Who are your style icons? Who are not??

I don’t have many but I love the way Gemma Arterton presents herself. She has got a fabulous figure which helps, but she knows how to show it off in a stylish way.

As an older woman I think Joanna Lumley dresses well. I like the way she moves in clothes, the way she accessorises, she has a bit of swagger. You can tell she used to model, she can still sell the clothes by the way she holds herself and by the way she moves.

I can’t think of any stylish men.....

I don’t think the Mark Wrights of this world have great style. All seems a bit tight (parsnip legs, tight sleeves). Not the TOWIE look, or the Kardashians.

I like some of her designs don’t like the way that she wears them. The whole outfit put together is too contrived and identikit. I feel she’s just too trussed up and not relaxed. I have a few of her dresses which I’ve worn for weddings and formal events or occasionally for work when I need to be smart. The tailoring and fit is very good.

@TeaAddict235 haha.

I looked at all the responses and I'm like - I really CANNOT BE ARSED polishing myself like that every day unless I need to be presentable for something. Yes I am a clean person and shower every day etc, but all that effort for it to be mangled as fuck at the end of the day? Nah. TRASHHEAP4LYFE.

Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine
Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth
Jackie Onassis in the late 60s - early 70s
Pattie Boyd, Anita Pallenberg and Marianne Faithful in the 60's
Kate Moss

NOT - Krapdashians (all of them). Too try hard. Make expensive stuff look cheap.
Anyone from a reality show in fact.

BusterGonad · 20/11/2018 10:35

I'd love to look polished everyday, I just don't manage it!

CrazySheepLady · 20/11/2018 10:45

I admire Karren Brady, the Duchess of Sussex, Jennifer Aniston and Princess Grace of Monaco. I guess im not at all edgy and that's reflected in those whose style I like.

SilentIsla · 20/11/2018 12:04

Alexa Chung.

DavetheCat2001 · 20/11/2018 12:42

Siobbhan Fahey always looks amazing

Delatron · 20/11/2018 13:29

Also loved Sharon Horgan’s wardrobe in Catastrophe.

Also;
Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker and Alexa Chung.

I think Angelina Jolie dresses terribly with her head to toe black ensembles. So boring. She is never very casual either.

Jennifer Anniston also a bit dull with her outfits. She sticks to neutrals too much.

BusterGonad · 21/11/2018 05:28

Crazy I also like the duchess of Sussex clothes, I don't really understand why she gets so much stick for her outfits, in my mind she dresses well and her choices are fashionable yet modest. I prefer her clothes to Kate, I thinks Kate's are a bit stuffy and older than her years. I'm not saying Kate doesn't dress well but with her figure and face I think she could be a bit more risky iyswim!

madnessIsay · 21/11/2018 06:52

My number 1 is Kate Moss, I love her style mainly because it’s generally practical & effortless, I like that she wears the same pairs of boots, etc. I saw recent pictures of her in pink jumpers & Ive been searching for similar, she’s the only celeb that makes me buy what she wears be it a pair of shoes, a Longchamp bag or a skinny jeans.

I think pre divorce Angelina Jolie had the best red carpet style. Perfect combo of sexiness & elegance.

Don’t like VB, too contrived & unnatural. Kate Middleton, dull & aging, Megan dresses much more like my friends. Holly Willoughby find her overated, she just dresses like that girl from accounts with a bigger budget.

Helena Bonham Carter
Gudrun sjoden
IVY arch blogger

I like a bonkers art teacher vibe and people who make their own clothes.

Dislike- formal/Corporate Office wear.

I have tried that minimalist , pared down thing and it isn’t me so I am going to embrace the kook and wear what makes me feel happy.

Love this sort of thing...

Well that may not be my thing but I salute your commitment!

The grey haired woman in the pink is beautiful.

I think I may have already posted but I veer between this...

Sorry the Grace Kelly pic is so dark, it was the best I could find. I love the moment when she takes the jacket off (also dark).

I love clothes, know what suits me and what looks current. I just don’t have the budget (or shopping time) to manage it all the time. If I had the clothes budget of a celeb I would look amazing! My body is far from perfect but I can dress to flatter it - I am always confused that with their money, bodies and looks some celebs can get it so wrong.

BusterGonad · 21/11/2018 08:35

Mad I know what you are saying about Kate Moss, she loves those strappy dolly shoes! I love her leopard print fur coat too! She looks like no effort is made, whereas Alexa Chung looks as if she's really made an effort! Of course I'm probably totally wrong! Grin

frugalkitty · 21/11/2018 08:47

Grace Kelly is my number one, closely followed by Olivia Pope in Scandal. Sadly, I don't have the figure (or income!) to dress how I'd like to......Grin

madnessIsay · 21/11/2018 09:09

BusterGonad Exactly! She’s worn her Alaia boots to death. It makes her so much more relatable then someone who wears new head to toe each time.

madnessIsay · 21/11/2018 09:10

I bought those Repetto dolly shoes & they are comfy & Ive worn them loads.

Delatron · 21/11/2018 09:57

Agree Angelina Jolie had some good red carpet looks. Her day to day style is very dull though. So much black.

HotSauceCommittee · 21/11/2018 10:08

Claudia Winkleman, Kim Gordon, anyone who has a bit of a rock chick vibe going on.
Fictional, I second Morticia and Wednesday and I also liked Anna Friel’s look when she played “Marcella”.
More realistically, I have found myself liking Mary’s look on Gogglebox: older woman, low maintenance, prints and colours and exciting tights. Anyone else or am I just weird?

Amortentia · 21/11/2018 10:13

I love Gemma Arterton and Jennifer Anniston too, I think it’s because they look comfortable in what they are wearing.

I can’t stand VB for many reasons but I think she looks so uncomfortable and like she’s trying too hard, maybe it’s the ridiculous heels she often wears. But, I’m not a lover of high fashion and am mystified by those who chose fashion over comfort or if the clothes actually look flattering on.

JaneJeffer · 21/11/2018 10:49

I much prefer women who wear the same clothes but mix them up in a different way rather than someone like Olivia Palermo who seems to have a brand new outfit every time.

What do they do with all those clothes afterwards? Are they just borrowed for the photo op?
