Fashion expressions that annoy you

Does anyone have any phrases that make them twitch?

Mine is people saying they were diagnosed or self-diagnosed as a season. You don't have an illness or a problem. Colours are analysed or you can be draped as a season.

I'll ready the biscuits

The one that's creeping in is pants (the American term for trousers) eg harem pants.

MaisyPops · 16/09/2018 22:02

Look what happens when you string them all together:

As in Sarah's curated the perfect day to night style using pieces from her 2018 capsule wardrobe. Teaming a cigarette pant with a vintage 90s blouse, Sarah adds a pop of colour through a rouge scarf and bold lip. She's channelling a nod to 50s retro with a cat flick smokey eye for that wow factor.

A tee

Bloggers also "grab" or "pop on"

People who describe their clothes as "pieces" and as for "investment pieces" clothes are rarely an investment, value for money maybe but get real.

foxtiger · 05/10/2018 18:52

I think this one might be mainly American, but tall boots instead of long boots. Boots aren't people!

HarrySnotter · 05/10/2018 19:46

As others have said, when people refer to the singular.

I was trying shoes on recently and had opaque tights on - the sales assistant told me they would 'best suit a nude tight'. What a load of shit.

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2018 19:48

Curated. Edit. Pop of colour.
Crisp white shirt - yeah, pair it with smart black skirt or trousers to look like a waitress.
A smoky eye.

hammeringinmyhead · 05/10/2018 19:51

Ahem. Trousers are pants in West Yorkshire, it's not American!

Sequins and sequences being mixed up. Angry I hear it all the tine.

MazDazzle · 05/10/2018 19:54

That reminds me, since when did ‘smokey eyes’ become ‘smokes’? As in ‘grey smokes’ or ‘classic smokes’. Smokes is not a noun!

NonaGrey · 05/10/2018 19:57

Maisy you are clearly a buzz word bingo champion! Grin

Sitranced · 05/10/2018 20:16

This one mostly features in YouTube tutorials but "and then I'm going to go in with a ...."

fruityb · 05/10/2018 20:17

Calling clothes “pieces”. I hate it.

“A nude lip” - Just one?
Pop of colour - hate

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2018 20:19

Also applies to food - inability to differentiate between pallet, palette and palate.

nosleepnosense · 05/10/2018 21:13

@user1494055864 the dusty/dusky pink thing has been bothering me for YEARS!

I'll add: 'shop the edit'

Fuck off, you mean 'buy things'

visitorthedog · 05/10/2018 21:17

’nod to’, ‘channelling’, ‘obsessed’, ‘can’t live without’

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 05/10/2018 21:20

Piece

`This is a beautiful piece ' talking about a shirt or whatever

Gimme a break

Amortentia · 05/10/2018 21:24

‘Edgy’ fuck of to the far side of fuck with your edgy look.

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 05/10/2018 21:36

ALL of the above 😂😂😂

And having done 24 years in fashion buying the names of the colours in a colour palette are just massively overthought and over pretentious.

"Ashes of Roses" was my pet hate for a year. Hmm

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 05/10/2018 21:38

And I can't see it mentioned but it probably was...someone "rocking" an outfit.

She totally rocks those nude patent frou frou heels.

I blame Grazia for all of it. None of my buyers spoke like this before bloody Grazia.....

DandelionsAreNotLions · 05/10/2018 21:44

my all time not favourite is
" We'll all be teaming a sequin with a trouser this season"

We? Teaming? This season? A trouser? Fuck off with your "sequin" one singular fucking sequin??

LunaTheCat · 05/10/2018 21:46

“Capsule wardrobe” .. boarding wardrobe
“Curated” when you’re talking about clothes and not The Louvre

LunaTheCat · 05/10/2018 21:47

Oops boaring not boarding..

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 05/10/2018 21:59

@DandelionsAreNotLions yes just the one, you have to choose which nipple to stick it on. Grin
