Who are your style icons? Who are not??

I don’t have many but I love the way Gemma Arterton presents herself. She has got a fabulous figure which helps, but she knows how to show it off in a stylish way.

As an older woman I think Joanna Lumley dresses well. I like the way she moves in clothes, the way she accessorises, she has a bit of swagger. You can tell she used to model, she can still sell the clothes by the way she holds herself and by the way she moves.

I can’t think of any stylish men.....

I don’t think the Mark Wrights of this world have great style. All seems a bit tight (parsnip legs, tight sleeves). Not the TOWIE look, or the Kardashians.

Oh I love Tilda Swinton too - for some reason I can never remember her name.

AnythingButMagnolia · 19/09/2018 00:12

Jane Birkin
Charlotte Rampling

JaneJeffer · 19/09/2018 00:22

Conseula Blocker
Garance Dore

They both look so happy as well as stylish.

JaneJeffer · 19/09/2018 00:27

I forgot the who are not part. Any of those Advanced Style women who wear all their costume jewellery at once and very bright colours mixed together.

GingerLDN · 19/09/2018 03:05

Emma Willis, Jessica Alba, Sam Chapman, Julianne Hough, Olivia Wilde, Kate Moss, Rosie Huntington-Whitely. All of them for their off duty looks. Casual with some tailoring, not too flashy.

SusieQ5604 · 19/09/2018 03:28

Helen Mirren. Also for men what about Idris Elba???

BradleyPooper · 19/09/2018 03:50

Gwen Stefani.... well groomed and edgy.

BusterGonad · 19/09/2018 04:13

Helena Christensen for everything, face, figure, clothes and choice in men! Grin

BusterGonad · 19/09/2018 04:15

Non style icons would be the reality tv lot, Kardashians, TOWIE, trashy Love Island lot. I can't stand the fake boobs, lips, lashes, nails. Fake nails make me feel sick and trout pouts make me laugh!

quirkychick · 19/09/2018 09:43

This is a great thread. I've just looked up Gemma Arterton and Garance Dore, both of whom I've heard of but not really registered their style. I agree they both look fab. I like the casual with a bit of tailoring and artfully dishevelled too Smile.

I'm not sure, on the who is not, as I probably don't take much notice of those. I don't like the heavy makeup contour look, it certainly doesn't translate into an everyday daylight look well.

Giggorata · 19/09/2018 10:34

Judi Dench, Iris Apfel and yes, Helena Bonham Carter, on a good day.

apairofblueeyes100 · 19/09/2018 10:55

I love Giovanna Battaglia's style!

teta · 19/09/2018 11:30

Jennifer Ariston because she dresses unfussily and always looks comfortable in her own skin. As do Helen Mirren and Judi Dench. I also think Yolanda Hadid dresses well ( better than her daughters) and really really want her hair. Christie Brinkley is totally ageless and always looks amazing.
I can’t stand Holly Willoughby and really don’t like the way she dresses and it’s really put me off buying M&S clothes.

BrisaOtonal · 19/09/2018 11:38

I've always loved looking at pictures of Elle McPherson in the news just doing her thing picking up her children from school. She is in her late 40's and just looks so cool. I've always imagined myself being that cool at the school gate and failing miserably Envy

JaneJeffer · 19/09/2018 11:39

Elle McPherson's legs are probably the length of my whole body Grin

HildaZelda · 19/09/2018 13:22

Kate Moss. Always. I think she never gets it wrong.
I like Kylie too. Minogue not Kardashian!

nickEcave · 19/09/2018 14:08

I adore Tilda Swinton but since I'm under 5 foot with big boobs I don't think I'll be emulating her style any time soon! Big fan of Helena Bonham Carter although sometimes she just wears too many clothes. Favourite stylish male, Nick Cave (surprise, surprise).

TheTeaFairy · 19/09/2018 19:21

I used to love the way Carolyn Bessette Kennedy dressed. Bet she'd be super stylish if she was still with us Thanks

DeltaG · 19/09/2018 19:52

I like Nicole Ritchie's style. Pretty edgy and big sunglasses with everything.

Dislike the prim and proper look and I also find Kelly Brook to have horrendous taste in clothes.

AWafferthinmint · 19/09/2018 20:19

I've just spent 20 minutes googling Gemma Arterton. Her recent style is amazing, I suppose it helps that she is absolutely stunning!

BlancheM · 19/09/2018 20:27

Caroline De Maigret is the queen followed by Emmanuelle Alt, Chloe Sevigny, Clémence Poesy, Jane Birkin, Kate Moss

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 19/09/2018 23:49

Elle McPherson is 54 not in her late 40’s she looks amazing but I personally don’t find her particularly stylish. Love Sarah-Jessica Parker, her style is just effortless it just comes naturally she would look stylish in a bin bag in my opinion.

KnitFastDieWarm · 20/09/2018 00:06

Debbie Harry
Katharine Hepburn
Patti Smith
James Dean
David Bowie
My style is lightly androgynous 80s throwback, basically Grin

Not a fan of the artfully dishevelled look as it really doesn’t suit me. Not keen on anything selfconciously cool, whether artfully underdone or artfully overdone.

WilburIsSomePig · 20/09/2018 05:11

Cate Blanchett. Absolutely the epitome of style IMO.

BrisaOtonal · 20/09/2018 06:58

I think SJP was styled by a team of people during SITC and after that has had to keep up that image with a team of people helping her. I remember her from B movies in the 80's and she actually looked quite a state.
