • Sands and Hall brown belted cape
  • Green tweed riding jacket (Joules)
  • brown tweed zara blazer
  • Burberry trench
  • lightweight olive parka
  • Teal North Face jacket
  • Heather grey Reiss belted long coat
Gah81 · 27/09/2018 15:11

I have worn each of the above at least a few times over the last year. And I intend to continue doing so for many more to come!

JaceLancs · 27/09/2018 15:27

I’m a coataholic too
I have 4 jaeger wool coats which are identical style in red, grey, black and cobalt blue
Longer dress style navy jaeger coat
M & S wool check tweedy coat in shades of blue
3 vintage fake fur coats black grey and brown
3 leather jackets in grey navy and black
All saints black biker style jacket but in a very heavy cotton
Blue trench style mac
Black trench style mac both M n S
Grey parka with detachable fur from warehouse
Vintage blue velvet coat
I think that might be it - but am not at home to check and haven’t counted jackets or coatigans

JaceLancs · 27/09/2018 15:30

I’m currently eyeing up a teal jaeger coat in tkmaxx
I did have a lot more but due to weight loss have sold them on eBay
Some I’ve had for years pre children even - so nearly 30 years, but if they are a plain classic style why not

AnnabelleLecter · 27/09/2018 15:36

Dark grey faux fur jacket
Red velvet coat
Leather bikers in black and brown
Navy Mac
Pink wool coat
Khaki army style jacket
Silver grey Puffa coat
Parka

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 27/09/2018 15:39

Not worried about wearing the same one but have a few options to go with the weather:
Burberry Trench
Navy Quilted Barbour
Short black wool coat from Zara
Mid length grey ‘wool’ pea coat from Topshop
Columbia ski jacket in a rather bright purple
Black Canada goose parka

I also have leather jackets, a denim jacket and loads of blazers since I wear them to work but I wouldn’t count any of them as coats. Also there are far too many to list!

Seniorschoolmum · 27/09/2018 15:42

Ankle length for pounding rain, tidy work Mac, short warm wool coat, red waterproof thing for school run/weekend stuff, ski jacket.

TakeMe2Insanity · 27/09/2018 15:50

Ok seeing everyone else’s coat collection has made me feel so much better!

  • camel pea coat (thigh) m and s from when I was 25 (currently in 40s) has aged very well
  • black funnel neck coat next for meetings
  • brown tweed zara short coat (circa 2006)
  • mango black long puffa style with hood
  • deep purple phase eight short puffa
  • esprit navy puffa with hood (circa 2006)
  • pink tweed boden coat
  • short navy wax jacket with lining boden

This is a great mental audit!

TakeMe2Insanity · 27/09/2018 15:51

And a massive sailors and pearls heavy duty long coat

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 27/09/2018 15:54

For autumn and winter:
Navy pea short coat in wool Jil Sander x Uniqlo
Zebra print jacket in some horror poly fabric but somehow manages to be warm & Other Stories
Brown wool and cashmere mid coat Jaeger
Bright blue wool coat Toast
Black puffer duvet thing New Look
Black cashmere cocoon coat Kenzo that’s so battered it only gets worn in the garden

Plus I have a denim jacket and a trench coat both from APC and a black car coat from Toast that see me through spring and summer.
