Had enough of seeing something repeated ad nauseam?

Want to offload when having tried to find good quality, stylish clothes you are instead met with a sea of shit? Epically garish, cheaply manufactured (without the corresponding price tag) and downright tired apply here.

I may be alone in having this need, but may I start by offering..... the rainbow jumper. How to take a perfectly useable piece of cloth and curse it to landfill in nanoseconds.....

I don't mind a rainbow jumper
Cold shoulder tops
Big flappy sleeves
Furry slides
Vintage stuff - though this might just be in my social circle, everyone is wearing vintage 70/80s stuff. I hate it all.

Clashing prints and colours, though maybe because I can't do it without looking like a clown

I've mixed feelings on ripped jeans. Yes they look terrible, but when I was a teen they were quite fashionable and I was delighted when I wore through the knees on mine (I hid them from my mum so she wouldn't throw them out)

Miladymilord · 14/09/2018 09:59

Love vintage
Love clashing prints
Love leapoerd print
Love sliders
Love rainbow print jimoers

Actually, seriously though, the point is that stuff is so ubiquitous it is mainstream.

Lol at Parisian! Give me a woman in a pinny and a rainbow jumper over a humourless bint in a beige mac any day!

I wear a beige mac and am anything buy humouless. of course, I don't expect my clothes to make me look anyway, I'm not Timmy Mallett.

Miladymilord · 14/09/2018 10:06

Oh cool is there another thread?

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 14/09/2018 10:09

Agreed wearing ‘fun’ clothes doesn’t make you comedic.

—only in the sense of observational comedy—

Great thread OP. Many times I've been under pressure to buy something new for an event and come away with something, well, just odd in polyester due to the lack of 'real' clothes.

I do have to admit to owning a cold shoulder top. It covers the bingo wings you see.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 14/09/2018 10:14

FUN

So many manufacturers skimp on sleeve length that three-quarter sleeves are an absolute necessity if you've got long limbs.

Bloobs · 14/09/2018 10:26

Oh no the fabulous Su Pollard must be excused! She's committed to her style and that's her thing. I think that's completely different from twee fashion trends where everyone is wearing tops with the shoulders cut out / pictures of puppies because it's the in look.

Elledorado · 14/09/2018 10:30

Yes I think we have to distinguish between ubiquitous crappy-looking over-done fashion trends (platform sneakers, cold shoulders, wrap-fucking-dresses) and ppl having their own sense of style (even if it might not be your own taste).

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 14/09/2018 10:48

Yeah fair enough. It was the slippery path was the point I failed to make 🙂

VanGoghsDog · 14/09/2018 10:54

I don't mind a naff Christmas top, that's the point of them, but I'd not wear one that said 'festive bird' on it. Even if it depicted a full roast turkey!

XXcstatic · 14/09/2018 11:49

If you like rainbows/ dog jumpers/ glittery shite then knock yourself out. The point is the British high street and online traders seem to be designing exclusively for this taste. It’s not mine and I feel we could do with some viable alternatives.

I don't know whose taste it is. Apart from cold-shoulder tops and ripped jeans, most of the trends mentioned in this thread have been all over shops/websites for several years, yet I hardly ever see anyone wearing them IRL thank fuck. Fashion writers have been trying to sell us leopard print as 'the new neutral' Hmm for at least 12 months, for example, yet no one's buying it - literally. So why do stores keep commissioning these trends and filling their shelves with the resulting monstrosities? I get it for niche shops like Toast - there will probably always be a (small) market for well-made but over-priced shapeless boho inspired by asking, "Siri, how can I repel unwanted male attention?" Wink. But why do mass retailers like M&S, Zara etc keep pushing the same, unwanted trends? It's like they have all taken a bet on the most hideous trend they can persuade the public to buy.

Cocolepew · 14/09/2018 13:00

I saw heelless ( is that even a word?) boots today Confused
During the summer I was behind a woman in cut off denim shorts. She had one long thread on them and it looked like her tampon string was hanging down.

championquartz · 14/09/2018 13:11

This isn't fashionable but I very regularly see them recommended and linked here and they don't seem to be going away. Those 50s dresses. With the huge skirts. Gopping.

claptomania · 14/09/2018 13:21

Ooh I’ve got one.

T-shirts, with little shallow pockets over the boob area. Pockets that gape open due to curvature of boob area. They look genital.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 14/09/2018 13:25

Good point re overdone leopard print. SAme for zebra. Most heinous though are the polyester dresses in animal prints with flounces and possibly a fluted sleeve that are EVERYWHERE.

Can I also suggest there is a surplus of cowboy wear as this wanky trend is being pushed again....

Has anyone ever seen anyone dressed in this shower of shite?

What a cathartic thread.

Frills and ruffles in anything....why was there such a thing for Bell sleeves and ruffles on everything last year? Really irritating.

Cold shoulder tops look cheap on most people (am obviously a snob and didn’t know it).

Yes to whoever said leggings made from material which goes see through . Hideous and I adore leggings for housework and simple days to day stuff.

Sparkles, unicorns, glitter......belong on socks and nowhere else. Actually keep glitter out of socks as that sounds scratchy,

Octavella · 14/09/2018 13:44

Walked into sainsbury a while ago and full of bell sleeves, tassles or pom poms on jumpers and zips on things.

Fed up with the same canvas shoes. We need a new brand. I got some from France to be a bit different. Yes a bit try hard.

Button back tops.
