Bootcut jeans acceptable again?

BurningTheToast · 21/09/2018 12:08

I used to love my bootcut jeans - I'm not especially tall and I'm a woman of "traditional" build and in my bootcuts, I felt tall and leggy for the first - and probably only - time.

Now, I have my straight leg Levi's (not even going near a skinny jean) but I do hanker and it seems they're coming back - Levi's, Boden, 7 For All Mankind all have bootcut jeans in this autumn's ranges.

What do you think? Too soon? Or should I snatch up a pair and celebrate?

In one word: no

BadderWolf · 21/09/2018 12:15

In 2 words: also no

MadisonAvenue · 21/09/2018 12:17

Haven't looked at jeans but I noticed plenty of boot cut trousers in the Autumn ranges when I was shopping earlier this week.

Hedgehogblues · 21/09/2018 12:17

I never stopped wearing them. I love them, I don't care if they are acceptable or not

Mumof1andacat · 21/09/2018 12:19

Never stopped wearing them. Always been able to buy them in asda, matalan, next and m&s

Thebluedog · 21/09/2018 12:19

I still wear them, love them I fact... I’m also a short arse who has finally found something that makes me feel tall and leggy Grin I’m also 45 which means I can prob get away with wearing them. Could depend on your age I guess?

Sycamoretrees · 21/09/2018 12:20

If you look good in them, they make you feel good, and they're available in the shops, why wouldn't you wear them?!

GraceMarks · 21/09/2018 12:22

You won't look remotely trendy but I agree with you that they're much more flattering than skinnies for ladies of a certain shape. If you like them, get them - all trouser shapes come and go over the years, and skinnies won't be fashionable forever, whatever some people seem to think.

RoseDog · 21/09/2018 12:26

Another one that didn't give them up, I have skinnies and jeggings but I am most comfy in bootcuts, I'm wearing a Next pair today!!

SilverHairedCat · 21/09/2018 12:28

Never stopped wearing them my

thedevilinablackdress · 21/09/2018 12:29

They are back in for the youths in a retro way. Often worn cropped.
However
If you like them and they make you feel good, take advantage of the availability and wear the hell out of them!

SnuggyBuggy · 21/09/2018 12:33

They're the only style that suit me and I gave up on fashion about 5 years ago. I'm almost looking forward to becoming frumpy.

hammeringinmyhead · 21/09/2018 12:47

I think it depends how you wear them. If flapping around your ankles over actual boots or with sensible shoes and a fleece, no. If worn with some trainers or flats, maybe.

These model shots are a good example.

A lot of women wear them too short with heels, as with the tan boots, but they look fine with the flat shoes.

hammeringinmyhead · 21/09/2018 12:48

Gah, why didn't that work? If you search for Betty on the site, I mean those!

strawberrypenguin · 21/09/2018 12:53

I always buy bootcut jeans. I find them the most comfortable. Wear what you like - does anyone really judge others on what cut of jeans they wear?

Elledorado · 21/09/2018 13:01

strawberrypenguin I wouldn't judge you as a person, but I would judge your fashion sense or sense of style, yes Grin sorry!

TheLastNigel · 21/09/2018 13:10

They've allegedly been coming back for the last few years according to fashion magazines etc. But it hasn't translated to real life yet. I wish it bloody well would.

AlphaJuno · 21/09/2018 13:15

@thelastnigel this is true. They've been 'coming back' for so long they almost should be going out again but most people have been sticking to skinnies irl. Have to admit that skinnies don't suit everyone. Bootcut can be quite flattering. I like to go one step further and wear a flare sometimes (long with a wedge heel). They are supposed to be coming back too but you hardly ever see them.

whatmakesitwork · 21/09/2018 13:18

I’ve been hunting for a decent pair for ages, I’ve searched shops/online/selling websites etc... Literally can’t seem to find any, I love them!

I would love some kick flair ones too!

BurningTheToast · 21/09/2018 13:42

Well there you go, Nigel, Alpha and WhatMakesItWork - we need to buy some and wear them proudly, confident that we are fashion forward for once!

It does surprise me that some people are so militantly judgemental about bootcuts. I'd love to see how they look in their skinnies - they're not as universally flattering as people think.

I used to love bootleg jeans. Would love to buy another pair but DP makes this face Hmm and it puts me off Grin

Kochicoo · 21/09/2018 13:49

Zara have several flared and kick-flare trousers/jeans this season so I usually think if it's in Zara, it's OK!

liquidrevolution · 21/09/2018 13:53

I've never stopped wearing them. Got them on today as it happens.

Annoyingly Sainsbury's TU have stopped doing them this year. But will try Next ones.

chapthedoor · 21/09/2018 13:56

I think they are amongst the late teens/early twenties group. I've seen lots of them around and also stretchy bootcut trousers (I live in a major city with lots of students) that or looser straight leg jeans/trousers.

I feel like skinny jeans are starting to look dated now, especially in a dark wash. In a couple of years they'll be finished.

Topshop have flare jeans so they're officially in - go for it

TheLastNigel · 21/09/2018 13:59

You are probably right.
Im under no illusion that I look better in skinnies than boot cuts. Bootcuts suited me down to the ground. I am however also a massive sheep Blush
